There is nothing more enticing, disenchanting, and enslaving than the life at sea.

Tin Range Track

Walk to historic mining site. The track starts at the western side of the entrance to a very small narrow inlet opposite the historic settlement site on the other side of the bay. The track is technically no longer maintained but was well worn and recently cleared when we followed it (2016), at least as far as the tram lines. The track is very wet and the tramlines become streams following any rain. Just over an hour in, not far after the very steep uphill segment, there is a track off to the left where there are piles of tailings.

Bald Cone (ex Billy's Cove)

Spectacular 275m high granite peak. Two hours to the top. Follow small piles of rocks in the open terrain. When you emerge from the bush cross the gulley and follow the ridge a little before crossing to the next ridge heading for a very large rock to the right of the peak. The final section sends you up a chute (small gully of sorts) and then up the rock itself assisted by ropes which are particularly helpful on the descent. The formations from the wind and water eroding the rock are wonderful forming great places to shelter and admire the view from.

Scenic dive with good fish life - blue cod, trumpeter, butterfly perch, blue moki, tarakihi, girdled and scarlet wrasses. We also had a sea lion come check us out during the dive.
