The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.

Mimiwhangata - Kaituna Bay track

There is a loop walk on an informal track that takes you around the peninsula along beautiful beaches and a bit of rocky coast, across farmland past wetlands full of native birds and through regenerating native bush. Look out for the rare pateke/brown teal - a small brown endemic duck, a number of which can be seen in the main wetland pond. We saw variable oyster catchers and endangered dotterel on the long inner beach, and pied stilts, heaps of paradise shelduck, pukeko, black swans and shags, The track is about 4.5km long and takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.

From this anchorage you can access the tramping track north to Te
Toroa Bay or a walking track that stretches across to the other side
of the peninsula.
If you are after a longer walk the track to Te Toroa Bay continues
along on the Cape Brett Track. There is a hut at the end of the track,
bookings can be made online at www.doc.govt.nz. The website also has
lots more information about these tracks.
