Protected Anchorages

Port Resolution on the southeastern coast of Tanna is the primary anchorage, inside a small sheltered bay formed by a submerged volcanic caldera. Depths are 10–20 m with good holding over sand. The anchorage can be affected by swell from the southeast but is generally comfortable in trade wind conditions. Sulphur Bay on the southeast coast is more exposed but closer to Mount Yasur. Approach Tanna from the south — the coastline has no hazardous reef on the main approach.

No customs facilities on Tanna. Vessels must hold a valid Vanuatu cruising permit obtained in Port Vila. Tanna is a popular stop after Port Vila clearance.
