The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails.

[status] Finally got to Ketchikan! Caught a rare northerly and actually got
to sail for a while. We have several projects that need attention so we
plan to be here at least a few days.

[status] Day 14... Does that mean our quarantine is finished? Can we go ashore now? We are still sailing in lovely conditions under sunny skies. Last night was slow and tedious with less than 5 knots of wind and lots of sails banging. But the wind Gods woke up late this morning and sent us a lovely breeze.

[status] Happy Anniversary to us! (Can it really have been 46 years?!) Vixen Inlet did indeed have plentiful crab, and now we've moved on to Meyers Chuck. It's a tiny fishing village (so tiny it doesn't even have internet; didn't think that happened anywhere anymore); just a few homes and small boats, and Cassie (who distributes the mail once a week and bakes cinnamon rolls).

[status] Day 13...If sailing was like this everyday, everyone would be out here! A light breeze, the boat almost upright, a gentle wave and a friendly current are the perfect combination for a relaxing day!! Now all we need is a mahi-mahi!!

[status] Day 12... The seas are flattening, the wind is shifting and the current is helping. We just achieved 200nm in 24 hours, to the delight of skipper and crew. But what was quite entertaining today, was watching the skipper, eyes glued to the GPS, willing it and encouraging it to go to 10 knots of speed over ground. Tehani-Li complied, and the captain hoorayed. It was like watching your favorite team score!! Anything to entertain us!!

[status] We are ready to head south down Clarence Strait to Ketchikan, but since that trip is upwind we still need to wait for a better weather window. In the meantime, we have moved to Vixen Inlet. It's very calm here, and as always, we are alone in the anchorage. The previous location used to have good crabbing but now it's full of jellyfish and we caught no crab; we're hoping for better luck here.

Just some quick updates which I'll have to expand and edit later (as we are
due to depart for NZ)!.
A pretty relaxed month in Nuka Hiva (broken only by chores such as fixing
the boom with help from a friend Harry and materials donated by Bachus and
Moira) included a wee circumnavigation with our friend Thomas that saw us
stopping at some great anchorages and exploring ashore. This was followed
