Destination: Malekula, Vanuatu
Introduction
Malekula is Vanuatu's second-largest island, located in the central archipelago between Espiritu Santo and Port Vila. It has a reputation for fierce traditional culture — the island was one of the last in the Pacific to practice cannibalism into the early 20th century — and today maintains some of the most authentic kastom villages in Vanuatu. The surrounding waters include the Maskelyne Islands and extensive reef systems.

Protected Anchorages
Liro Harbour on the east coast near Lakatoro (the island's main settlement) provides reasonable shelter in 5–10 m. The Maskelyne Islands off the southeastern tip are the cruising highlight — Avokh anchorage and the area around Uliveo Island offer excellent shelter in 3–8 m over sand. The Small Nambas and Big Nambas tribal areas are in the island's interior — approach from anchorages on the west coast for village access.
