[status] 1800 WST. Motored in no wind and then sailed in a light northerly, from Enderby to Eaglehawk Island, Dampier Archipelago. Easy day, only 7 miles. Went ashore and walked along the eastern beach which had interesting rock formations to the wreck of a ship. Weather looks good to head off early tomorrow for the Montebello Islands.

Yesterday when we wrote we talked about needing to slow down to make it here in the daylight hours ... well Mother Nature took care of that for us, as no sooner had we sent that update that it seemed we had arrived in a trough of no wind, lots of rain. Bound and determined not to use any of our precious diesel, we broke a new passage record for Kailani under sail [END]

We sailed to Matuku Island on 14th August because troughs and fronts were on the way, bringing changing wind directions and unpredictable conditions. Matuku harbour is very protected from wind of any direction, so we tucked oursleves in, ready to sit out whatever came. We were in for a very pleasant few days! Early morning on the 15th, we had rain and lightening, with misty cloud hanging over the mountains all around us, but the day became fine by mid-morning. A local boat was on the way out of the bay to go fishing when its outboard motor stopped.
