Walk to historic mining site. The track starts at the western side of the entrance to a very small narrow inlet opposite the historic settlement site on the other side of the bay. The track is technically no longer maintained but was well worn and recently cleared when we followed it (2016), at least as far as the tram lines. The track is very wet and the tramlines become streams following any rain. Just over an hour in, not far after the very steep uphill segment, there is a track off to the left where there are piles of tailings. Return to the main track and continue on, on the second (not as steep) uphill there are old ruins just off to the right of the track. When you reach the tramlines area there is a track off to the right (to Diprose). If you follow it along just 20 metres of so you will come to a large old steel pipeline going down the hill. Head back and along the first tramline until rocks mark a right turn and up a few minutes to the second tramline. We didn't go much further due to thick cloud but you can continue on another hour and a half passing a dam and up to a 637m peak. Allow four hours each way. The Mana Cruising Club guide also advises to take care if you are going up to the peak as cloud can roll in trapping you overnight. More promisingly, it reports kiwi have been spotted in the tuft grass at the top.
