We are poised to cross the Le Maire Strait. Arrived here 1930 after a long sail in very windy conditions but, until the last 3 miles, aft of the beam. Now hoping the wind will switch to the south west and decrease so that we can cross Le Maire tomorrow and get to Isla de los Estados before nightfall. The Le Maire strait is notorious for its rough water caused by the strong winds and the strong currents. The pilot talks of 10 metre standing waves if you get in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Ana spent many hours, probably days, in Ushuaia, applying for, and chasing the permits for Estados and Malvinas We often wondered if we should not just go without them, but it does feel good to know that we comply with the Argentinean laws, even if we do not agree with them. It will be interesting to see if anyone ever asks for them.

You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.
