Destination: Da Nang, Vietnam
Introduction
Da Nang is central Vietnam's main city and its fastest-growing tourist destination, sitting at a natural pivot point on the Vietnamese coastline between the northern karst landscapes and the southern tropical waters. For yachts, it is emerging as the most accessible and practical stop in central Vietnam: Da Nang Marina, opened on the Han River, provides berths and services for visiting vessels, and the city has an international airport, comprehensive provisioning, and excellent marine services driven by its expanding superyacht charter industry. The real draw, however, lies nearby: Hoi An Ancient Town, 30 km south, is one of Southeast Asia's finest UNESCO-listed heritage towns, a perfectly preserved 15th–19th century trading port with tailors, lanterns, and some of the best food in Vietnam. The Cham ruins of My Son are 40 km southwest, and the Marble Mountains rise dramatically just south of the city. Da Nang itself has some of the best urban beaches in Vietnam — long, clean, and well-maintained along its bay.

Protected Anchorages
Da Nang Bay is a large, semicircular bay open to the northeast, offering anchorage in 6–12 metres over a mud and sand bottom with reasonable shelter in the prevailing northeast monsoon. The main commercial harbour and approach channel are busy with ferry and cargo traffic; yachts should anchor clear of the ship channel. Da Nang Marina on the Han River is the best option for overnight stays, offering floating pontoons, electricity, water, and security — note the river bar requires careful timing around tide. The Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain) in the northeast of the bay has anchorage in its southern bay in 5–10 metres with good shelter from northerly weather. Lang Co Lagoon, 40 nm north over the Hai Van Pass by sea, is a beautiful and almost entirely uncrowded anchorage in 2–5 metres behind the barrier spit, with the dramatic mountain backdrop of the pass.
Customs Protocols for Visiting Yachts
Da Nang is a full Port of Entry for international vessels, with a commercial harbour office, customs, immigration, and health clearance all available. The same agent-based permit system applies as elsewhere in Vietnam — arrange through a licensed Da Nang or national agent in advance. Da Nang's growing superyacht industry means agent services are more polished than elsewhere in Vietnam. Fuel is available at the commercial harbour and by truck to the marina. The city has extensive chandlery, a growing number of marine engineering workshops, and a thriving ship-repair industry at the naval yards (civilian access limited).
