[status] I think Sunday was the most epic day of surf I have ever witnessed. We rolled out to Dumbea pass accompanied by Sharpe and Margie on Wanderer at about 0530 in the morning and anchored up behind the barrier reef. After dropping the dingy in the water we shot out to the right hander which looked really good but on closer inspection was a little bumpy. Deciding to check the left on the other side of the pass was by far the right call. The wave was a flawless top to bottom barrel for about 100 metres in crystal clear waters and pristine coral reef with initially 5 surfers on it. We ended up surfing for about 3 hours before heading back in a few miles to Signal Island for the afternoon and night. The Island is a cool little sandy mound surrounded by pure white beaches and coral reef. It is also a nature reserve with camping and BBQs allowed ashore, oh and did I mention littered with highly venomous sea snakes (kraits). They are everywhere and you have to be careful not to trip over them. We had happy hour on the beach with our new friends Sharpe and Margie watching the sun go down eating a variety of french cheeses, pates, olives, baguettes and dried fruits all washed down with ice cold beers and french wines.
What a day!!!
