Short motor sail yesterday with strange winds. Overall pattern of SE winds was replaced by light N winds along coast in the morning. Late morning a strong ENE wind, 11-16, developed bringing chop and whitecaps. We anchored behind a small island. Then a NW breeze developed in the late afternoon. This probably was a sea breeze as the island interior warmed. By sunset we had a SE wind at 7-10 knots, which died overnight. Four Fijian men in a longboat stopped by in the afternoon to visit. They offered us a mud crab, which we readily accepted. I offered a trolling lure in exchange, which they accepted. And they wanted to see the boat, so Ruth gave a nice tour of our home and I answered their questions about sailing and equipment.

A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.
