Lelu Harbor, Kosrae

Lovely harbor/Bay. Nearly 360 protection. The bay is surrounded by mountains and hills, with the narrow entrance channel open to the East. As of 2019: Range lights are not working, outer marks have white lights. No officials monitoring VHF. Anchor off from Ace Hardware which is center of Lelu Village. Good holding in 9m. Mud and Sand. Some minor roll at High Water. Lelu has a good grocery, green grocery, laundry mat, hardware store, and fuel can be delivered to the village dock from the gas station located on the other side of the causeway, where they also rent cars.

What a delightful passage from Cape Town to St. Helena! We're about 270nm from Jamestown Harbour and are beginning to watch our speed closely, monitoring the likelihood of the required arrival by daylight. We don't arrive in unknown places in the dark, will stand off till daylight if necessary,and at the end of a long passage we'd REALLY rather not postpone dropping the hook!

[s] We have moved a little further north in Ailuk to find a combination of adequate protection from the winds and seas outside the atoll and a good place for the kids (and grown ups) to kiteboard. A quick recce ashore yesterday - looks like a good spot.
