Sand with patches of coral. Anchor in about 13 metres a bit out from shore to avoid coral. Dinghy access to Lamap (when tide is in at least) by the sandy beach on the point or use the wharf at Port Sandwich - there is another anchorage here also. Lamap is fairly run down but has a small shop and an airstrip nearby with flights on Mondays and Thursdays. From our anchorage we could just see the glow of the volcano on Ambrym at night and earlier at dusk got to watch many small bats flying out across the bay.
