Utuma'atu
FollowThe 'Utuma'atu is a prototype Dick Newick design. It is a 14.9m trimaran
designed specifically to provide a sustainable means of transport for the
northern islands of Tonga ( Niuatoputapu, Niuafo'ou and Tafahi). It has two
unstayed wooden masts each carrying lug rig. It is built to carry cargo, plus
a few passengers, to these isolated islands. Built by Lifestyle Yachts in
Pipiroa, New Zealand, and rigged by Doyles, Auckland, it has been funded by
the island's diaspora. Currently enroute to Tonga with a crew of four
skippered by Ian Johnston of Tasmania. For more information see
