There are several villages around Port Resolution, a shallow harbour with a muddy bottom about 4m deep. Be aware of ash falling on your boat if the wind is blowing over the harbour from the direction of the volcano. Closest to the dinghy beach is Yatukuri with over 300 residents and a small community market selling local produce and a few arts and crafts on Tuesdays (a store was under construction on our visit in June 2019). Port Resolution Yacht Club is nearby offering a restaurant and accommodation. A local called Stanley has the job of looking after the yachties and can arrange any transport you may wish to Lenakel (some spectacular scenery on the way makes this 1.5hour each way trip a real treat - go during a week day to take advantage of the very good market there) or to Mount Yasur (a must do) etc. Hot tip - for a gastronomic treat, be sure to book in and make the trip over to White Beach Restaurant where Susan will delight your tastebuds and the beer is cold. The beach itself (a surf beach) is pretty spectacular too.
Anchor in 10 metres, a slight roll can curl into the bay. This island is sparsely populated and lacks services but offers beautiful forest walks with good birdlife and butterflies.
