Destination: Loyalty Islands, New Caledonia
Introduction
The Loyalty Islands — Maré, Lifou, and Ouvéa — lie 100–200 km east of New Caledonia's main island (Grande Terre) and are among the most culturally distinct and naturally beautiful islands in the French Pacific. Unlike the lagoon-enclosed main island, the Loyalties are raised coral atolls with dramatic limestone cliffs, pristine beaches, and warm, clear water with exceptional visibility. The Kanak culture here is strong and the welcome is genuine.

Protected Anchorages
Lifou: Chépénéhé Bay on the western coast is the main anchorage in 10–20 m over sand, exposed to the northwest. Wé (the main town) has a small bay but limited shelter. Maré: Tadine Bay on the western coast has the island's main wharf and reasonable anchorage. Ouvéa: the stunning atoll lagoon at Fayaoué on the western side offers excellent anchorage in 3–8 m over sand, sheltered by the barrier reef. Ouvéa's lagoon is considered one of the most beautiful in the Pacific.
