Finished our Island Hopping in Thailand for now. Absolutely loving this amazing beauty and culture!

UPDATE:

We loved our sailing adventure so much that we want to continue to sail and explore more of this beautiful planet!!!

We're in Krabi Thailand getting our next round of refit work started on Pegasus (to ensure she is "ocean crossing" ready).

It was too rushed to join this years April "Discover Malaysia Rally" (East Coast of Malaysia/Indonesia with Navy Escort ) but that is our next planned leg of our sailing adventure for next year (so Dennis just might get his wish to experience a true Canadian winter!)

We'll take a side trip to Bangkok next week before I start my trip home. Dennis will stay back to get Pegasus tucked back in in Pangkor Marina Malaysia, he'll head home to Australia to spend time with his 1st Grandchild Paddy (short for Patrick, a real cutie petutie gem he is!) and to tend to his personal affairs and then he'll join me in Canada.

Looking forward to spending time with my kiddies, family and friends. xo

I'm so very grateful for all that life has to offer : )

Depart Royal Phuket Marina

Phuket was nice however we found it to be too busy and commercialized. Those darn tourists lol.

Probably one of my highlights was seeing all the hussle and bussle on the already busy streets when school got out. The younger ones got picked up by their parents or older siblings and you would often see 3 4 or 5 on one motor bike. (It kept bringing me back to the Bernstein Bears' books I read as a child). : ) The older, more privileged students hopped on their own motorbikes and could be seen stopping at their favorite hang out spots for street food snacks and ice cream and laughter with friends.

It amazes me how comfortable they all are zipping in and out of crazy busy traffic. It must have something to do with them practically being born on a motorcycle. It's quite normal to see infants cradled in with their parents or toddlers sitting freely at the front of the bike enjoying the wind in their face at high speeds. It kinda makes me go yikes a whole heck of a lot! You think they're going to fall off but they know exactly what they're doing and have a certain look of pleasurable normality about them. It just all works, and it's beautiful (and scary) to watch.

Anywho.... we once again could not get out of the marina quick enough. We prefer the cool sea breeze on our faces and waking up to birds singing with beautiful island cliffs surrounding us. (I actually don't sleep as well in the marinas and I realized it's because the boat is too still) : ) : )

Our next set of Islands to explore are in the Ao Phang-Nga region further north of Phuket. These islands, we have read and have been told are homes to the most beautiful hongs (rooms/caves). We're also looking forward to seeing the famous "James Bond" Island. Maybe we'll do donuts around it with our super duper 4hp motor dingy!!! : )

We plan to spend a week or so in the Ro Phang-Nga area before we head south-east to the Islands in the Krabi region.

In the picture below, the blue dot is where we are (1:30pm ish) and we are heading further north and should arrive at Koh Phanak around dinner time.

Hugs to all and we hope everyone is well,

Bye for now,

Lisa and Captain Denno

GPS: 7 57.995N 98 23.476E
Run: 119.9nm (217km)
Weather: Beautiful Sunny skies, 30 degrees

We've been busy Island hopping to remote islands with no internet connection so some places will not be registered on our sailing map (We prefer those untouched islands as opposed to the busy touristy spots).

We left Koh Lipe (where we were able to check into Thailand immigration and therefore no rush to get to Phuket to check in). We visted the following amazing islands along the way to Phuket (where we are now. The Royal Phuket Marina will be home for the next 3 or 4 days)

KOH ROK NOK And KOH ROK NAI

Great anchorage, nestled between two small islands. Koh Rok Nok home to the wooden shrine of wooden sculpted penii yes a bunch of colourful wooden penises .... it's suppose to bring the fisher"men" luck!!

Koh Rok Nai had a most facinating provincial park for us to explore.

KOH HA YAI (Ha meaning 5)

5 small deep cliffed islands with amazing snorkling and a floating island that we were able to swim under because the tied was just right!

PHI PHI ISLANDS - KOH PHI PHI LE - MAYA BAY

This is where the movie "The Beach" was filmed .

WOW!!! Once all the tourists left we went in to explore it's beauty. A great adventure as we didn't know where we were going as all the guides had left with the tourists. Only a few live-in staff remained but we had to resort to a game of charades as their english was "0". It made it all the more mysterious and intriguing as we walked through the jungle only to stumble into a hidden cave area with a man living in a hole in the cliff. (Pics to be posted on my facebook)

KOH RANG YAI

More picturesque on the west side. We took shelter and anchored for the night so that we could enter the very long shallow channel into the Royal Phuket Marina on the absolutely highest tide possible.

We're here at the Royal Phuket Marina for the next 3 or 4 days to provision, wash down the girl and little miss dingy and to also check out tradesmen' s prices for our second round of refit to take place in April.

Apologies for any typos, this auto correct has a mind of its own and I don't have the patience that I used to (or my level of perfectionism has greatly lessened, which is not a bad thing lol)

I'll do some more posting of videos and pics on my Facebook over the next couple of days.

We will continue to explore the surrounding islands and look to head to Ko Lipe, Thailand early to mid next week!

Lol and .....oh yes..... this App is synced to my phone GPS And NOT our boat AIS so if you see Pegasus on land ....... chances are it's us inland exploring not Pegasus running aground at the local bars lol!

We've been enjoying some beautiful sunsets and Duty Free !!

Den is taking his Kidney stone meds and since the doctor said way more fluids he's taking full advantage of those Duty Free Beverages!!

Some great news updates ....

1- The electrician has a handle on our battery charging issues so all looks good!

2- Our Diving equipment got serviced with a clean bill of health. They'll be ready for pickup in a couple of days with 3 tanks of new air. We also ordered 10 metres of new diving hose so we can dive from the boat or dingy. : )

3- Speaking of good health...Den has had no more kidney stone pain episodes (it must be due to his intake of fluids! ) : )

We'll hang out here for another couple of days then head to an anchorage in Telaga where we'll test our battery charging system and take in some touristy sights.

And then it's setting our sails for Ko Lipe Thailand!!

WED JAN 24th 6pm - Departed Straits Quay Marina on high tide (Marina channel is quite shallow.)

Getting out of the Marina with some daylight along with a high tide meant coming out just before dusk, we anchored for the night just outside of the marina and that allowed us to be on our way at dawn. A typical daily squall set in just as we anchored so we had heaps of rocking and rolling!! It was a great opportunity to ensure all was "sea worthy secured" (especially our new microwave lol which I grabbed just in the nick of time!!!) Did I mention that the next couple of months was to get to know how Pegasus rolls..... (literally lol).

Anywho .... the next couple of months is about getting to know our girl and how she handles ...its about Dennis and I finding our groove and running our girl smoothly with as little stress as possible. A calm, boat is a happy peacefull boat : )

The electrical issue is somewhat solved. We had a local electrician check out our charging system only to find that the polarity wires were hooked up backwards! We can now get a charge from our motor. (It's a slow charge but we can work with that and look at it more closely when we reach Langkawi.) So back on the water we go...Woohoo!

THU JAN 25th - Up at the crack of dawn and on our way north to Langkawi (most northern duty free port of Malaysia)

Heaps more fishing nets to dodge but they seemed to be well marked.......we took it slow and there were no dramas. Just another typical Malaysian sail : )

THU JAN 25th 5pm - A breathtaking approach to our anchorage surrounded by the emerald green waters and mini islands with lush green trees and amazingly shaped cliffs!

If that wasn't enough, just as I plunged into the emerald water and just seconds after Mike joked about a fin coming towards me and me replying "that's fine as long as they are dolphins" .....doesn't a beautiful pod of dolphins so gracefully swim by...we were all in awe as we were entertained by more than one group of these amazing mammals.

I was in my element and so very grateful for this natural beauty around us.

It was a calm warm night with little breeze and we all retired early. We were all fast asleep when we had our first medical incident. Dennis woke up in excruciating pain to the point of vomiting. He thought he may have been passing a kidney stone! Thanks to Brenda's well stocked hydromorphone he ended up getting some much needed relief and sleep.

FRI JAN 26th - Happy Australian day!!

It was a relaxing day, Dennis caught up on some sleep and the rest of us kicked back to read, swim and relax in the hammock. Dennis was fine all day however had another episode of pain after dinner. We didnt wait for the pain to climb over 10 to give him more drugs. He ended up having a restfull night. Tomorrow We'll be heading to Langkawi to get some more electrical advice and to get Dennis checked out at the hospital.

Internet connection is hard to come by when we're in remote areas so please don't be alarmed if we are unplugged for days. : )

Daily squalls and fishing nets are very typical here and providing you're not in a hurry and you take all precautions, there is no reason for alarm. We are at our happiest when we're on the water, and at the end of the day when you're lying on the bow listening to the water, the wind and the sweet chime of the birds and halyards, that to us........ is our entertainment and music to our ears. : )
