Upon the Wind is a 2000 40' Island Packet sailboat. She left Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, in March 2014 for her sailing adventure to the South Pacific. Along the way she visited the Marquesas, the Tuamotos, Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora Bora in French Polynesia; Suwarrow Island in the Cook Islands; American Samoa; Samoa; Fiji, and Tonga. She arrived in Opua, New Zealand, October 31, 2014, then sailed down to Whangarei on the east coast of New Zealand. Her owners, Mike and Theresa Mead, have made trips back and forth to the United States as well as have fully explored both the North and South Islands of New Zealand (by car). They plan to leave for the United States around May 1, 2016. Upon the Wind will make a return trip to Tahiti, then on to Hawaii, then to the west coast of the U.S., ultimately ending up in San Diego, California.
