The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.

[status] Friday 17th August from Maupihaa atoll at beer o'clock ...... with variable winds and the chance to stop without deviating too far from our target of Suwarrow we have decided to pitstop overnight in Maupihaa a small atoll approx 100nm due west from Maupiti and after coming through the narrow pass we are anchored inside the NE of the atoll. There are only a few families that live here and the supply vessel from Maupiti only calls once a month, so somewhat a remote location and no other yachts are here, which is nice!

'Champagne' sailing, albeit sadly, w/o any champagne, :-(..... 15kn beam reaching in (relatively) flat seas and glorious sunshine. About to clear the outlying reefs and turn slightly south for the final run in towards the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and landfall at Cairns... Although this is still around 250nm away, it should be only around 44hrs or so, based on present forecasts.

[re-post as original did not seem to get posted] Arrived yesterday morning off Foa Island in the Haapai after a bumpy close hauled trip from Vavua. Lots of whales sighted including two who breached by the boat around midnight on a moonless night. Amazing swim with the mum and calve whales today. Photos to follow at some point.
