Mana

Mana is a 40ft Ganley Tara built in New Zealand in 2003. She is a New Zealand registered ship holding the category 1 safety standard. Spending most of her early years in Mana Marina she was then purchased by a Father and Daughter from Auckland who sailed her to the Pacific around 2010. She was then purchased by two Brothers Tom and James early 2018, who sailed her from the Tamaki River in Auckland down the east coast and back home to the Mana Marina. ‘Sailing with Mana’ is our story of our first season of offshore cruising with the good ship Mana. The inspiration for the name Mana comes mainly from the hometown of her two owners, in which you are blessed with the view of the majestic and powerful Mana Island. To us Mana Island is a symbol of home and safety as we often shelter in her lee to drop sails and wait for the tide to let us in over the bar after a tough Cook Straight crossing. For those who don’t know the Maori word Mana means many things... prestige, authority, control, power, influence, status, spiritual power, charisma - mana is a supernatural force in a person, place or object. All these things can be related to a well built and fit out offshore passage maker such as Mana. We plan to do her and her name justice by taking her to all the places she was built to go and more. With this seasons crew of James Matthews, Tom Matthews, Sacha Parker and Demetrio Manes (Nano) and more friends along the way. All keen surfers and lovers of the sea we are on a search for uncrowded waves and new adventures. Keep an eye out on our blog to see where we go and what we get up to! Nga Mihi Crew of Mana
