I think Sunday was the most epic day of surf I have ever witnessed. We rolled out to Dumbea pass accompanied by Sharpe and Margie on Wanderer at about 0530 in the morning and anchored up behind the barrier reef. After dropping the dingy in the water we shot out to the right hander which looked really good but on closer inspection was a little bumpy. Deciding to check the left on the other side of the pass was by far the right call. The wave was a flawless top to bottom barrel for about 100 metres in crystal clear waters and pristine coral reef with initially 5 surfers on it. We ended up surfing for about 3 hours before heading back in a few miles to Signal Island for the afternoon and night. The Island is a cool little sandy mound surrounded by pure white beaches and coral reef. It is also a nature reserve with camping and BBQs allowed ashore, oh and did I mention littered with highly venomous sea snakes (kraits). They are everywhere and you have to be careful not to trip over them. We had happy hour on the beach with our new friends Sharpe and Margie watching the sun go down eating a variety of french cheeses, pates, olives, baguettes and dried fruits all washed down with ice cold beers and french wines.

What a day!!!

Bonsoir, Clearing into New Cal was a breeze with very friendly officials and no stress except for the fact that they do not speak much English. We like what we see so far, the land reminds us of the Marlborough Sounds with red earth and palmtrees thrown in for good measure. We spent last night downtown Noumea with our local friend JC, dancing the night away at La Bodega. The Market by the Marina is amazing with great produce and a Seafood section. Malin thought she died and gone to heaven. We are now anchored up amongst friends from Fiji hooking into some French delights. On the menu tonight is a fresh seafood and saffron ragou,t chased down with a smooth bottle of bordeaux!!! Tomorrow its an early start as we are heading out to Dumbea passage to surf our first New Caledonian swell!!!

As of today we are now looking at getting ready to head off to New Caledonia next week weather permitting. We will be back on YIT with updates on our departure date and passage to New Cal.

Hi all,

We are back again, chasing waves at Musket Cove. The trip up to the Yasawa Islands did deliver blue lagoons, Manta rays and exciting navigational hazards (aka uncharted bommies and reefs). A large number of boats ended up on the reef, so we took extra care by using several different sources of position fixing, only traveling in good light and keeping a good lookout at all times. The highlight of the trip was the uninhabited island of Navandra, where we spent a few days swimming in our birthday suits, chasing wild goats and building large bonfires. We are starting to look for a weather window heading west to New Caledonia. There is some big swell on the cards for next week, which means we will be staying put for now.

After a solid month of fantastic surf conditions and brilliant sunshine, things have changed. The heavens remained open for 4 days and the surf died with it. So it is time for us to do some exploring. We are sailing north this morning, up to the Yasawa Islands. Hoping for some fish, bonfires on a deserted beach, Mantarays and blue lagoons.

Bula everyone, No we have not dropped off the edge of the world!! It has been a couple of weeks of surfing pretty much every day and the waves have been great. I have broken Malins favourite pink leg rope and snapped my mid range shortboard so all and all having a ball!! We have been hanging out with a great bunch of people up here and met some locals in the afternoon volleyball matches. As it shows we have not ventured far from Musket only to go out to the reef and back. Eventually we will go further afield and have a bit off a look around. Maybe after my new surfboard turns up in the post from NZ!!!

We farewelled our friend Simon yesterday who is flying back to NZ tonight. A great man to have onboard for the trip and many a good time was had.

The contrast from Suva, with its traffic noise, burning rubber and wailing from the prison at night to this little piece of paradise is huge. The K2 crew have been doing some much needed relaxing, getting back on island time. Later on today we will move to the other side of the island to check out the local scene, perhaps engage in a Sevusevu and try out some Kava.

Anchored up outside of Royal Suva Yacht Club at 0700NZST. Spent the day washing down the boat and waiting to complete formalities. Finally got our clearance at 1500hrs so went ashore , had an amazing shower after 8 days grime and we each managed to hoof down a Titanic burger and a good quantity of local beer before coming back to the good ship Kairos. We will all sleep well tonight!!!
