We are gently rocking, anchored just off our very own beach and beside three lovely snorkelling reefs. We found a little beach tucked around the corner at Mbavatu Harbour, and left the fleet to have a little alone time. We are only a short dinghy ride from about ten boats tucked into their very beautiful harbour with its coves, cliffs, and Cyclone-ravaged yacht club. But here it feels like a world of our own. We went snorkelling yesterday and today, and delighted in the fish, the coral, the anemones, a turtle, the turquoise colours and the wonderful feeling of being inside a huge sheltering reef and having the worlds biggest infinity pool to play in. All by ourselves.
The water is 26 degrees. Still not quite warm enough. I'm clearly spoiled and a bit soft. But I actually put a shorty wetsuit on today when snorkelling for a couple of hours, just for that extra touch of comfort.
Jo, sadly, has been battling a minor ear infection so she is being pretty cautious about putting her head into the water full of coral spawn and fornicating fish. But I think we are on top of it now. I gave her some ear plugs to keep her ears dry, and now we are a pair of deaf old coots together, drifting the azure seas.
Still drifting on a bit of a high from ETNZ winning the America's cup yesterday.
Life remains very good.
Sausages, mashed kumara and peas tonight. Guess who was doing the cooking?
