[status]We sailed to Lolton Bay on Pentecost from Marino Bay on Maewo yesterday. The plan had been to spend a week or so up in Maewo but the volcano on Ambae changed that plan. For the second time in 2 weeks we got covered in ash as the volcano erupted with ejection of great amounts high into the atmosphere. Upper level winds were from the west carrying the ash cloud to the east and surface winds from the southeast brought it back over us on north Maewo. We washed the boat yesterday morning but, with the ash still falling, decided to head south. So we got covered again on the way down but finally are out of the ash cloud here in Lolton. We will be cleaning ash from deck, hull and rigging for some time! The volcano was still shooting ash very high yesterday evening with deep booms but, so far, we are far enough south that it is not landing on us! All is well here.
