Cowabunga is a 2004 Fountaine Pajot Belize 43 sailing catamaran. We purchased Cowabunga in Brisbane, Australia in January 2015. We sailed her back to our home port in Nelson New Zealand in February. During the past 18 months we have done some upgrades on Cowabunga and have been preparing for our Pacific cruise. We have added a hardtop and have fully enclosed the cockpit which has been a great improvement to the comfort of Cowabunga and has essentially added another room to the boat, the cockpit is now comfortable even when its wet outside. We have been upgrading power, adding the hardtop, adding Category 1 safety gear, provisioning the boats, purchasing spare parts and preparing Cowabunga for our cruising experience. This has been a dream for over 20 years. We are planning a departure for Tonga in the first open weather window from 3 June 2016. Ron turns the big 5-0 on 2 June so we will celebrate with family before we head off on our big adventure. We are excited that our youngest son , Zachary Freiberg, aged 24 will be making the crossing with us. He has taken six weeks off work to join us. His partner, Stephanie Beaumont will be flying to Tonga on 1 July to spend two weeks cruising the Kingdom of Tonga.
