Double Bubble
After a lovely few days of gently bobbing, cool breezes & overcast skies (& now polished stainless rigging & staunchions) we have cruised around to the other side of Maggie Island & dropped anchor in a quite sedate Horseshoe Bay for an upcoming blow. We'll hang here for a few days & a catch up with Swifts' Rob & Judith before we decide what comes next. I should point out Skipper was given a used kayak & replaced my paddle board "Kat's Island", I've had it for 27 years & fibreglass was sodden, apparently! As always, click on pictures for enlargement.
We have finally departed the marina & have dropped anchor at Bolger Bay NW of Magnetic Island. No chance of any solar power as very overcast today, which makes it a perfect opportunity to polish the stainless.
Pre- departure update, we were going to leave today but have been rain delayed & will finally be at anchor come Saturday! Doing our final jobs, Skippers' serviced the main winches & furler lines washed, they were going green. We'll do a final fresh veg top up & laundry & a few catch up's with friends then we're off.
Let's try this. Woo hoo, it's working. I'm back, had some issues with YIT server. Well, I spoke to soon about the rain stopping, it's been endless & breaking all kinds of records. Floods, shops & roads closed, & a repreave at present from the deluge. Rod has now finished both engines (in closed hatches) & moved onto the generator, this weekends project, changing over to new glowplugs (makes the genny fire up). We're pretty much loaded up with our stores & spares & all sections organised, just delayed on washing covers, nothings drying. We're down to 24 days remaining in the marina & can't wait to be on anchor again. Oh apparently there is an issue on email alerts if anyone is using them, currently not working! Going out to Ardo's for lunch today with Ziggy & Tessa.

Nearly 3 months of non-stop rain has finally come to a end & water has subsided, roads have been re-opened & groceries are getting through. Skipper has serviced the Port side engine doing a cylinder head overhaul, starboard engine to follow. Had a build of barnacles in the inlet & hoses to the A/C pump, (the day it was 40 deg) so extremely hot whilst clearing the hoses etc, but clever skipper got it back up & running. Had a fun afternoon/evening with friends for my birthday yesterday with strawberry & mango daiquiri's, champagne & tiramisu!

Well heavens, it sure has rained on us here....(understatement of the year), crikeys, absolutely pouring & currently no end in sight! One minute hot as, next wet as, oh well, wet season really taking it's toll here this year, massive floods etc, but we're all good & no real ingress into the Bubble, but for stitching in clears not waterproofed! We had a great day in the wet for Australia day bbq (was to be up top) moved onboard. We caught up with some friends from Vic, who get very wet out in crazy weather, great to catch up. Whole trees down, branches strewn & debris floating in the water with crocodiles & we're about to get another weekend full of water. Not much else happening I'm still reading, onto my 19th in a row as skipper has started ordering parts & spares for engine & taking head off & servicing injectors etc. Looks like it will be clear weather for my birthday at least & we'll all be back to moaning about the heat!!!

Our fortnightly update, been super hot here, as to be expected, with about 5 more weeks of the worst left, so not to much outside activities. Skipper has replaced both toilets with new LED blue toilets seats, very cool, & has spent considerable time updating our Open CPN Charts. We have emptied one front locker, preparing for a paint job (too hot) & offloaded our old scuba tank! I've read several JD Robb books, excellent. We have both spent the day making new bridles for Pelagic II, me a 3 strand splice, skipper doing top job on a double braid. We are preparing for Australia day celebrations with a bbq & pavlova up top of the marina. Happy Birthday Mum.

We are now back in Townsville after our nice trip away. I managed to get a lot of gardening done with my new knee coming along & made good use of the Skipper doing several jobs around the house! We have now decided that we are over the heat & desparetely wanting to get back out on the water & in it for a swim, paddle boarding etc away from all things FNQ wanting to eat us! We had a crocodile in the marina 31st Dec, so no going near the edges! Unfortunately we are not covered by insurance until the end of cyclone season so we're stuck here, we will just start getting our stores back up & readying Bubble for her next venture.

We he have had a lovely Christmas with old sailing friends on Duet who gave up the sea for the land & had our friend Michelle come up to join us at Landsborough after horrrid trip on train & bus (track was flooded from Townsville to Mackay, ergo bus to Mackay) Bring on the survey, ha! We were also able to meet up with another Kerry & Rick from Starfish who have left their vessel in Lan Cowie, Malaysia, we may join them for a jaunt! Off to Michelle's tomorrow for another week & don't know if YIT will continue in the New Year!

Skipper has completed the removal, relining & installation of new 4 burner, griller stove which, naturally required adjustments of stove shelf & lowering under top of drawer beneath. I'm currently making a helm cover for a friend. We have had quite a bit of rain in the last few weeks which has kept the temperature down, & have had numerous catch ups with friends. We are now worrying about our rail trip south with all this rain & possibly cancellation due to floods, so here's hoping, Merry Christmas!

Quick update on yet another rainy, drizzly day which is great, in that it's keeping it quite cool (for Townsville) & has been since we first came into the marina. Skippers' been busy refurbishing Portlights & looking into options for a new stove as replacement seals are no longer available! I have been making various items & continuing with culling.

Skipper has been up & down mast & problem was discovered with anchor light cable having weird horizontal markings, haphazardly in a small section of cable approximately 1cm wide, for about 1.5mtr, 3.5mtr down from the top of the mast, & now we have removed Nav light cable only 2 spots less than a cm! All new insulated triple core tinned wire installed & bright shiny lights ablaze, yay! Husband did good! I have continued the cull & sorting down Port side of vessel & we now move onto freshening up paint in lockers etc.

We have settled back into marina life, catching up with friends & have just seen the movie "Lee", highly recommend. I've been busy clearing out lockers & shredding reams of paperwork no longer required whilst Skipper has been busy renewing cabin window inserts (4 of), changing from brown to white. Next job, is to go up the mast & see if it will be an easy fix to get the anchor light repaired, (he has a cunning plan), we just need an overcast day, so as not to fry in the sun & no wind, luckily we have steps up the mast so I'm only really winching bosuns chair up & not his weight!!!

With very few northerly anchorages & skipper out of beer we have decided to come into the marina a few days early. We have had a lovely time just hanging on anchor, trying to take photo's of F18's & chasing Shearwater birds off the boat, constantly, pooping everywhere & weird clacker birds trying to nest in Boom bag, determined little blighters! We ummed & arred about coming back here for cyclone season or to go down to Gladstone, figure we'll take our chances here for a cyclone versus constant storms down south, plus Darwin is the plan for the New Year.

Up early, again, had a nice sail back to Magnetic Island, Bolger Bay for 2 nights before we headi around to Horseshoe Bay, Thusday. Had a lovely day yesterday at Yanks Jetty at Orpheus Island & got a few nice photos & on the way here, got a serious buzz by 2 F18 Hornets flying sideways, straight at us less than 50 metres, the noise was incredible, skipper, in the right spot could see the pilot's helmet, so crazy close, awesome!!!!

We've headed back to Orpheus Island, picking up a mooring & will stay overnight before heading back to Magnetic Island.

We've come 20nm south, down the Hinchinbrook Channel to Haycock Island for an overnight stay prior to our return to Orpheus Island. Skipper made a few hundred litres of water, whilst I turned flat sheets into fitted. Rod spotted a shark & I saw a big sea snake, plenty of turtles but no croc or dugong spotted.

Up at 7am & off to Macushla Bay at the top of Hinchinbrook Island to wait out the next blow & to make some fresh water from the clear blue sea.

Took Bubble over to the service wharf at the Tsv marina yesterday where skipper filled up a few jerry cans, (fuel tanks already full), & put on some water whilst Jeff whizzed me up to get my Coles order etc & then back to Bolger for the night before we departed at 7am to Orpheus Island today arriving at 13:30pm. After skippers been up & down the mast a 1/2 doz times we've determined no power from somewhere a 1/3 of the way up the mast, so we'll need to run new cable. We have enough external light so we have decided to cruise north as is, & fix it when we have to return to the marina for cyclone season, again!!!

30 knot Southerlies have finally stopped, only for a few days however so we have moved around to NE side back to Bolger Bay where it's not so swelly after the blow & I now get to send the skipper up the mast to see whats going on with our Anchor light, hopefully just a loose wire, then we will decide if we're heading North or South pre cyclone season berthing.

Arrived at Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island to tuck in for next weeks blow, then head off once that's gone through, still undecided where we will base for cyclone season! Solar panels took a little longer as original concept didn't quite work, ergo a few more design changes & then additional bracing incorporated so we now have 1.4 kilowatts, so we'll see how we go!

We are back in the marina, just in time for skipper to sign for our Solar panel & various other bits & bobs! We copped quite a bit of smoke & ash with a wind change at Young bay & glad to have moved on to begin our re-configuration & installation of new panel, hopefully it all goes well & we're out within the week!

We have up anchored & come to the western side of Magnetic Island to Young Bay for a few days. We've had a few catch ups with various friends for skippers birthday & a surprise meeting with another couple we know from North Haven at the bus stop! There's been quite a display of whales breaching as they head south but didn't see any this morning. Maggie Island race week starts today so we'll have a better view as they all pass by with spinnakers out!

Lovely to be back hanging on an anchor, and we've had some absolute pearler conditions! We've had 2 boats come into the bay from our marina in North Haven SA, and had a couple of catch ups with them as well as 2 neighbours from Breakwater marina! Skipper's been busy monitoring new Lithium Phosphate Lifepod 4 batteries & as suspected we're right on the edge, so we have decided to get another 415amp Solar Panel taking us up to 1.4kw. As a consequence (& whilst keeping in touch with Pa 93yrs who's a bit dodgy) we have decided to assist Anapa going on the slip & go back to the marina (hopefully for only a week) to use marina car to get parts & fit panel etc, order everything now and go in 2nd Sept!

We have moved around to Horsehoe bay, eastern side of Magnetic Island to catch up with friends on Anapa, stretch our legs onshore, & see how I go with my knee getting in the tender!

Well, woo hoo & ye ha, we have finally escaped the shackles that have bound us to the marina & we can get back to cruising. We have anchored back at Bolger Bay west side of Magnetic Island, we will hang here for a few days just to check that all systems are go & whilst we monitor new batteries.

Another Antifoul completed, Rods 36th time, my 26th! Luckily wind & rain abated & we got back to our berth with the help of Anapa's, Jen & Tony. Bubble painted, polished, legs serviced & new anodes, job done. Now it's clean up time & get vessel ready to leave Townsville sometime next week, weather dependent.

I've returned to Townsville, back onboard, on the hard at Rosshaven Marine, the less said about that the better! Skipper has done a great job on his own with the boat fully sanded, legs & props cleaned & he has nearly finished polishing the starboard side. We getting the ice chill factor all the way up here, Brisbane airport was freezing & not much better here! The car has been sold so thanks to Jeff for picking me up. The wind is going to continue to blow next week which is going to make it tricky for us to get back in the water as well as to the marina, so time will tell. Big thank you to Michelle once again for looking after me, at least I was there to celebrate her Birthday, cheers!

Update on the "Bubble", skipper has been doing everything whilst I continue to recover from sugeries, I've had stitches removed & been given "gold stars" for both operations in terms of recovery, so we are effectively good to go, however with the slip it's too much for me going up & down stairs etc so I'm back in Brisbane (COLD) & Rod took boat around for the slip today & with 25kn winds the lift was cancelled until Tuesday! Everyday we get closer to leaving the marina & we now have the car up for sale with a possible buyer, not long to go!!

Sorry, been a problem, but thanks to Mike at "YIT" I think we're sorted! So skipper has finalised the completion of the installation of Lithium Lifepo4, woo hoo, nothing blown up, all systems good, minimal drama, yay! I went ahead with hand surgery last Wednesday & with that & knee surgery "I'm living the dream" (pain) & skippers been doing 12-14hr days climbing in & out of engine rooms a zillion times. Here's the the good news though we have another 4 weeks to go before we finally get to leave Townsville marina & get back out on the water, down side, we have to slip Bubble again, blà! Stay tuned!

Current update, after my flight back on a Fokker 100 straight out of the 1970's complete with ashtrays in armrests I am back onboard, & getting around albeit still gingerly with my new knee! Skipper has progressed with Lithium batteries & almost ready to shut down boat for change over, having to get new cables, lugs, fuses etc & make them all up & then we'll have to plug 240v freezer into marina & jury rig fridge for maybe a couple of days. Here's hoping not too many drama's.

We made a split decision last weekend to go back up to Cairns & join Tessa & birthday boy Ziggy & also to attend a Cruising Qld group of yachties at Zorkies knob. We got to catch up with old friends & meet knew ones, good times. Onto more important things, I now have a new knee WOO HOO! Apparently sugery went very well, I had a lovely private room with own ensuite, great meals & nurses very nice, bar 1 "nurse Ratchet"! Left hospital straight to the airport & Brissy, where I had 3 seats for my leg to rest upon & now being nursed by my friend Shell. Meanwhile Skipper is having a wonderful time drawing up electrical configuration diagrams as we make the change over to Lithium batteries!

So for a fortnightly update we're still keeping busy as we wait for new knee, 9 days to go. Skippers been putting LED lights under the cockpit & saloon tables & also the undersides of our cabin beds, complete with dimmer switches, super cool. He's also serviced engines & genny. I've had a lovely time cutting up old sheets & dyed with food colouring & making some funky overalls for the slip, also made a new dress.

Quick update, unfortunately I managed to pick up skippers lurgy & got a cold!! Yep, so surgery was cancelled....fill in the blanks, the alternative was I could have gotten a case of pneumonia, so bum, bugger & poo however, I do now have another date for 11th May, so stuck here a bit longer. On the upside we got our sliding doors back, which look fabulous, super happy, with clever husband (after getting his 2nd ever cold & giving it to me)!

Sorry, issues again with site, so, catch up... we've just spent 4 days in Cairns with our Pelargic friends, & drove through Palm Cove up to the markets in Port Douglas & have just returned to the boat in preparation for surgery Wednesday. Skipper's been up the mast & repaired the wind/speed meter, legend that he is & sails are back on, of course, nothing goes smoothly on a boat so whilst dragging main up on to the boom it snapped the bracket base on the AIS, awesome, so new base & re-run wires...woo hoo, eassy peassy!!!

So back here in Tsv, & hope everyone had a Happy Easter. Skipper has been very busy making framework for sliding doors either side at midships, just have to wait for the doors to be cut now, whilst I've been re-making hatch covers that have turned turtle with the heat here, pre knee op! We now need to sort wind meter at top of mast, put main & headsail back on & start getting vessel ready for movement without me!

Woo hoo, it's back working! Took a bit of clever investigation, (well I thought I was clever) & I located the domain host for the YIT website & rang NZ & we're back in business! Well I guess following on, floor is all done & skirtings throughout back on, & boat looks quite good. Ultimate news is I've been upgraded & moved over to a private hospital & I'm getting a new knee, 17th April! So whilst we've been waiting, Skippers just landed back at Maroochydore after a week in Adelaide & will be driving down to Brissy where I'm staying at Michelle's, eta 12pm whilst we have Col Quinrig give mainsail a birthday & make a new front cover.

Well, thankfully TC Kirrily didn't double back, got some great sky shots following though! We have quite a bit going on with both hull floorings cut & laid (not glued & not the shed floor), we are now working on entrance & saloon, pretty tricky trying to cut & lay, when nowhere to cut, but we'll get there. The replacement unit for Aft, stbd A/C has arrived & skipper is starting on that, supposedly straight fit replacement (but of course not)! We have had to buy a replacement 96 led light for our cockpit, which carked it (weird flashing white & blue) & then our awesome ceiling fan died 4yrs old, luckily got a new one half price, woo hoo $20! Also Sirroco nav room fan died on special $180, along with boat hook finally ceased after going for a swim, I think in the Hawkesbury!! We had a marina cyclone debrief which is helpful for all & caught up with friends.

So here's an update on Cyclone Kirrily here in Townsville. After mandatory evacuation at 2pm, we left the boat & promptly got hit by a heavy rain shower prior to reaching the car! Arrived at the Lodge & got safely tucked into the 2nd last end unit, there wasn't masses of rain & wind due to locality, but come midnight she whirly gigged her way through, with evac sirens sounding, I sat happily on the balcony, very protected, as was the car, skipper & Phil both asleep (both exhausted). Not huge carnage here, winds 175km, power was turned off at the marina, lost tv signal at the lodge when upgraded to Cat 3, (ergo watching storm). We returned to the marina 8.30am, ran up generator having used 7amps an hr overnight, fridge & freezer on 240v hanging on invertor (wind genny tied off), prior to power being turned back on. Have proceeded to put everything back on, boat dry, no damage & all good! Thankfully it was nowhere near as bad as predicted. Hopefully it doesn't double back!

I thought I'd do a quick update pre our Cat 2 cyclone!! So Bubble has been stripped as best we can, mainsail rolled into boom furler, headsail off, bagged & downstairs, tender & solar panel ratchet tied, top panels & portico strapped down (only just got them, store empty). All covers, cushions etc removed, all hatches locked down & she has been double roped in her pen. The full moon was bringing a king tide but that is no longer an issue (we hope). Evacuation is happening between 12 -3 pm & we will be heading off to stay at Yongala Lodge with neighbour Phil. On other matters, we laid (not glued) our cabin with new flooring & we both hate it, so are waiting on our next choice to arrive & also our port aft A/C condenser has a crack in it, so waiting on a new one of those, hopefully we'll still have a boat to come back too! Oh and skipper did an interview with a reporter onboard for The Bulletin!

Happy New Year, apologies for the delay, we have had quite a bit on & it's only going to get worse with our latest lot of madness! Firstly I must say I am loving my new collapsible silicone container drawer Shell bought for me, yay! I've made some more glasses coasters & a new dress, & restitching covers with the good cotton. Skippers been busy with various jobs, mainly the overhaul of the stbd engine water pump & currently putting on a bigger water trap for the A/C, too much floating debris from the rain (currently some choice words abound). We've had the sad passing of our Townsville friend Crumpy, who Rod has known for some 42 years, so catching up with other long not seen mates. So now for the madness, we have decided to renew our floors throughout Bubble with 2mm Vinyl floorboards, argh (I can already hear the swearing) so I am merrily drawing up the floor plan to get a sense of our requirements. I have only 3 days to go before seeing the specialist about my new knee & info as to how much longer we have to wait!

Merry Christmas to all & hope it was a good one! Well skipper has run cables (more holes in boat M) & fitted & connected up the Starlink system, we sailed all the way from Adelaide & barely lost signal with our booster, but for NT & outer reef we can use this. We've had fun at the marina Christmas party, & catch ups with others & have been joined by my friend Michelle for Christmas, I've whipped up a dress for her & are just now driving back to the marina after a lovely cool swim in Little Crystal Creek followed by a great lunch at the Rolly pub. It's Shell's last day with us today & she gets to fly back to Brisbanes carnage of weather!

I've had a bit of a log on issue, so apologies for delay. So we had done all our prep work for Cyclone Jasper, lots of doubling up on ropes etc, I didn't think it looked like it was going to hit here but may possibly double back in the next week! That said, our friends just got back to Aust from New Caledonia & raced fron Bundaberg (check in) up to here ahead of cyclone, so good times have been had with them. We've started up on various jobs, 1 being the sorting of the hoses, (we have a zillion). I am back on the sewing machine repairing huge covers for Phil & sewing replacement covers for us. Skipper now busy drilling yet more holes in boat (sorry M) for Starlink cable (new WiFi connection) bought awhile ago, but has neither been needed nor set up & wired. Tomorrow we have our marina party (postponed because of cyclone), so spent sometime stitching snow & fir to my red dress!

Bit more than 2 weeks for an update, sorry. Had nearly 3 weeks in Brisbane gardening with my friend & I'm now back in Townsville with humidity at 70%, just on the edge of the storm that saw my flight delayed by nearly 3 hours, great lighting strikes in the air! Skipper has been busy re-vamping heads, re-coating varnish work & spending money, buying a new microwave an air fryer & a car, (being that were stuck here for 4 months) we can get out & about more without 2 hour limitations on a car.

With blue skies the weather has been lovely, 10kn breeze & pretty much 30 degrees every day. Rods back dealing with anchor winch spare motor & I've made a new bbq cover, tool bag & 1 1/2 tops! We've had a few trips out & about & catch ups with friends & getting organised for BrissyTuesday.

With the ferries going to & fro the island, Picnic's anchorage is far to rocky/rolly for us & we have now returned to the marina as our base for the wet season, keep insurers happy against cyclones, whilst our friends on Pelargic are facing Cyclone Lola in Noumea, so fingers crossed for them. Rod will have to fly to Adelaide, whilst I go to Brissy & wait for a new knee!

We moved around to Bolger Bay to make some fresh water the day before, having caught up with Roo bin esq & meeting Jen & Tony off Anapa & have now moved around to Picnic bay, keeping an eye out on possible cyclone around Solomon Is.

So we had a quick trip over to the "Duck pond" (just outside of the marina) to vote last weekend & have just now dropped anchor at White Lady Bay (think Horseshoe Bay), 2 little beaches here and a string of "Shark Bouys" so no paddle boarding again! We're currently biding our time with various issues & contemplating aeroplane flights.

So yesterday, we had a dinghy ride ashore, went for a wander, then lunch at the pub & chat with a lonely local, and a nice stroll along the beach. Today we had a quick catch up with the "Roo bin Esqu" crew & then thanks to a moron that sailed in amongst anchored boats, right across our bow, no engine, & dropped 5 metres of chain 10 feet in front of us, & another loser who anchored over the top of our anchor, we've move back to Bolger Bay, with 30 plus knots forecast tomorrow, we put out our happy 50 metres & we'll sit it out again, for another week. People are stuck up north at Thursday Is, Cairns etc, still trying to get back south pre Nov 1st, cyclone season, because the wind won't stop!

Up & at it at 7am (joy), we have moved around to Horseshoe Bay for the next 30kn blow coming over the weekend & suss out the whole voting thing, tried doing it before we left town but ballots were not printed. There's been some glorious night skies, still trying to catch the shot!

We have left the marina & have just anchored back at Bolger Bay. Skipper did an awesome job of replacing engine mounts, on his own, in under a day & no swearing!! I did hospital/ Dr thing & await a decision from them before determining our movements from Townsville.

We have come into the marina for a planned "1 week" stay initially for my hospital appointment, but now skipper has the ominous job of changing over the engine mounts in situ, so timing may blow out, plus we just lost a circlip off a winch, so we'll have to chase that up too.

Finally enough of a break in the wind to do an 1 1/2 hr jaunt over to the duck pond (outside of the marina entry) & do a dinghy ride into the marina where Phil off Vivamus (our neighbour in the marina) is going to drive me around to get essentials, think beer, wine .. oh & food!

Thought I'd do a brief update, & advise of nothing new, 80 odd boats around at Horseshoe & a rally going on & we are still getting blown about with our neighbours "Roo Bin Esq". We've had 2 catch ups on both boats, lovely couple, it is however just too rough to dinghy about further, they did get their drone out early on so we now have a lovely shot of Double Bubble at anchor in the bay, very shallow here & have to anchor a fair way out, lots of crocs ashore, so very much boat bound, with various things to keep us both amused, currently making bread as our food supplies slowly diminish, no wine & only 7 cans of beer! The marina is full & we are not able to go in again until the 23rd for yet another Dr appt.

Well after a few days and a mad influx of boats all trying to anchor on top of each other we have up anchored & away back to Bolger Bay NW side of Magnetic Island. We had a lovely day out, ashore, even enjoying a very nice lunch. Skipper repaired compass light (wiring seemed to have collapsed with age) he also diagnosed & repaired over the phone Duets pump failure which was meerly the switch, clever skipper, he does that a lot & should start a business!

We did a quick trip over to the marina yesterday, offload rubbish & fill up 120 litres of diesel in jerry cans, then back to Bolger for the night to make more water & we have now come around to the NW side of Magnetic Island into Horseshoe bay ready for the 25kn South easterlies headed our way tomorrow, (this place will fill up pretty soon). Just as an aside Horizon anchored in the bay near us yesterday, a boat from our marina in Adelaide! This wind will blow for another week at least so this is the spot for now.

Up early to go with tide & make our way back to Maggies Bolger Bay, skipper has spotted a tiny split in the sail, 15mm ish, so I have myself a little sewing job! I meant to show the pictures of the Lucinda jetty, the longest in the southern hemisphere!

Up & away at 6.50 today & picked up a mooring at Orpheus Island 10.30. We'll stay here today & make water, (to muddy in the channel), get some washing done & general clean up and probably head on down to Magnetic Island tomorrow.

Up anchored enroute to Haycock Island inside of Hinchinbrook Channel, (think Cardwell FNQ) where we're wanting to get a good spot before everyone else comes into the channel to escape the strong south easterlies coming next week. I can't recall if we had a good signal so am posting now, hopefully I can stil get a footy score, with the up coming Blue moon, maybe a few more good shots & no bugs! Last time we were here we watched a crocodile steal a crab pot! Ok so super, we have just anchored, & have signal, now we can watch the footy, yay. Repairs to the anchor winch all seem to working fine, so woo hoo.

Off early again with a very pleasant cruise up to Macushla Bay, atop Hinchinbrook Island on the skippers birthday! Lots of whales along the way, still to far away for a decent shot!

So after testing everything prior to departing, the wind meter refused to spin at anchor, so up the mast the skipper did go, & with a bit of engineering nohow, he fixed it. So off at 6.50am today, beautiful clear day trip up to Pioneer Bay, Orpheus Island, picked up a mooring 13:50pm. Skipper saw several whales bounding about early, whilst I slept & only saw 1! We'll stay here overnight & head for Maclushla Bay top of Hinchinbrook Island tomorrow.

Well 3 surgeries later, quite a few get togethers & a whole pile of sewing we have finally departed the marina & anchored over at Magnetic Island's - Bolger Bay. We'll hang here for a day or 2 to ensure our anchor winch is working properly underload prior to heading north.

So we have had a good catch up with our friends Micky & Sue, from Cairns heading back to SA & also caught up with our friends from SA heading to Cairns, both caravans, with friends due to arrive by yacht maybe tomorrow & a catchup with our Pies supporter who Power play tonight. With the howling South easterlys still raging on were saving ourselves from being boat bound & remain for another week as La Nina turns to El Nino & sorts itself out. After 11 years the tv decided to start dying so we've bought a new one, with skipper altering brackets etc., I've finished cushions & just have a bit of tightening to do on bases, looks pretty good. We've also finally given in & bought a decent trolley to lug jerry cans, gas bottles & beer etc.

Firstly, cyst came back benign so excellent results there, & I've moved onto "soft foods" light pasta's etc. We had planned to leave Thursday but with the next weeks weather, friend Phils 70th & friends coming here from Cairns we've decided to stay another week! Skippers been pfaffing with various jobs & I'm now sewing covers for back cushions we've just cut up, endless sewing! We had every boaties fear happen yesterday with a big steel boat losing control in the marina & took out 2 boats, 1 liveaboard, 1 cruiser, very loud crunches, & a fair amount of screaming! V8 Supercars are on here, with various other activities, even treated to a "Loop de Loop" airshow this morning!

So sorry to all the southerners but goodness me, we have had some beautiful weather, with most boats going out to the reef in ideal conditions, we are of course not one of them! So surgery has been done & cyst removed, & they think the nerve is intact, now all my food needs to be pureed for at least the next 4 weeks, woo hoo, so fingers crossed for benign results with follow up next week & hopefully we can be on our way by the end of the month. Skipper has been busy doing little touch ups here & there on deck & made laminate surround to hide bigger electric winch cables, good job, he also put up sensored strip lighting in the pantry. I'm now back phaffing with cushion covers & finishing flyscreens, biding our time, getting sorted, watching the footy, hanging out with Albuquerque neighbour! Our delay in leaving meant we were here for 25mins of the new F35 jet & just 1 lucky dude getting to do his thing above The Strand, so close to us - AWESOME

We have had another delay with regards to us leaving as I have had another surprise crop up health wise & face another surgery, another scan now & surgery asap! We have both been busy I have completed cushion covers for now, (will phaff with them later), Rod has had to re-do sink plumbing all due to not being able to get a plug that fits a 30 year old sink, so thats now sorted. We've had a few catch ups with friends as we were each departing, even gone to the movies (Maybe I do) with Sailway friends. We also went out & bought a 1 burner Induction cooktop (of course new pot/pan required) works a treat, super fast & no heat in galley!

So nearly good to go on Friday/Saturday being that the southeries still have a while to blow up the coast we'll use that to go further north where it's warmer, when the change comes will head back south aim for Tassie (in summer) & then go "West about" to the Kimberlies next year, who knows, we're very fluid! I've completed "rubbing strake" & it's now secured on tender. Rod has mastered eye splicing on sheet ropes for our headsail so hopefully no longer gets snagged, excellent job, complete with heatshrink! We've also mounted a "solar headlight" over anchor chain, works a treat! Also after approx 10 years "hard labour" sewing all our covers my little Elna sewing machine finally died so luckily 50% off at Spotlight & making new covers for cushions as fabric burrs badly on previous ones.

So enroute now for hopefully last MRI & the end of the doctor shuffle, we're now paid up until the 2nd of June & then we're back out to sea, woo hoo! We are still undecided, but we'll probably go north for awhile & then meander down for cyclone season at Fraser Island or hey go to Louisades!! We've both been busy, skipper setting up Starlink, running bigger cables, making bracket etc as another alternative to our Iridium Go. Sorting engines & spares etc & had to polish out all the a/foul ingrained after slip. I've made another outboard cover this one for Ziggy & Tessa & their new dinghy!

Well happy days & hip hip hooray, we are in the water & back at the marina with skipper currently hosing off the black antifoul, dirt & dust, inground into our beautiful deck! We have decided to give Oyster White Alltex No 5 a try, it seems to reflect the light better & appears to do a better job repelling barnacles, we shall see. So with days of rain & then 10 days of 35kn SE we couldn't go back in until the wind dropped off ergo 20 days & $4,500 later, we're back. We met new yachties on the slip "Beyond Outrageous Reloaded" Shell & Tony, so we had company the whole time watching each other work!

Well happy days on the slip, bonus is, the first few days had a lot of heat build up, then down came the rain, so we got held up a bit with that & now have had a lovely cool breeze blowing straight on us as we work, realistically Rod doing most of it! We were fortunate in Rod locating in the give away section in the marina a 6mth old A/C with a note saying it rattled so clever skipper pulled it apart & got it going for a cool cabin jury rigged for exhaust & drainage into the heads sullage (our 4 A/C's are salt water cooled so no good on the hard)! Weather is going pear shaped later in the week, blowing big time so we won't be back in the water until mid next week, unfortunately planned to be done pre my surgery but not happening now so pressure off to do the job in a hurry!

Fortnight update, we seem to be constantly on the go of late. We had Rods cousin Kelly & her lovely friend Barb come for a visit for a few days after driving up from down south. We also had a couple of visits from our friend Wayne up from Bundaberg, & we got to yell at the telly & watch Power v Pies game, we lost again! We "au revoired" our friends from "Starfish" Rick & Kerry as they've sailed off up north to Darwin, we may or not join them, insurance looks to be approx. $9000 for that trip, Cape Tribulation is now the cut off for insurance, now considered "Remote" so incurs extra fees. We are now waiting on our new alternator to be re-jigged so we can go "woo hoo" around to the slip next week for ANNUAL slip. We also had a lovely surprise visit from our Bowen friends, John & Ann, great to catch up, albeit a quick one.

Well woo hoo, I'm back on, yay! I think maybe that last whirly gig that we dodged & ended up in Auckland did a lot more damage than we heard about here! So as a catch up, I went to Perth for my Aunty Kaths funeral & saw quite a number of reli's I've not seen in, easy 20 odd years then after a weeks recovery from that we both flew to Brisbane with Rod heading down to assist Duet in having topsides painted & I went to Michelles to garden.

Well we have certainly had our fair share of rain recently & barometer is going down again with curly little system off in the Coral Sea, think it will miss us, looks like heading over to Auckland on the weekend, opposite direction to my heading on a plane to Perth to farewell my beautiful 95 yr old aunt. We had a lovely Australia day get together with friends & Skipper has been busily ticking items off our "to do" list, & finally have lovely doors over a little cupboard we have under the saloon table, end to end the chain, wired up new repeater plotter screen whilst I'm still sewing yet more covers, this time for instrument cover at helm to protect controls, compass etc & now repairing big cover over saloon that got torn in the last storm we just had.

An update on all things Double Bubble in Townsville with success at last being achieved on the drama of the anchor winch, the one thing we did not have was a reversing solenoid so this was ordered with the motor & was in fact too small for the motor, needless to say one very peeved skipper! I've been having some Emmett Technique treatment which is allowing some freer movement for my body, thank heavens. We are both continually busy, I'm back on the sewing machine, outboard covers are now the game with 1 down for Stu, & Ziggy's to commence. We've caught up with several couples & enjoyed a lovely Thai meal last night with Lisa & Stu, Lanise & Ty & the pups (we were on puppy sitting duties yesterday), & I did a few feet & hands.

Happy New Year folks, so glad that YIT appears to be working in 2023, thank you Mike. So lots have been going on, starting with great New Years gathering being enjoyed on the Bubble with another spontaneous night of hilarity with the return of Ziggy & Tess back to the marina with Pelargic from Cairns on Saturday night with Lisa & Stuart, all a bit quiet Sunday! The anchor winch drama continues with the people at Nilsons in NZ, we just got another motor today, same thing happening, drawing way too much yet a smaller motor @ 1200 watts, put ours back on @ 1400 watts, works perfectly (replacing ours because its 30 years old & we don't want the anchor winch to fail enroute to Darwin). I got booked in for a new knee op for 10th Feb & Bupa no longer covers it, so the waiting game for public hospital commences.

Well Merry Christmas to all & hope you had as much fun as we did. We were fortunate enough to be invited up to Frenchs Beach (near Ingham - 1&1/2hrs north & spend the day & night there so no driving. Lots of great food, with great company (the usual suspects) & fun games of croquet & quoits, and out there disco dancing, hysterical! So the saga of the anchor winch continues, as the new motor was a dud & so now waiting for FedEx to return to work & deliver part motor to replace the dud section which has been in Sydney for 9 days now, so needless to say we have not been able to take boat out. I got a present sent from Denmark- Europe in less time & still waiting for a present from Victoria, all order on the same day, very poor. I'm not sure what will happen with this "yit" website if it will continue to work as there is no 2023 across the top, I'm hoping if you click on "All" (after 2022) it will allow you to view it, if you view on a mobile turn phone sideways. This site closed down 2 years ago & I've been allowed to continue to use it, if it no longer works I will have to find another way perhaps a facebook page, so maybe google Double Bubble for entry after New Years day, if nothing appears on Yit.nz, stay safe have a great New Year, cheers Kath

Apologies for delay, I do try to keep it to f/nightly updates whilst in marinas. So today is the big day, finally the motor & reversing solenoid for the anchor winch has arrived & Rod has been flat out wiring, cutting holes, running new wires, (so it can be dropped remotely) painting the locker, cleaning & painting anchor winch unit etc & now we will put up a shade cover to install unit back in it's hole on deck. I've done nothing but sit in front of a sewing machine making effectively 20 bean bag cushions, 10 finished products & now moving on to 3 dresses for a friend. We also dressed the boat with 1500 fairy lights, a gift from a friend (he wants an outboard cover made) ready for marina christmas party.
Looks like a fun Xmas Day

So I can't see the wind speed/direction or the barometer reading as I've been in Brisbane since the 14th Nov, doing my annual slave fest for my friend Michelle, woo hoo, digging in the dirt, where it's been quite cool..(16deg min) so use to FNQ weather. Poor skipper suffering & waking in a sweat at 4am with A/C pump dying, so drama involved there, stay tuned. Well update, at airport now, thankfully Skipper has received new pump for A/C so boat will be nice & cool for my arrival. The motor for the anchor winch was irrepairable so awaiting new motor from NZ. Rod has been keeping up with our friends in the marina, with a nice bbq enjoyed.

We certainly have been busy, me slaving away on the sewing machine & making a constant mess, I should point out, all this sewing is on a $139 Elna, not a Sailrite Sewing machine. Skipper has made even more changes (read more expense) changing the saltwater feeding impellor pump for the generator over to a 240v driven NO impellor pump, we think that it will fix the problem of a dry start up on the impellor, thus splitting them (see 14/8/22). Sanded & re-varnished cockpit table & the big job, removed our awesome, "strong as" anchor winch, located some new bushes, pulled it apart, given it a clean & taken the motor to an auto electrician to hopefully work his magic for approx $250, so seriously fingers crossed!

So a current update has had us catch up with some friends & get on to our job list. So skipper has upgraded our solar panel to a 400 watt, which put in 29 amps on start up (more than the existing 3 we had all together), so now we're getting 50 amps in total, we assume we can then keep our wine fridge going whilst underway, not necessarily for wine! I have just completed a 90% UV block out shade screen that we can keep up whilst underway, shading cockpit whilst still being able to handle/access mainsheet traveller. So it's now onto additional rain covers at sides (over side entries) completely protecting open cockpit when it rains, of which we had 2 days of, quite pleasant.

Well thats it, we've both cracked it (along with everyone else) how BOM can get it so wrong, weather not going to improve so we've bashed our way across the sea & come into our berth a couple of weeks early & get set for cyclone season.

Worst trip this year BOM says 10 knot E, try 20+ knots SE on the nose, washing machine seas, awful! We have anchored back at Bolger Bay, Maggie Island besides our marina neighbours Sailaway. We had little choice but to go today as it's going to blow incessantly for another week, need to get away from mangroves, full moon tomorrow!

We have started our run back to Townsville by departing Haycock Island, Hinchinbrook Channel at 6am arriving at Orpheous Island 10.30am, we will stay here for the night on 1 of 2 mooring buoys and then back to Maggie tomorrow. It is a really pretty prehistoric type place Hinchinbrook but man the bugs, so by the time I finished making 14 screens & perfected the enclosure for the cockpit all hatches have been closed as we have actually been getting rain, something we've seen very little of!

So after a lovely sleep, skipper actually got a coffee in bed (rare event) & upon alighting got tripped up in the sheet, fell & smacked his head & shoulder on the bedsit so expecting great bruises! We went for dinghy ride ashore, albeit wary, absolutely no swimming, theres a caged camping area set up there with bbq, showers & water (you have to treat it first), got some great pics! With another blow expected this week we have returned to Haycock Island, midway down the channel saw a hundred "alien" bugs come out of the gaps in the portico, gross, sprayed madly. Thinking of skippers mum today, RIP Coral 5yrs.

We have left Gayundah (still bugs/midges galore, but much better than on a full moon) & twaddled on up to the top of the channel ( past Cardwell) & gone right, around to Missionary Bay atop of Hinchinbrook Island, quite a pleasant trip, lovely breeze & a couple of good looking beaches which will have to wait until tomorrow as we arrived here near on 2pm & we need to make some water & get organised for a roast for tea & hot showers, oh, finally finished cockpit screen, yay!

We left from Haycock Is. & went on up the channel to check out other anchorages, went up passed Gayundah creek (eaten there in 2020- full moon) to suss out "Boat Passage" looks good & deep enough just not enough "swinging" room, ideal if you're 30', so turned around & we are now anchored in Gayundah Creek. Still sewing screens!

Having departed Orpheus Island we've lined up the lead light & gone over the shallow bank along side the longest jetty in the southern hemisphere, traversed the channel & dropped anchor at Haycock Island in Hinchinbrook Channel, it is really quite beautiful, somewhat prehistoric, much like the oversized bugs, march flys etc! I've commenced fortifying Bubble & have been busily making more screens, just put our large back mozzie screen on, which still needs a few reno's from last trip! Much excitement instantly as skipper spots a crocodile dragging/being dragged by a runaway crab pot, called over some locals, croc dragged himself up onto the island & pot now floating in channel, great!! Trying to get someones attention to retrieve pot so as not wrapping itself around a prop!

We left Bolger Bay at 8:30 & arrived at Hazard Bay, Orpheus Island 14:30 (we came here the 1st time, near on exactly 2 years ago 25/9/20)! Aim to catch the tide in the morning into Hinchinbrook Channel (near Lucinda).

After a very busy day for us both, skipper giving Bubble a scrub & a bubble bath, I've cleaned, washed etc & grabbed a few more stores, we have departed the marina & come back to Bolger Bay of Maggie to stay in range for a signal to watch the Grand Final.

Left Horseshoe Bay came straight over into the marina, fuelled up, gas refilled, loads of washing, shopping, now sitting with Lisa, yay! We decided to spend an extra day as we had a lot to do

With a change in wind direction we have up anchored & come down to Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island (Maggie)! We got to blow kisses & give a wave to "Big Mama" Lisa out on a charter heading to Picnic Bay, can't wait to catch up & may go into the Breakwater for one night soon to re-load etc & perhaps catch up then. We're thinking about visiting Hinchinbrook channel again soon so we will stock up.

We have moved on past Townsvilles port & continued up along Magnetic islands west coast up to Bolger Bay & despite all weather maps saying wind to be in a NE direction it's a NW onshore!!! I've been wanting to stay here often but am concerned about midges now, we shall see.
As a postscript; fire up mozzie coils @ 4pm & burn whiite sage incense, no bites!!!

Up at 5am this morning, (just got to sleep at 4) and after 69nm, averaging 7kn we have chosen to drop anchor in Cleveland Bay for the night. We are 2hrs out from Picnic Bay, Magnetic Island & 3 1/2hrs out of Townsville and preferred to get settled in daylight & decide options in the morning, probably into Breakwater, Townsville grab more fuel & maybe go around Maggie Island as we've not been across the top!

Ann came and met us in the marina, very kindly drove us to the shops, droppped us back for a few chores, clean fridge & oven etc, fill up with some water then she came back to show us their new home & catch up with John, & we hope his health continues to improve (a lovely couple) nearly 2years to the date that we last saw then. We departed at 6.15 (goody), love being up early, not! So on an average of 6 knots we moseyed along for 7& a bit hours & dropped anchor in Shark Bay, Cape Upstart (think Home Hill, just below Ayr)! Few more beach shacks since we were here before, about 10 boats.

Just coming up to the entrance beacons to Bowen Marina (as opposed to anchoring) so we can have a catch up with John & Anne, get a few things & head to Townsville (Magnetic Island), Sunday. Lovely trip up, lots of coral spawn on the top of the water. Bowen marina is not up to the usual standard, we had to move berths as a broken off weathered wooden mooring pole nearly pierced port aft hull, they've put plastic tubs around some of them, which don't really help, it's mostly for fishermen & the Far Nth Cruising Yacht Club has no room at the inn.

It has blown 20knots continually whilst at Airlie, we had our final catch up with Duet & other friends who all departed to different destinations down south. So as Duet left a few hours later Martica May arrived (our marina neighbours from Townsville, Mick & Marta so with a great catch up I preceded to spend the next three days making curtains for their saloon, now with that job done & a northerly approaching, we have parted ways, with them heading south (along with hundreds of others) we have come back up to Woodwark Bay (sth of Double Bay, just 2hrs up from Airlie) to wait out this blow & prepare for the northern trip to Queens Bay, Bowen, fitting as we have woken this morning to hear of the Queen's passing, very sad.

11 days later it has stopped blowing 20+ knots for a few hours so we have made our escape from Double Bay back to Airlie Beach for a final catch up with Duet a re-stock of everything and we are out of here, you get 2-3 days (if your lucky) then 10 days of rubbish, over & over since May, with another La Nina coming we have decided to take our chances with a cyclone up north as opposed to down south. We have had the whale & calf at the entrance the whole time just hanging out, very cute & 1 seagull hell bent on living on port pulpit!

We have left Airlie Beach & come north up to Double Bay, with only 1 other boat in here (in our spot), as we came around the corner a mum whale & her calf were splashing about at the entrance, unfortunately we'd already gone passed before skipper spotted them so not the best photo! We have a week of wind heading our way hence the move to tuck in here & just hang out.

We've arrived back in Airlie Beach to drop off Michelle after a fun filled time at Macona Inlet with it's 5 different beaches. Joined up again with Duet for super fun filled time on the beach playing Boccie and back to Double Bubble for curry feast for skippers birthday, Nigel making curried cauliflower & Michelle making 2 curries, slaving away, much mirth & merriment was had by all....very quiet the following day!

Better late than never, we moved back to Airlie Beach (PROSERPINE ish area) after catching up with Stewie at Cid Harbour and so after collecting our special cargo, best friend ever Michelle, we've moved back to Macona Inlet. We've had fun times with Nige & Kez off Duet in Airlie & will meet up again possibly tomorrow, got a great fireworks display last night for Race week, lots of yachties everywhere, and now anchored near Tip Er Ova & Liquid Insanity, (great name)!

After a couple of stunning days enjoyed at Macona Inlet, lots of little beaches, heaps of turtles, still can't get the shot, lots of fish, none caught though (if only it could be like that all the time), but alas the wind is returning for another few days so we have up anchored and are heading back to Cid Harbour - WHITSUNDAY ISLAND, where we know Bubble sits comfortably in 20/25kn SE.
Looks like good mud crab

After a fun few days we have left Airlie & currently underway to Macona Inlet- HOOK ISLAND, as we've not been in here where not sure about signal (I hope so we play today), poor husband may have to send modem up the mast, anyway I thought I would update now just in case. Met up with "Tip Er Over" enroute & there telling us of lots of whales about so, luckily skippers not seen them! So all things anchor winch, thought we'd dodged a bullet as Rod replaced the solenoid in the switch box, sounded good, woo hoo, lifted anchor this morning, still dodgy, so it looks like $1000 for replacement motor which will then have to be altered to fit, or $7000 for a new winch & the footprint will be totally different, both coming from NZ, then that means going into a marina $200 a night in Airlie so...stay tune on that issue. Had a fun night last night at bbq on the beach, met some new boaties & finally met up with "RodKat" a boat that was anchored beside us in Raby Bay at the start of CoVid, nice, fun people!

After a cruddy trip back to Airlie Beach going around the corner from Woodwark Bay (10-15 knots, NOT, more than 25kn) we have finally settled amongst the other 80 odd boats here getting ready for next blow from the north, thats it, thats all it does, blows, blows & then blows some more, had to come back for mail & possible catch up with some special friends arriving soon! Still having issues with anchor winch, looking more like motor than switch, of course, parts not available, will have to see what clever skipper comes up with!

Status update, the wind has finally eased up so we departed Airlie Beach at 10am, with it's horrible, rolly anchorage and have come around into calm Woodwark Bay 2 1/2hrs later, lovely. We will spend the next few days here for exploring & testing new Celfi Go signal booster, seems pretty good already, was lots of fun trying to solder antenna wire outside in the wind (& no, you would have to completely pull cable through boat). We had issues again with anchor winch today, we've already replaced the deck switch once, skipper has now cleverly made up a remote hand switch to ascertain if problem is switch or winch motor (more expense)! We will hang here for a few days or so, Daystar is here & Duet will join us on Monday, before we head back around for mail.

After a not particulary nice trip we have moved back to Airlie Beach to gather up more supplies before hiding from next blow. People that cruise around here yearly have all said they've never seen this much wind & awful weather, still despite being cold it's definitely warmer here than down south. Rod did a trip over to Hamilton Island on Duet to help Nigel collect Kerry from the airport, says we won't be taking Bubble in there, plus it's $200 a night! We had a bakers dozen of mega expensive boats (1 carried 40,000 litres of fuel) worth multi millions, looked like a city at night!
Lovely pics, herbs, and cross

We have left Bauer Bay & charter boat loons & moved over to Cid Harbour - WHITSUNDAY ISLAND (early I might add) to wait out this next blow, can't recall how good internet was so posting now.
Catch up here every so often

An update purely to upload some pretty cool vista shot's, (especially since I had to endure nature walks) again!!! So minding our own business, doing stuff, I'm down stairs & hear a voice, see hands holding the boat through the open hatch & Rods yakking to someone, tis only one of his best mates from primary school, seriously, dropped his anchor in front of us! I had lots of dealings with his adorable dad Norm & mum Jan through Quins & Searles.

Well just like that the switch was flicked, the rain stopped, the fog lifted & hello blue skies & sunshine, yay! Should not complain as the entire east coast gets hammered again & goodness me did it get a bit chilly, we had to locate, trackies & jumpers, socks & slippies for 15 degree days in the Whitsundays. So with the sun out everyone made mad dashes into town (18 tenders tied up when we arrived), laundromat totally chockers, grab more stores & watch all the boat take off in different directions, Double Bubble dropping anchor in Bauer Bay - SOUTH MOLLE ISLAND, Duet having departing earlier in the day (a 2hour trip here from Airlie Beach. Got a few different jobs done with skipper replacing griller hob he raided from a stove in Breakwater Marina.

Little update, so firstly found a dentist with the lovely Taylor doing a great repair job & didn't cost a fortune, hurrah! We're still waiting for 1 more big blow, expected tomorrow (todays was a bit of a blow out) & then we'll up anchor later in the week, to an, as yet, undetermined destination. Been fairly blowy & rolly here, we thought about moving but we can dinghy in & walk up the hill to the shops, & catch the bus to Bunnings, where we're going tomorrow (yay)! We've also had a few bbq's ashore & catch up's & sundowners & a lovely meal aboard Duet last night.

After a few catch ups w/ Duet & Daystar & a bush trek across the island (nature argh) we have moved on from Happy Bay, Long Island & have returned to Airlie Beach where Te Poe Rava & "M" are, as well as P&O's Pacific Explorer & the HMAS Shepparton. Unfortunately I thought we'd enjoy a fantail on the trip & lost half my filling so now I have to locate a dentist in Airlie, just great!!!

HAPPY BAY - LONG ISLAND (SHUTE HARBOUR ish)! Again with the early morning wake up & so we have now rocked & rolled & washing machined our way across "Three Fathom Patch" & anchored in a lovely little bay having left Gulnare Inlet can't say we'll be going back there, very wind on tide & it's still blowing, see how we go here. Blue bayou playing.

WHITSUNDAY ISLAND - Updating now as we traverse Hunt Channel (talk about Unpleasant channel) as we will be turning off into Gulnare Inlet & not sure about signal, seas very choppy & blah! We had a lovely night aboard Duet, meeting their friends Andrew & Anna, also met ""M" & Tracey & John, great fun night, all of us moving now to snug anchorages for next blow, Duet dropping friends off at Hamilton Island & will join us in Gulnare, just have to watch out for the dangerous reefs on entry.

Well quite obviously I'm still having issues with certain people understanding I'm retired, seriously, happily sleeping & made to get up at 6AM, honestly!, so here we are now at Cid Harbour after awful trip across "Unsafe Passage", I kid you not, crappy trip. Anyway Skipper foolishly about to show his prowess & do a 4 hour turnaround trek up the Whitsunday Peak, me I'm going back to sleep!!

Update, sorry for delay, but Double bay is a far better anchorage than Woodwark bay and we have now moved back to Airlie Beach & caught up with Tip er ova!

We have left Double Bay anchorage & come back down an hour south to Woodwark Bay (just up from Airlie Beach). Woodwark is where the tele series by Jack London, "Tales of the South Seas" was filmed in the 1990's, we've yet to explore. Skipper says he read it's $14,000 for min 3 nights to stay in Paradise Cove Villa's the resort here!! Das Almos & Plan B are both at anchor here too. Despite the promise of gaining better reception it appears to be worse, Skipper having to put the router up the mast (already missed the footy), now I'm going to miss JB & Billy on the radio! Whipped up a nice batch of pikelets for brekky today, haven't had them in years. Still not strong enough to upload photo's. Must add it's been really cold like 16 deg at night, not use to this, I vote going back north, had to put heater on.
If they did do it on purpose

DOUBLE BAY - After a lovely evening aboard Duet for dinner we have parted ways with them heading down to Hamilton Island to collect friends, a $200 overnight cost in the marina. We have opted to come back to this lovely bay, all tucked in by ourselves & wait out the forthcoming blow! Rod spotted his first boat "Opal", 35' Duncannson, sans mast, a triple planked oregon (she could be getting sand/varnish job), no-one aboard. She was built by our friend & riggers dad Barry Quin, he sailed her up the east coast of Tassy & up to Qld - Runaway bay.

AIRLIE BEACH - We decided to leave Whitsunday Island at 10am & come up & over to Airlie for a few supplies before moving tomorrow for a more protected anchorage from the South Easterlies that are going to blow for the next week. Yesterday we had pretty much the whole anchorage at Sawmill to ourselves and it was the 252nd year anniversary on the day 04/06/2022 of Capt Cook being there! Oh and as a "by the by", worldwide 10 people DIE from shark attacks compared to 150 dying from falling coconuts annually! Going to have to watch where I walk on the islands now!!!

SAWMILL BAY - WHITSUNDAY ISLAND, 10nm off Airlie Beach. With the wind changing direction we have moved down to the next bay offering a bit better protection, it's nearly 2 years since we were here last that was on the skippers 60th bday. We had Duet over for a "Rod's roast" last night, they have gone out to the reef today, only 8 moorings there, & with the wind blowing up it will reduce visibility, so we've opted to give it a miss this time.

Had sundowners last night with Kerri & Phil in the beautiful Double Bay, very serene. We departed for Whitsunday Island this morning to finally catch up with Duet's Nigel & Kerry who we've not seen for 6mths, anchored in pretty Mays Bay.

DOUBLE BAY EAST - 10kn North of Airlie Beach, next bay south of Earlando. After a less than comfortable night at Gloucester we departed at 7am through the Gloucester passage and out into the Whitsundays group anchoring here in Double bay for the next blow, signal a bit "iffy" again, trying to watch the footy yesterday was a bit tricky but at least we won, yay! We have just been joined by "Te Poa Ovre" & we will hang here until Wednesday. Beautiful blue water here, yet still can't swim, stupid sharks, skipper says no getting on paddleboard either! Got a few more nice photo's.

ECO RESORT - Gloucester Island, (off BOWEN) have arrived safely, beautiful day, Bubble got a bit of a "giddy up" there for a bit, (naturally weather not as presented)! 12 knots on the nose, then 20+ from behind! Tried vinegar as a mosi deterent on my skin last night, seemed to work, (still had mosi coil & citronella lamp going)didn't stop a 3" locust scare me in the cockpit! Have set up our remote control candles in the saloon, fairy lights in cockpit & back deck, & my pretty in the saloon, no power drain necessary (& looks pretty)! We're off through the Passage tomorrow a shortcut & will anchor at Double Bay (above Airlie, off Grassy Island)!.

Avg: 6.3knts
24hr: 151.4nm
CAPE UPSTART - Rough parallel to Ayr - travelled 67nm. We have anchored right on sunset (& another pearler sunset I might add)! Wind started out at 6-7kn petered out to between 2.6 & 1.4 knots, still we managed roughly 6 nautical miles per hour (6nm p/h)! Just a few beach shacks here, very protected. Off in the morning to Gloucester Island (think Bowen)!
Hi guys found yit see you

And we're off, finally leaving Townsville & Maggie Island behind us as we travel south enroute to The Whitsundays, may go through to Cape Upstart or anchor at Bowling Green for the night, yet to be determined! Had a bbq on the beach with Phil & Kerri - Te Poa Ova with yet another awesome sky show sunset & had Mick kindly drive us around the island for some more fuel & a few more stores, nearly $7.00 for a continental cucumber, so not having that. And a big Happy birthday to you Garry!

Sorry update, after a fun meet & visit with our new neighbours the previous night we left Town at 7.30am back to Maggie Is at 9.30 & dropped anchor. After all the rushing about the previous couple of days the skipper had a day off & we went ashore in the afternoon & caught up with our old neighbour Mick from Marjoriemay (he has the singing dog Wally)! Watch the sky go through some amazing colour changes & came home in the dinghy in the darkness with our fab new sensor light working a treat! We find out this morning that there's been 5 sightings of a crocodile here near where you put the dinghies on the beach so hmm!

So quick update, after a lovely night at anchor (our 1st in awhile), we put bubble through her paces & fired up the desal unit & as half secretly expected, once under pressure 1 of the plastic fittings cracked & 2 others showed signs of splitting we came back into the maintenance berth in the marina on Sunday in search of parts. It is not feasable to go through & change all plastic fittings over to stainless because it entails the breakdown & complete removal of the unit so until it becomes necessary we will just change over as required. Coming back in did gives us a chance to catch up with some other friends we missed saying goodbye to, so now clever skipper has had a big day, driving around, getting parts & has now fixed the desal, so we try "take 3" in the morning!

So with much happiness to be heading out cruising again, yet sadness saying bye bye to friends & no more puppy dog kisses we have commenced our journey & gone over to Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island & anchored for the night, so with a win for the Power & Chicken & veg roasting in the oven, we will decide if we stay a few more days here or head down to Bowling green enroute to the Whitsundays tomorrow.

It's 1 year today, since my little medi vac chopper ride off Fitzroy Island & being Friday 13th we are holding off until tomorrow to depart the marina & hang off Maggie Island for a few days, check everythings working, predominantly desal unit, (not making water in the marina). It's bittersweet leaving as we have met some truly lovely people, & made some great friends who have supported us through medical drama's, loning cars, boosting morales & having great fun times with! We have just had 2 boats from our marina in Adelaide arrive here at the Breakwater marina & I must add that the staff here are also fabulous so as the season changes & the cruising begins, it's "take two" for us with hopefully no more issues!

Well finally we are back in the water, back at the marina for the proverbial clean up. Rod pretty much did everything himself & in record time as I did the hospital thing again & as is typical it commenced raining (200mm overnight) right when we were about to antifoul & continued raining for the next week at one point even blowing whole steel ladders through the yard, it was a bit blowy!! Anyway back safe & ready to make a decision on our travel plans we think we will start with the John Brewer Reef.

I'm excited on so many levels, we are out of the marina (yay), we are finally on the slip (poo, but yay) & not long before we get back out on the water, hooray! So we were going up last week, night before we were due to go travel lift hydraulics died, ergo slip cancelled. Blew up to 23 knots as skipper was steering Bubble into the slip pen & he did a great job getting it in there, so with the help of Alan & Tyler we held her straight whilst she was lifted, several hours later she was propped in place. Boat in good condition with just a few barnacles, the midgies are flourishing here & just love eating us, so let the fun commence!

We should be in the slings right now, as the plan was to slip the boat today however there is a rather narly little whirlygig spinning up offshore so we have chosen to delay being on the hard, just in case it grows into a late cyclone, besides can't do much in the rain! Oh and yes, it's an annual thing slipping the boat, cleaning her bottom, checking the legs for any water, putting on new antifoul & anodes, so annually means, it happens every year, normally around my birthday! We have not yet decided where we will go (4 weeks to go) but think we will probably head south aim for the Whitsundays & meet up with Duet's Nigel & Kerri. We caught up with our Collingwood mate from Bundy for the footy & have been hanging out with friends on the marina, a few other things happening and have our 3rd open on the townhouse this weekend.

We arrived back in Townsville this Friday gone, the temperature is now quite lovely as opposed to stinking hot here & a tad chilly (socks, jumpers, & beanie) in Adelaide when we left. We've both been rather flat & 'fluey' so skipper has just done a test to rule out CoVid, all good, just flu. The townhouse has just listed today and looks quite lovely after our hard work. It's 3 years today since we first departed Adelaide and it's certainly not quite how we planned it! El Nino had a bit more in her than expected with storm & tempest, then a world wide CoVid epidemic wreaking havoc. So now, as we fast approach end of cyclone season and prepare to finally get moving we have Russia and it's ensuing global havoc! We have not decided what we're doing or where we're going, so we'll watch weather, slip Bubble & give her a fresh lick of paint & fuel up (at what price remains to be seen) and hopefully not have to do the "Waterworld" thing anytime soon! ps Happy 94th Birthday Aunty Kath xx

I'm writing this whilst sitting at Palermo's Restaurant in North Haven, South Australia waiting to surprise my old boss for brekky today. Prior to our departure to Adelaide we spent an arvo with Helen & Mark Quin (Rod's mate from his youth) who just happened to be staying at Magnetic Island & then had a final catch up with Tess & Ziggy before we flew down to the cold & they departed Townsville in Perlargic for Jervois Bay NSW. We are staying on our friend Terrys boat for a week whilst we prepare our townhouse for sale, catch up with a few friends & avoid the humidity in Townsville with the ridiculous weather system that's happening, non stop rain down along the south east coast. We fly back Friday when it will hopefully be cooler.

So we had a lovely catch up with Georgia & Aayden & then with Michelle staying for a night, then she was off to Tully for a week whilst Kerry got into full party planning for my 60th, then unfortunately she had to go to Brisbane & Michelle returned to take over the job of personal assistant for the big day. So as well as some beautiful flowers I received some stunning Royal Doulton crystal tea light holders, & a set of 3 wax USB charged candles among other gifts. The marina staff decked out the J to L letterbox surrounded with balloons & a card inside, very kind. So up the top to the bbq area with Michelle & Rod (the engineer) to construct the champagne fountain, a fabulous success with only 2 breaks out of 35 glasses! A great afternoon, evening was had by all!

So after the initial lightning & thunder storm that Georgia & Aayden flew in on last week (which thankfully cooled the town down) the weather came good so we managed to get away yesterday to come over & anchor at Picnic Bay, Magnet Island for the night. We had a bus ride around the island for the kids to have a look see, & a swim inside the stinger nets back to the boat for a lovely bbq tea! We now have fairy lights permanently up around the verandah & inside the saloon so not much drawing of power, I managed to find myself a perfect birthday present at Kuranda and add to the fabulous light display with a multi coloured rotating squid light, awesome. The kids last night tonight with them leaving tomorrow & Michelle arriving in the evening, so it will be a quick cabin turn over!
G’day you two, think about

With the arrival of Georgia & Aayden we have secured a rental car & driven up to Cairns & wandered through the Kuranda Markets then drove down to Palm Cove for tea & then off for the night at Micky's motel. Departed Micky & Sues driving through the Atherton Tablelands & had a lovely time in the Innot hot springs, a series of 5 pools, travelling through Ravenshoe the highest town in Queensland we visited Lake Barrine & copious waterfalls, 1 being the longest drop in the country -Wallamans falls. Next day a few more falls & finally got to Paronella Park, awesome! Working our way back to Townsville via Paluma & Little Crystal Creek, chalking up 1350km.

Ater having had visitors for a huge roast last night that the skipper whipped up, I'm enjoying a lazy Sunday arvo, whilst Rod is back to the A/C, checking, clearing hoses etc. Not a great deal happening at present, although we have had a great deal of rain (380mm overnight) & a extremely wet Australia day bbq with friends, just the usual maintenance jobs as we await imminent arrival of Rod's daughter & her beau on Thursday, we hope to be able to hire a car & do a bit of driving as weather not looking entirely conducive to sailing but waterfalls should be awesome. Still plodding along with Dr's, with one op down & appears to have helped with pain, we shall see.

Finally, we have a cool sea breeze as disgustingly hot @ 39 deg 67 humidity a couple of hours ago with skipper head first in cupboards fixing/clearing saltwater intake on air-conditioner, of all the days & additional sadness as my inflatable pool/bath split one of it's seams, new one on order! We have had lots of get togethers, walks to the rockpool for a swim & even enjoyed a picnic there for Kerri's birthday. Had a lovely bbq up top with Ziggy & Tess, & Phil & Kerri last night, with discussions on what our next moves are after cyclone season. Our friends on Duet chose to go down south instead of suffering the heat here & have now endured lightning strikes, rain, hail & strong winds & not long since received a Tsunami warning! We're still dealing w/ Dr's & hospitals appts hopefully that saga will be over soon.

Well Christmas has come & gone for another year. We had a fun night at the marina Christmas party, even taking out the "fairy light" competition (there's a story there) & a fun day at the orphans Christmas lunch at Alan & Michelle's house. We are now kicking back waiting, watching as the weather has finally broken & the rain has come as a maybe cyclone continues to brew, typical as I just got my bath blown up. We've had a few catch ups with friends & a get together with Pat & Pete from Sailaway our neighbours from the marina last year.

Current update, we have a strong wind warning here in Townsville as the rest of the east coast continues getting smashed, bit of a curly brew going on in the Coral Sea but I think that will bypass us. We have stripped & sanded the cockpit area & re-oiled with it coming up a treat! Have made new friends & had a couple of get togethers', much quieter here this year & definitely not as oppressively hot so that's a bonus. We celebrate my friend Michelle & say cheers to her new hip!
Just been catching up on all

Nearly 3 weeks later I have returned to Townsville, flying through the massive easterly rain front, the clouds were crazy amazing, thick as, just a tad bumpy! Skipper finished helping out friends who showed their appreciation with a lovely new helm seat & pedestal for Double Bubble, the base is a bit smaller so he needed to do a bit of reno work to teak floor & we order in a new "folding" footrest. I have left Shell's garden, looking a lot fuller, thanks to good old Bunnings, (about 5 trips)

Well little update, as Rod helps several people onslip, sanding, polishing & propspeeding, we had a catch up with "The Starship" & "Das Almos", & had a great night with Duet & Michelle & Alan from "Dream Magic". I did what little I could without pain & instead have taken to the skies to fly down to Brisbane to help my friend with "her" garden & have a bit of time out to see if I can ditch the pain pre Dec Dr's appointment.

Well that's it folks, due to my health issues we didn't get to do what we wanted & sail up as far as we'd planned but it is what it is & we have still managed to have some really great times with lovely friends so now after having a couple of lovely days splashing about in the warm waters of Picnic Bay & having catch ups with friends on various boats we followed Das Alma's Kev & Helsy over to Townsville, where they have gone up on the slip, we have Starship friends James & CC already on the slip needing a bit of a hand, & Duet going up next week needing a bit of help so with a southerly blow coming we have gone into the marina for the 6mth penance (we can still come out, have day/weekend trips just need to secure pen) so covers are on, ceiling fan up in cockpit (what a find) & a/c's on!

Boats have come & gone whilst we on Double Bubble have chosen to stay a little longer prolonging the inevitable marina return for cyclone season next week, so we were lucky enough to catch up with friends for tea with Liberty VII. So with the storm now south of us we have left Orpheus Island at 6am and come down to Magnetic Island dropping anchor at 14:30pm in Picnic Bay joining up with Duets - Nigel & Kerry & Bec & Andy from Bonafide.

We had an early departure at 6am from Macushla Bay & just picked up a mooring at Orpheus Island to sit out the expected 25 knot northerly this afternoon & tomorrow. All alone at present although Duet expected shortly, winds already cranking up a notch.

We departed Mourilyan Harbour 6.45am & dropped anchor just atop of "Bugsville - aka Hinchinbrook Island" in Missionary Bay - Mucushla Bay 2pm. We will spend the night here & wait to see what the winds & storms are doing before deciding to go back out & around on the outside of the island or through the Hinchinbrook Channel where I was eaten alive last time, unfortunately we're coming up on a full moon when the bugs are at their hungriest, bummer, hopefully we'll stay outside!

Don't faint but we actually got to have a lovely quiet sail today on our way down to Mourilyan Harbour, it certainly has been awhile! There's the usual strong wind warnings for much of the east coast for the majority of next week & thunder is currently rumbling in the background, the wet season is coming in early so we are pushing ourselves further south, closer to Townsville.

We left Port Douglas at 0730 heading south with a "predicted" 10-15 kn NE behind us! We had planned to go out to the reef & "don" our new mask & snorkel at Vlasoff Reef but alas the wind turned to 20 knots SE on the nose for the 8 hours we needed to return to were all the trouble began 5 months ago, when I had a date with a medi-vac chopper at Fitzroy Island. So we are now anchored along with "Duet" and off for sundowners!

After a couple of catch up's with Duet's Nigel & Kerry, we have both done a quick double back to Port Douglas marina for 2 nights as a northerly is hanging around & it just seemed easier to whip in here, get 2nd jab here instead of Townsville, dump rubbish, grab a couple of new sets of snorkels & mask's as ours were just not sealing. We are also using the time to have a catch up with Jancy (Michelle sister) before heading back out tomorrow

This is certainly the spot, absolutely clear blue waters, palm trees & big reef fish (which of course you can't catch) & apparently just as good as Lizard Island & considering there were about 60 boats up there & we had this place pretty much to ourselves today (excepting a visit from Border Police, doing a great job) & only 1 tourist boat this morning, it's been super. We did a dinghy ride & walk around the island, which is quite hard the sand is super dense & had a lovely splash around with reef tip sharks & turtles (so hard to get a photo, got 2 in the frame but dodgy)! Our cheery tomatoes are just now ripening & appears to be a bumper crop, no birds stealing them here, although we do have stupid Sooty Terns moving in at night pooping everywhere, noisy buggers! A great bonus is our friends on Duet are doing an overnighter tonight (we were supposed to meet them at Lizard Is with beer & Champas) to catch up with us before we go down south to Double Island. Pretty special conditions!

We have left the marina with clever skipper successfully removing the exhaust manifold, acid soaked, clean out salt water deposits, re-paint & re-fit, bravo! After much debate & only 3 weeks left before cyclone season begins we have 2 choices rush up the 100 nautical miles to Lizard Island (3/4days) spend a few days & then wait for a northerly to blow us back down & if northerlies don't come, punch head on into 20 knot southerlies to get back to Townsville or we're maybe thinking Newport & do the Raby Bay shuffle over christmas & see how I do away from the 70 percent plus humidity which is no good for COPD. With all that in mind we have decided to spend the last few weeks actually getting out to some reefs & get some snorkelling, swimming & relaxing in so we have returned to Low Island & get in another swim before deciding where next to go.

So sorry, so yes arrived into Port Douglas & all tied up by 10.15am, picked up our tags & walked around marina strand, not a patch on what it was in it's hey day, 25 years ago when I first came here. It's a Saturday, a long weekend & barely a soul abounds but hey, works for us! Rather a tad warm upon arrival so went about dropping covers, super quick, setting up shades etc, works like a treat! Well a couple of strawberry daiquiri's enjoyed and we mossied on up the creek looking for crocodiles in Liberty's metal tender, not doing it in our rubber duck & spotted 2 crocodiles just hanging out. It is certainly a safe place (bar the crocs) to tie up in the creek in cyclone season as was spotted with several vessel's already tied up to the mangroves in preparation, staking their claim! Plan on fish & chips for tea, check engine tomorrow, hopefully out of here Mon/Tues to meet up with each of our friends ahead of us soon.

And we're off, went ashore for a splash & a walkabout around the lighthouse yesterday, with an unexpected visit from Liberty II coming over in their tender from Port Douglas we had a really enjoyable afternoon picnic under the cabana, quite lovely. Now with an expected 20 knot northerlie wind change this afternoon & for the next couple of days & no protective anchorages we have decided to nip into Port Douglas marina & hang out for a bit (neither thrilled about it) on the upside we're going exploring with Darren & Tracey up the channel today, once anchored. Slight heating stbd issue skipper can do a little inspect on whilst we're there.

Finally free from the tethers of a marina, we left through drizzly skies & washing machine seas, unimpressed, to picking up a free mooring 5 hours later at Low Isles in blue calm seas & sunny blue skies. Already seen a Lemon shark & 2 big yellow & black reef fish, yay! Skipper has decreed a sore throat so has cracked a beer & I fully intend to crack the champas in a bit, hooray.

Hang on to your hats folks we are finally getting out of here, woo ho! Bubble is fully stocked, (we could go for months) which is kind of the plan, certainly, preparatory for Darwin next year. Unfortunately for us it has ended up being 2 weeks shy of FIVE MONTHS in the marina but it is quite a pretty spot, so could've been a lot worse. The weather is going to be perfect for the reef but there is a little northerly coming to cause a ripple so we are still debating our destination, we will head out in the morning & see what the winds may blow!

We, along with all the other boats here & in Trinity Inlet are getting quite excited as the weather is finally showing signs of abating so that we can leave & head north hopefully at least getting to Lizard Island although I would like to get to the top & perhaps meet up with Duet as they make their way back from their Kimberley trip. We have had our friends on Liberty VII join us in the marina yesterday, not seen them since our time at The Boatworks Christmas 2019, & had a great catch up. We had our first jab of Pfizer on Sat with some lovely people Rod helped kindly giving us a lift there & back, we have to be back here for Nov 8 for op for me & 2nd jab for us both, here or Townsville.

Well hallelujah, we're back! We were terribly disappointed in not being able to update the site (mostly it's a really quick way for me to find out where we've been & upload photo's). So amazingly one month from last update & four months on the 13th since we arrived in Cairns, & I stopped smoking. My health saga continues & I'm still undergoing copious amounts of tests & no closer to stopping the constant pain. As much as it's delayed us from heading north we are not alone in that all marina's are full due to the unbelievable weather everyone is either hiding from, or complaining about as they're getting blown about on anchor in 35 knot plus winds as the southerlies are relentless & still show no signs of abating well into the end of next week, so here we sit. Skipper is upgrading his Flight Simulator, happily spending his days flying airplanes, whilst I am back on the sewing machine making new outfits for the wet season, (light & airy), doing a few jigsaws, trying to take it easy & not hiking pain levels up!

Well here we sit, waiting, always waiting for something, parts, mail, weather or as it is these days, all things Co-vid which has caught up with us here in FNQ & we are in our 2nd only lockdown so we really can't complain. All the boats that are wanting to go north are all either crammed in at Trinity Inlet or tied up in marina's waiting for the weather to improve, it has been wet, a tad chilly & rather blowy. We've had fun nights, with Micky & Suzy out at Palm Cove where the shops & restaurants are built around the Paperbark Melaleuca trees, some 400 years old, & also enjoyed dinners with Rog & Jan from Opportunity who are like us waiting for the weather, parts & mail, could be worse, large stink boat on fire in the Breakwater marina where we were for 6 months!

2nd ACNES Injection done & I am now on my 4th day pain free, woo hoo! We've been out & about with lots of bus/cab trips & discovered a very helpful chap called Henk at Pasma Electrical who talked Rod through an upgrade of the firm ware when he swapped out our 13 year old Victron Invertor (we've been carrying a spare for 12mths). We have had lots of fun with several catch ups with friends, some we met in Townsville, going on a dinghy ride around to Yorkey's Knob Yacht Club for $1 oysters & $15 buckets of prawns & trying out Dragonfruit martini's & strawberry daiquiri's! We also had friends drive up from Adelaide in their camper van, all enjoying another super fun night at the Bluewater Bar & Grill where we were joined again with Michelle & her sister Jancy, rounding off the night with Pina Colada's. (A bit of a tip, for clear pictures you do need to tap on pictures).

We've been quite the little gadabout's of late, having just returned home from a stay in Cairns catching up with my dearest friend & birthday girl Michelle, enjoying a lovely lunch out & evening in with Moet. We caught the train down to Townsville the previous weekend catching up with some other friends whilst Rod went to check out a boat for future employment prospects, we also caught up with some other friends staying in their lovely home in Kuranda for the night, all very nice! We are now staying here until the 2nd August with 1 more injection to be had & hopefully medicine & health issues finally sorted so we can be on our way, fingers crossed.

Initially after parts for the desalinator & none being available Rod located a new pump to do the job & all up & running ok. He has since found replacement seals etc for old pump so now have a back up. With health issues causing further delays in our heading north, & only 4 months left until cyclone season again we are currently being torn in 2 directions & contemplating returning to Townsville for "White boat" position & writing off the current sailing season!

Well after copious poking & prodding, hospitals & Dr's I've finally been given the tick of approval to undo the ropes & get going! So whilst we've been waiting for appointments skippers been going over everything that is coming of age, ergo everything that was put on new 13 yrs ago & wanting/needing to be replaced now, we thought all was good but have now discovered the salt water feed pump on the desalinator has a dodgy seal & has started leaking into the motor, with a little drip, drip, drip! The plan was to leave at the end of the week but now we have to wait for a new pump to arrive before we can get going, so here's hoping nothing else is on it's way out.

Well after getting CT scan etc we have had to stay longer & wait for a hospital procedure on Tuesday & then still wait for Dr's verdict next Saturday which adds to the pain, just hoping we will be good to go on up to Port Douglas after that. After I posted the photo of Rod & I, Maureen sent two photo's of her & Bob & Shjerk & his wife, previous owners, it's kind of like a 20 year anniversary of owners, from when she was first launched in 1991.

I have confessed to more health issues, & am currently sitting in the Emergency dept, waiting for a resolution before we are able to resume our travels, not that that will be happening at present as the wind just keeps blowing full on out at sea. So with it looking like at least another week before we can head off we have kept our little "Leo Getz" & done a bit of "touristing", up to Port Douglas & surrounds, been through the Botanic Gardens & spent another night with our friends, ending up at the casino with lucky husband winning $142, which paid for our expensive dinner & night out!

Quick update, I have seen a specialist here in Cairns, had a few more tests done & will see him again on Thurs, hopefully for the all clear, so we can be on our way. We caught up with our friends from Adelaide who run a motel here, (it is through Micky that we met 23 years ago). We had a nice trip with them to Ellis Beach & $1 oysters & also spent a night with them at the motel. We hired a "Rent A Bomb" for the week, now increased to 2 weeks, the car we initially hire died on the very 1st day! Prior to Garrys departure we got out to see a few sights, up to Kuranda, out to Baron Falls & the Crystal Cascade, very pretty. Poor skipper has to top up the esky himself now Garry has gone. We've had friends from Townsville arrive (2 boats) & have had a catch up at the hotel here at the marina.

Not exactly how we foresaw our arrival into Cairns, but we are here now, nonetheless! Skipper & temporary 1st mate Garry brought Double Bubble over on a 4 hour jaunt to Bluewater Marina were we will stay for a week with follow up appointments. The guys picked me up from the hospital where we returned to the boat by bus. Still a bit woozy from drugs etc, but thank you to all concerned for their kindness including brother Garry for his support of my caring husband.

Well that didn't go according to plan. The plan was to go ashore, to the Foxy's Bar on Fitzroy Island, have a look around & some dinner! I didn't last 10 minutes, (couldn't breathe) before I was in with the medics in the resort, a shot of morphine helped & then after lots of questions/concerns I was flewn to Cairns in a Medi Vac Chopper (now there's an experience)! Symptoms a bit CoVid ish, tested for that & all clear.
Well, you know how to give

After much deliberation we chose to go straight through to Fitzroy Island with Rod checking in with medico's via phone along the way, & a gradual improvement in health on my part. We will go in to Cairns in the morning (we are 15nm away) & suss out Dr's. We carry several types of medicines for such events, I just am struggling to get brain to work. There are 4 free moorings here, so no anchoring & nice blue water, we can finally go for a swim or snorkel & I can't breathe!

We had a good bit of rain shower down upon us Sunday, so we were able to fill our water tanks & our new exhaust outlet arrived on Monday & skipper has replaced old for new on the generator. We waited out Tuesday at Dunk Is, as more rain was predicted, so opted for a better sail today & arrived at Mourilyan Harbour. We were going to go straight through to Russell or Fitzroy Island but as I've not been feeling very well, skipper decided to come here as there is access to a Doctor 20mins away, I'll go back to sleep instead.

Just a quick update to mostly share some photo's. We moved over to pick up a mooring when other boat left. We've been ashore for a walk around & seen some of the carnage from Yasi's wake, Dunk Island is still not up & running as a resort destination. Garry paddled to shore & walked up to the lookout. Being that we can't make any water without the generator working, we have been able to use the hot showers in the camping grounds & then caught up with Tramp II on the beach for sundowners. If needed we can carry 40 litres of fresh water back to boat so we can still make ice.

After an absolute star studded night at anchor we have had a quick 3 1/2 hr jaunt up to Dunk Island passed the Family Islands group notably Coombe, Wheeler, Bedarra & Thorpe Island, lovely casual trip, with pretty much no wind, so motored all the way. Skipper got to pass the time by inspecting & solving an issue we had with the generator, turns out the exhaust elbow is corroded (obviously we've not spent enough money yet)! So now we get to sit here & wait for the delivery of the part to Mission Beach & get the water taxi to drop off to us here at Dunk Island, all depends on good old Australia Post, so fingers crossed for expediency, apparently Monday.

We have sailed up the east coast of Hinchinbrook Island (aka bugsville) & anchored in Missionary Bay around the top end for the night passing Eva Island along the way. Very pleasant cruisey day, all set for a bbq tonight. We're off to Dunk Island in the morning.
I thought this had closed

Arrived safely, anchored at Orpheus Island at 3.15pm, cruisey little motor/sail, and picked up 1 of the 4 free moorings & will spend the next 24hrs here.

Well woo hoo the time has finally come & we are ready, fully laden (spent an easy grand on food, barely a waterline visible) as we have don't know when we can get stores past Cairns or costing twice as much! We have had a few trips about town & a bit beyond thanks to the use of The Starships car, got up to Crystal Creek, Paluma, the Ross River Dam & Saunders Beach (my maiden name). We also got up early for the Dawn service, just up top of the marina, a really well done affair. Our plan tomorrow is to head straight up to Orpheus Island & hopefully everyone is on there way back from the long weekend, maybe Zoe Bay, then Dunk Island, we shall see.

Quick update as the 17th has come & gone, our official 6 months in the marina, with us coming in early in November, with our 2 weeks on the slip Breakwater have allowed us another 2 weeks free of charge, this being a good thing with the current strong wind warnings for the next week or so & the amount of money we have spent. Vessel's that have already left including Tramp II & Duet having 30 knots plus & are not happy, we will bide our time. With Garry's help we have achieved a lot more, with new chain, nav lights on Adrian (tender), new clears, locker clean outs etc.I have
made a new cover for our helm seat & am now back on mozzie nets prepping for Hinchinbrook Island & it's bugs!

With our fresh new antifouling job complete (this time stripping back both legs & trying out propspeed instead of hard a/foul). We have now moseyed on back to the marina & been cleaning up the boat. Garry was an exceptional help in his "4th year apprenticeship" of all things slipping, sanding & polishing, & is coming along quite nicely (also saving us both from extra hard yakka)! We met some great people on the slip & had a few good nights (still we all got bitten by the midges). We are now getting our stores sorted for our DEPARTURE onwards & upwards, next stop Cairns, yippee!

Day 7 on the slip, all going well & we have been quite lucky with the wind blowing a cool breeze, keeping midges reasonably at bay. I have discovered a new repellant that seems to work. Take a small bottle of baby oil, pour out 1/4 qrt cup of oil, add 2 tblspn of Dettol & 1 tblspn of citronella oil, shake up & slap on, excellent! We decided to book accomodation & have been staying in a twin apartment, with pool & Foxtel (bring on the footy)! We had a great night with friends who live nearby, staying onboard last night, ready for early start today, getting a tie coat on ready for antifoul later today, hopefully go back in on Tuesday.

So happy days, we have left the marina and had an hour's jaunt around to "woo hoo", the Rosshaven Marina for a slip, which is on the Ross River, so even better, bring on the midges & Dengue fever etc, awesome! So with all things slipping my kind, thoughtful brother has donned a mask & flown 8hrs over from Perth to assist with the antifoul job & cruise on up to Cairns (if he'd like) with us. So with corner rain covers FINALLY finished, quite literally upon his arrival, fabulous light show of lightning & rain overnight & now as we sit ready for the lift at 8am tomorrow, it is now pouring (& all the rain covers are up because we travelled here), gotta love Murphy!

Tonight marks our 2 year departure from Adelaide at midnight and we have come a long way, seen much & missed lots too, thanks to weather, various upgrades on the Bubble & all thing's Covid! I have safely returned from Brissy & almost finished Michelle's/(my) garden, collected more fabric from Quinrig for FINAL rain cover sections. Skipper has been very busy helping others out & completing jobs on our vessel & prepping for annual slipping next week & removal of rubbish antifoul that everyone said we should use up here, goodbye Joton & barnacles, back to Altex for us. So close to finishing rain covers, (which kind of seems ironic, it has hardly ever rained here), wait until we go up on the slip! Finally have my new pool set up, blew up the last one, so happy days!

Had a few issues get onsite, all good now. With 4 months now behind us it's getting closer for our departure north & will go pretty quick with lots more to do. We have completed the helm & console laminating & it looks great, with just 4 pieces to go (2 either side) for total re-laminating. I have finished the edging on our internal cockpit shades, finally & sewing machine away for now! We currently have a potential Cat 3 cyclone hanging around & will hope it stays offshore whilst I go down to Brissy for a week to Shell's, yay! I had a good day for my birthday, with drinks up top before heading to casino for tea with our friends..

Been super busy with all the jobs, skipper has now finished servicing on engines & genny, sorting out spares etc. We have completed 2 more replacement panels in the cockpit, the worse yet to come, helm & console.....all those wires! Enjoyed a bbq up top & an impromptu "private" fireworks display w/ Duet. I have made a couple of outfits in between working on rain covers which have proven themselves as we finally got some decent rain over the marina, still a work in progress & will finally get to finish internal shade cover trims thanks to Quinrig sending up fabric. Commencing the sorting & stocking up stores as few stops between here & Darwin, not too long to go now!
My what a lovely outfit...??

So here we are, halfway through cyclone season, 3 months left before we can continue our travels & at this point we think (with all things Covid) we will stick with our original plan & just keep turning left, heading on up to Darwin. With Tramp II we wandered up to the Queens Garden for the Halo light show which was pretty cool. We had a great Australia day bbq up at the marina & have been super busy, sewing covers, new outfit and renovating, with the help of Sol, replacing all the laminated ceiling panels in the cockpit, looks fabulous!

We had our first serious prep with Cyclone Kimi getting close, taking down covers, securing with additional ropes, removing pot plants etc she was a non event with no wind or rain at all, good practice as we look ahead to something brewing off the coast next week. We have been very busy with changes to the boat Skipper renovating "the shed" (stbd V berth) & I'm still sewing. As yet not made it to Halo light show, (cancelled for Cyclone Kimi) with hopes for the next few days. We had a fun night at the Townsville Yacht Club for Trivia night, catching up with Corroboree's Arlisse & Eric, coming in 3rd! Happy Birthday Ma.

A quick update, it has cooled down considerably with humidity around 50% and the drizzle appears to have ceased (for now). We're keeping an eye on a couple of curly winds off the coast due next week which may form into something, but as yet all good. Skipper had to pull apart pump from the A/C as it started to act up, as he is quite brilliant he repaired it for $17 instead of $300+ for a new one, bravo! We are waiting for the "Halo" light show that starts tonight in Queens Gardens & have been getting a taste of things to come each evening as they set up the lights. Basically we have been cleaning out lockers & rearranging things, & I'm back on changes to rain covers now that it's stopped. Averted tragedy yesterday when my "super specs" (multifocal $600 glasses) went for a dip in the drink with awesome husband hooking them out with a squid jag, first time in 23 years I've dropped something in the water so I consider that not to bad.

Happy New Year, 2 months down & 4 to go before we can move further north & time is wooshing by! We had a great night New Years eve, with drinks up at the marina common room w/ Duet, Tramps, The Starship & others then wandered down to the rocks for a fabulous fireworks display, & back to the Bubble finishing up somewhere around 3am, with a very quiet New Years day. We have had a fair amount of rain, with 1 or 2 great downpours from Cyclone Imogen who fizzled out to sea. No leaks from new windows, however 1 drip, drip issue from the mast that the skippers solving (& one wet night where 14 hatches were left open overnight - my fault!).

After having had a great Christmas day, & a rainy, restful Boxing day, we then had an impromptu get together on Bubble on the 27th & an incredibly funny time was enjoyed by all. We returned to the marina along with Tramp II yesterday to much cooler conditions as the wet season does it's thing & the rain falls down. Now time to clean up & prepare to do it all over again for New Year's celebrations!

Merry Christmas one & all! We left the marina for Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island yesterday to meet up with Tramp II's Ali & Sol. Went ashore for sundowners on the beach with 5 other couples, which kind of blew out, with strangers presenting us with 2 trays of seafood they couldn't finish, lobster, prawns, crayfish, & bugs. We will be spending the day with the Tramps for Christmas lunch, hoping the 84% humidity will recede! Bring on the rain & FNQ's wet season.

Today is my 20 year anniversary of living aboard, 1st 8 yrs on Avarest & 12 yrs on Double Bubble. Our decision to stay in Townsville for cyclone season instead of Moreton Bay or Gold Coast area....at present, seems to be quite wise given the current weather down south of Qld were they are being hammered 800mm rain, 72kn winds. We've just had the marina party here Friday night where we won 3rd prize in the fairy light competition (finally got to trash a boat with lights everwhere), so with all our sunshades & the cords for lights we have a full on obstacle to exercise on, ha! Rod ended up with an awesome drink receptor from naughty santa for his Margarita's that he has become a fan of. We are as yet undecided about our plans for Christmas as to house sit, go out to the reef or stay in the marina for the Yachties Orphan Party, stay tuned!

Along with Tramps we travelled up to Orpheus Island & took the dinghy over to the Marine Research Centre & had a private tour (we we're advised that the coral spawning was either a non event or they missed it) then went exploring the giant clams & coral reef. It is really quite clear there in the shallows so we were able to have a splash & loll around in the water, temp about 26 deg & no stingers as yet, not until it rains apparently. So after a lovely week with much fun & frivolity we parted ways with "The Tramps" who returned to Maggie Island as we went back into the marina after an 8 hr sail.

Collected Ali & Sol in "Adrian" (our dinghy) & went ashore to explore the Leper Colony that once was here. Incredibly clear water which makes it easier to look out for crocodiles not so great to spot Death Adder's as we wandered through the bush, followed the old path to the other side of the island which is just covered in old broken coral, some really large dead sections on the shore. We had a nice cool splash around & then back to the boats to up anchor & cool sail up to Orpheus Island to explore reef tomorrow.

We have left the marina & had a mostly lovely sail up to Fantome Island a part of the Palm Group of Islands just south of Orpheus Island to meet up with "the Tramps". We plan to both go up tomorrow to Orpheus & hopefully be able to witness some coral spawning either here tonight or tomorrow there under the full moon! We have had a few different adventures whilst in the marina, met a few more couples, having 8 of us out for chinese at The Ville (Townsville Casino) on Friday night & into the markets on Sunday finally buying a new hat. Weather is basically the same every day & less is best in the way of dress although not needing to run a/c as yet, the ice machine is somewhat struggling to keep up!

Have had a few issues logging on so apologies. So good news, the "yit site" will be able to be updated & accessed at least through early into the new year (maybe March)! After booking the car at the marina ($10 for 2hrs) Skipper has been quite busy with the replacement of 2 plastic skin fittings with bronze, also setting up new 4lb nylon anchor with CHAIN (see if that survives coral) I got some more olive clips which are the best thing on a boat used with bungee cord (adjustable). We had our friends over from Duet for a joint curry night onboard Double Bubble & a great night was enjoyed by all. I've since done a bit of gardening at Charlies & have continued on with rain/shade covers & we are now contemplating joining up with "Tramp II" shortly.

Had a fun few days at Horseshoe Bay, met a few more boat owners for sundowners in the park. Had a walk along the bay, check out the shops (not masses) lunch at the fish & chippery. Caught another shark & a double header of dodgy fish onboard so along with Sol we decided to go rock fishing, lost my trace immediately, so we tried our hand at beach fishing, lost another trace, then thought we'd go stooging in the tender, then snagged again this time it's our anchor with the coral making short work of the rode cutting the rope, losing a 4lb sand anchor! Undettered we lured all around the bay, just drifting, still to no avail, so we gave up & called it a day. We decided to drag out the drone yesterday & have some more practice runs on the beach so we pitched our sunshade & along with music, drinks & "The Tramps" we had a fun time trying to land the drone on it's "helipad" (think towel)! Woke this morning to a split skin fitting (plastic) just above waterline so have returned to the marina to get a new one, oh & a new dinghy anchor WITH chain!

After a lovely stop at Picnic Bay we have just moved up to Horeshoe Bay & "The Tramps" have just arrived for a long overdue (2 months) catch up. After a fun afternoon, we dinghied to shore to the local fish & chippery for dinner on the sea shore.

We have escaped the marina this morning for an hour's jaunt to Picnic Bay, Magnetic Island. Finally got in for a swim inside of stinger nets, & leisurely walk passed my favourite house & along jetty where lots of people appeared to be equally unsuccesful at catching a fish, so with rod's baited we will try our hand, stay overnight & move around tomorrow to Horseshoe Bay.

Just a little update, skipper working hard on maintenance jobs & connecting a new cable from our AIS to our repeater GPS screen so we will see how that works tomorrow when we head out to Orpheus Island or Maggie, wind direction to determine anchorage, where we may meet up with "the Tramps". I have been away gardening for a few days, up in Tully with my friend Michelle with a trip up to Mission Beach to suss out stinger nets & anchorages, stopping at lookout over Hinchinbrook Island (Bugsville island)! I have now started our count down on cyclone days, currently 177.

The weather has been too strong for us to sail over to Maggie Island & so we remained in the Duckpond. After the non stop 20-30kn constant winds & our mail waiting for us for 3 weeks at Nelly Bay, Magnetic Island I had a big day out & a trip on the ferry to collect the mail, the trip being rough as, 35kn plus, not pleasant. With no sign of the wind letting up anytime soon we have effectively cracked a sad and gone into The Breakwater Marina ahead of time for the cyclone season (Cat 5 rated for cyclones). There are some pretty impressive GT's (giant trevally) here in the marina, where of course you can't fish! We are super lucky to have several friends here with Charlie taking us out to Hermit Park, for stores, our old house, Rods servo at Shell Belgium Gardens & now a lovely visit with our friend Dave from Shell Hugh St, who arrived with supplies (read Skipper now happy with a beer)!!!

We we're up at 5.30 am and on our way by 6am & after a pleasant motor/sail on quite a lovely day (being entertained by F18's zipping around) we are now back in the duck pond outside of the Breakwater Marina, Townsville, Castle Hill hopefully being our protection through cyclone season. We will gather up supplies tomorrow & head off to Maggie Island Sunday.

Bye bye Hinchinbrook Island, and all of the bugs that hang out there - hello Orpheus Island, lovely clear blue water, happy turtles and no mangroves or midges!

We have finally moved from "bugsville" (think Aliens), Gayundah Channel back down Hinchinbrook channel to anchor overnight at Haycock Island prior to our departure tomorrow to Orpheus Island, assuming winds abate. We have left behind several traces & expensive lures thanks to the mangroves.Cockpit screen almost perfected, only have a few hours to sew daily between onslaught, all mangroves, no beaches, still all good! Have just learnt from our Bowen friends that midges are worse a couple of days either side of a full moon (which of course we've just had).
Happy birthday Aunty!
... oops, just outside the
Aunty just caught up with

We have moved further up the channel to Gayundah Creek where apparently a 4mtr crocodile has been sighted. We have started getting more screens & netting in place to keep out the biting bugs of varying types that exist around here whilst keeping an eye out for sea snakes that can come up the anchor chain, (1 was spotted up on a spreader on someones boat up here, honestly, it never ceases)! We are about 5 miles south of Cardwell.

We went out in the dinghy this morning to explore the coral reefs, not willing to have my bites turn into tropical ulcers we will defer the snorkelling until our return. We then, way sailed over to Lucinda & the entrance to Hinchinbrook channel, it is quite tricky trying to spot the lead light on the 6 mile long loading wharf (predominantly sugar) with the light changing between red, white & green & steer accordingly to maintain a white light leading you in, the shallowest depth on an ever moving sea floor at low tide is 0.7m, so lots of concentration required. We are now up Sunday Creek, were you can apparently catch Barramundi, whilst avoiding the crocodiles that hang out here, can't wait to spot their beady red eyes tonight. This was just a quick overnight anchorage as too far to go up the channel today, obviously not a good choice as midges are PROLIFIC! We have everything burning at the moment & will obviously need to make more screens.

Well we left our anchorage in the duck pond at 6.30 this morning & had a nice cruisey sail through the Halifax Bay Bombing Range, Rattlesnake & Herald Island being dead centre ish up to Orpheus Island dropping anchor at 3pm. There are 4 free moorings here to pick up belonging to the James Cook Research Station & if the others further a field are like this then we're going to need a bigger hook on the boat hook! There is a private resort south of here, disallowing casual visitors & here it is a national park, too windy, too tired to get in dinghy. Hopefully we can see the giant clam 3' squirting at low tide in the morning (google it, it's awesome at Orpheus)! Off to Hinchinbrook Island/Channel in the morning (think Lucinda).

We have had a change of plans as we will be in Townsville for the next 6mths for cyclone season, we have moved over to Townsville's duck pond anchorage & we will whip into town to grab a few supplies before heading on up to Orpheus Island tomorrow & then on up to Hinchinbrook Island for the up coming blow later in the week.

Well yea ha & woo hoo we have finally arrived at Townsville's, Horeshoe Bay, Magnetic Island (Maggie Is). 18 months after we departed from Adelaide we have achieved our main objective from the outset, taking our time along the way, enjoying the journey & leaving the destination to sort itself. We will hang here for a few days prior to heading to Towny!

Left bright an early this morning (5.45am is early) in case we went straight through to Maggie but as the day progressed the wind abated to 3-5kn so we decided to come on into Cape Bowling Green for the night (35nm from Maggie), kick back & tend to the 40 odd midge bites I got from Cape Upstart. We are in a pretty little spot, with long sandy beaches. Reception is reasonable here so should be ok for the game tonight. Oh & now the wind picks up, honestly!

Fairly uneventful cruise up to Cape Upstart past Abbot Point with it's open roaded coal loader, stretching 2.5km out to the ships, handling 50,000,000 tonnes of coal per annum. A fair amount of algae bloom sitting on the water pretty much most of the way here. We will stay here in Shark Bay for the night before departing tomorrow for Cape Bowling Green or go straight through to Magnetic Island.

Wind is finally settling down & we plan to depart in the morning for Cape Upstart (think Ayr) if weather stays as it currently appears! We have enjoyed our time here with various jobs completed & several outings with Ann & John who have taken us to the adorable Walter & Judy's farm w/ tomatoes & capsicum being grown along with hundreds of varieties of hibiscus ( unfortunately very close to pruning time)! They also have an amazing collection of "pretty much everything". It has been a top time in "blowin Bowen" meeting great people at the marina on the same sort of pitstop & tis now time to hopefully make Magnetic Island, Townsville Monday night, perhaps catching up with "the Tramps".

We have met lots of lovely people here in Bowen Marina, all going either north or south and all waiting for the wind to drop from the constant 20-30 knot blow. We ended up with 24 people on our table at the Nth Qld Cruising Yacht Club for tea the other night, a great night had by all. We also had a surprise knock on the boat by the lovely Ann introducing herself as Cam's mum (who travelled on Alcatraz with Sharne see April last year) when we were all stuck in Cleland Bight waiting for weather to pass. Ann & John have given us a tour of Bowen, driving around & even buying us lunch, a lovely couple who we will catch up again with soon. Possible departure mid next week! Click on pic for enlargements!

We enjoyed a lovely lunch with The Tramps at the Eco Resort, topped off with a cocktail each. Back to ready the boat & plot our course to Cape Upstart, hoping to make Magnetic Island by Monday ahead of the coming weeks weather. 2 hours out this morning with the wind upwards of 20knots & having a big bull whale broach directly ahead we decided to go into Bowen Marina and take some time out here instead & let the sea calm down.

We departed Double Bay East & have moved on up & through Gloucester Passage, past Shag Islet (infamous Shaggers Club annual haunt albeit cancelled this year due to Co-vid) & anchored out the front of the Eco Resort on Cape Gloucester just under Gloucester Island where there is currently a "Lagoon" event (a type of catamaran) so lots of boats on mooring bouys here. The wind is just ridiculous & constantly blowing, gusting to 30 plus so will wait to go ashore.

We've left Airlie Beach and moved 2hrs up & around the coast into Double Bay East & anchored for the night to escape the swell from the constant blow that is continuing.

We are still anchored at Airlie Beach & have had a couple of trips into town, collecting mail, restocking our stores, & being blown about. Much fun & frivolity was had catching up with "the Tramps" & additional birthday celebrations & we are now effectively boat bound as the wind generators cranks on up at 30 knots plus. This wind does not look like slowing down anytime soon so our time is spent concentrating on all things insurance & marina berths for all that is required for the cyclone season in Townsville to commence in 8 weeks.

Had a bit of a blowy night last night with a couple of boats dragging right across the inlet amazingly not hitting anyone & ended up on the rocks, re-floated with the tide in the morning, lucky! We have since departed Hook Island this afternoon for a 2 1/2hr sloppy, wind on tide journey part of the way & have now anchored at Airlie Beach ($138.00 for a marina berth for the night) that's not going to happen! Saw a huge Grandpa Groper at anchor in Nara Inlet he was at least 1.5mtr long cruising atop the water clear as a bell, had gloves on cleaning hatch's & missed the shot! We will attempt to retreive our mail from Airlie Beach post office tomorrow (after it got sent to Townsville instead of Mackay) and should be meeting up again with the Tramps.

After the skippers big day for his 60th yesterday we have done a 2 hour jaunt up to Hook Island and into Nara Inlet this morning, it's really quiet here, surrounded by large lush green hills with the occassional bird calling out & soon to be bacon sizzling for breakfast!

Hip hip hooray, we have arrived at The Whitsundays! We have anchored between Cid Island & Whitsunday Islands in Dugong Inlet, stunning day, beautiful clear blue water. Had a great day travelling at 7.5kn average with minimal wind & the tide ebbing north, perfect! So here at anchor we are warned by VMR Radio, people have been taken by sharks...& died. So the saying, "come to beautiful warm Qld, where the water is 24 deg, perfect for swimming", they just don't mention "with crocodiles & sharks for company"...I think not!

We have left Mackay & due to northerlies after a 25nm run, we have decided to anchor on the western side of Newry Island, (think on a parallel with Brampton Island), not too many alternatives with wind direction, plus there's also excellent reception so we can watch the footy. We had the company of 7 whales (that we saw) along the way, having to alter course around them at times. Warnings abound regarding getting in and out of tenders and paddleboarding etc due to apparent favourite habitat of crocodiles here so we have chosen to not go ashore! Tomorrow we plan to slog our way through more northerlies on the nose to Cid Harbour, Whitsunday Islands wohoo!

After the saga that is attaching existing cables with a mouse, removing & measuring old ones (obviously we replaced port & stbd) we were able to get cables delivered in a rush and genius skipper has just replaced & set them up on both engines. We will test drive them in the morning to the fuel berth and back to our berth & plan to leave for Shaw Island on Friday & Whitsunday Islands on Saturday to meet up with Tramp II for skippers 60th birthday on Sunday, with Ali's on Tuesday! However stupid northerlies abound & not to many safe/comfortable northerly anchorages, so here's hoping! Had a great night in the pub with Wayne & his brother Ken & crew, with Ken who was kind enough to take us into town for our supplies & brought us back again.

After a great night watching the Crows lose, we had a cruisy trip up to Mackay as the clouds rolled in with a bit of weather thats heading our way. As Mackay is a major port, (we passed 16 ships lined up to collect their cargo) there are no anchorages, so we are now tied up in the marina where we hope to be able to collect new Morse cables from the chandlery and replace existing broken one (should mention these are the original cables so 28 years old)! Our friend Wayne whom we met in Bundaberg, came in just ahead of us on "Celebrity" into the marina & we had catch up drinks with him before we head off for dinner at the hotel above the marina.
Oh no! I just read about YIT
It looks like you've had a

Just anchored at Curlew Island a part of the Guardfish Cluster after a very pleasant 5hr jaunt past various islands & greeted by lots of butterflies on approach. We can finally put the dinghy in the water and go walking on the beach as we are now free of "the military zone". Met up with Bonafide, Kathamaria & Aquavista on the beach for a natter as the tide went out (forgot wheels for dinghy), luckily there were 4 strong men to carry her back to water, note to self...don't forget dinghy wheels!

Avg: 5.7knts
24hr: 136nm
We have anchored at Hunter Island, rather swelly in parts along the way, tides can be up to 9 metres in spots along this coastline, and are some of the biggest in the country, whilst running in varying directions. Upon anchoring steering cable has broken again so not sure if this is a result of feathering props (a known problem with Yanmars) or the dog clutch, poor skipper back at it after having to change water pump on port engine along the way, not a particularly happy sailor!

Enroute to Hunter Island, eta 1730. I have barely had signal whilst at base of creek (though we got to sort of watch the football albeit moving modem or phone about so I quickly put this update in, just in case it got worse. So just thought I'd mention entry & exit into Island Head creek is a bit full on, use a full tide. It's about 1hr, 20min to bottom of creek with tide working with you.

We had a light sail a few hours up to Island head Creek (think kind of co-eee of Sarina) & waited for a few whales to pass before entry & have travelled down to the end of the creek in a lovely anchorage, assessed only by boat. We have intermittent phone coverage & upon firing up engine to run up fridge the gear selector cable has snapped on the port engine (think no forward or reverse) so skipper once again in the engine room hole, hopefully inventing a solution.
Oh that's not good! Can you

Does not get much better than this today, absolutely perfect, stunning anchorage right at the base of South Arm, Port Clinton, just shy of the boat ramp, just rembember to fire up mosquito coils at 4pm, in case (we only had a few). After what was pretty much our best weekend with perfect conditions, tucked in, catching fish and despite the Power losing, we have now moved back up the South Arm ready for departure to Island Head Creek in the morning...weather dependent.

After after a few days, a lot of wind & rain & interesting people "Kiknbak" with drinks at the Yacht Club, in a very large marina we departed Yeppoon this morning and we are now approaching Port Clinton, & will drop anchor in South Arm, we thought we'd lose coverage whilst there, and was doing a quick update but appears is all good at present. Have signal thanks to military reserve area.

It appears as though a blow is coming that unfortunately, with the swell coming with it makes for an uncomfortable anchorage & no other alternatives within co-eee, so after a lovely walk along Great Keppel Island this morning we have chosen to beat the crowds to a safe berth in Keppel Bay Marina, Yeppoon and wait it out until Friday.

After a stunning starry night under the Milky Way, with Curlews singing we were up at 6am & away by 7am. So we have now successfully traversed "The Narrows", between Curtis Island & the Mainland, via Ramsay's Crossing, with the lowest point of water being 0.5mtr under the keels. We decided to continue straight through to Great Keppel Island and dropped anchor at 2pm with good signal & champagne in hand to finish watching the footy!

We have left Gladstone Marina and anchored under Black Swan Island (not seen any though) beautiful spot so armed with our newly purchased "plastic lures" we will continue in our pursuit of catching actual fish as opposed to sharks and crocodiles (true) not getting on paddleboard here! Tomorrows the day we get to experience "The Narrows", Ramsays Crossing, spit out the other side & off to Great Keppel Islands after that.

All tied up, safe & sound in the Gladstone Marina, for a big Port it is surprising how little vessel activity there is, we have only seen 3 runabouts in 3 days, tis all very civilised.

We have left our lovely little anchorage at Turtle Island (excellent holding, lots of water & protected from most directions), the whole place to ourselves, so after swanning around in the sun doing a whole lot of not very much we have moved over to Witt Island on high tide to anchor overnight pre-departure in the morning to the marina to collect some new impellors for the Yanmar engine (they strip of the spindle, & overheat motor) & a bit more fuel etc.

Departed Bustard Bay at 7.30am & had a cruisee 7-9 knot sail to Gladstone with a few turtles spotted along the way. There are a multitude of anchorages to choose from depending on wind direction so we have opted for NE of Turtle Island & will try our hand at a spot of fishing. We intend to travel up the Narrows via Ramsay Crossing so it looks like Friday will be the earliest to be able to garner the necessary tides flowing half way up, then ebbing out the other end into Keppel Bay. As we are officially in the Great Barrier Reef, we will have to check where & if we can fish first!

Thanks to a friend in Adelaide, we made some new friends in Bundy who were kind enough to loan a car to us for supplies & invited us for a bbq & watch the footy, lovely people & great night. Due to the fog we departed late from Bundaberg for a 10 hr trip to Pancake Creek today, but as the weather was not what it was meant to be (there's a surprise) we were slowed down somewhat so we have decided to anchor in Bustard Bay for the night as the sun sets, just north of Seventeen Seventy & not chance navigating around rocky shoals & entering into the creek in the dark.
Glad you pulled up short of

We have just tied up in the Bundaberg Marina for 2 nights (fingers crossed) as it's pretty hard to get fuel & fill gas bottles etc in Bundy, they have a pick up/drop off into town here or to Burnett Heads which we will do tomorrow whilst it blows 25kn plus from the SE (gusts twice the strength = 50kn, no thanks). Skipper not happy with sugar cane ashes being blown all over boat at anchor yesterday arvo, so is now happily hosing boat down whilst I wash sheets, towels etc in laundry here, quite nice facilities with lovely bbq area where for a $5 donation to local Sea rescue club you get & anchor to put up on the board with vessel name on it.

Have ended up changing my mobile service over so after a few lovely days anchored in the Burnett river, groaning at football, and catching fish (even keeping some whiting, we don't know what the others were so we let them go) we have had to travel another 9 miles upstream to Bundaberg Central to collect the mail (hopefully here today) with my new sim card, Optus only going to get worse. Apparently crocodiles have been sighted here so no paddle boarding for me today!

We have finally gone above 25 degrees South, our stop point until the end of cyclone season (30th April), then along came Co-vid 19 & no travelling, so 2 months later we are anchored up the Burnett River at Burnett Heads, the Port of Bundaberg just across from a field of sugar cane (which I just love)! We don't want to go further up the river to Bundy but rather head back out & further up to Agnes Waters/ Seventeen Seventy, seems to be an issue at present with the channel being silted up at 1770 so we will check up on local knowledge contact prior to making a decision, maybe go into Pancake Creek, rumour has it, quite pretty!

We departed Sth White Cliffs & decided that we should have anchored slightly further north where the wrecked ship & ruined pier is, would have been a more favourable anchorage in the Southerly away from tidal flow (hindsight) & now travelled further along Fraser Island & cut across the top of Big Woody Island (in 20kn winds) & have secured a berth in the Boat Club Marina at Urangan for 1 or 2 nights. Got a lift into town by a lovely couple travelling from the caravan park & so we have done our stores shopping & will collect fuel in the morning before heading on up. (I should mention this the famous Hervey Bay Boat Club where Rod's dog ate the inside of his car, whilst he played pool for shots)!

We have decided to stay here at SW Cliffs another night & bypass Kingfisher resort tomorrow as it's apparently a bit dodgy for holding, also wind on tide is not particularly pleasant at the best of times & appears to be better here than there !?! Have used this time completing covers & watching the footy (didn't want to lose reception) happy days, go "The Power"! Worse places to be & some awesome shots!
Far out you guys are living

Lovey trip travelling through the Great Sandy Straits up to anchor for the night at South West Cliffs, just below Ungowa, Fraser Island on a parallel with Maryborough, Qld (recommended by Gypsy Lover, nice spot John, cheers). I've been making lots of mess in the cockpit since Newport, creating wet weather shades for back sides & back of verandah, whilst skipper is in charge of hunting flathead!

After an incredible, star filled sky under the Milky Way last night, we left Rainbow Beach at 8am & have successfully crossed Wide Bay Bar with under 0.5mtr swell, 15kn winds, the bar itself at 5.6mtr depth & arrived at Fraser Island. We have continued up to Garrys Anchorage & anchored at 1.30pm for the night a touch further north under Dream Island.
Great to see all is well,
After you get in you wonder

We departed Mooloolaba at 8am & have arrived at Double Island Point at 4.30 in very clear water. With a very non eventful cruise with winds swinging between 6-10kn NE to "on the nose", got excited when I saw a "puff" & thought a whale but alas, just a couple of dolphins (they breed them small up here). My tip for the day, amazing what happens when you clean the binocular lenses 😆 So anyway it will be up at 6.30 to go over to the Wide Bay Bar entrance & cross the 4 mile long bar, one of which is called the mad mile, so here's hoping it's happy!

Hip hip hooray, we have left Moreton Bay, back in the Coral Sea & arrived in the Sunshine Coasts' Mooloolaba Marina at 14.30 for the next 2 nights prior to heading up to Hervey Bay. Not a bad trip up despite BOM saying 10kn W, when in reality between 10 - 30k N! The entrance in to the river is a bit tricky & shallows out quite radically (1.3), take the western bank. We've said au revoir to some lovely people at Newport & wish them well in their travels.
Love all your sailing tips.

Well like every other cruiser heading north we are all biding our time w/ jobs onboard waiting for the weather window to progress (currently 38kn at Double Island Point, does not make for a good bar crossing, big swell to be avoided at all cost)! Having spent a couple of days gardening at Shells, & with her assisting, we now have our new window shade cover press studs screwed in as well as the rope bags I whipped up. Skipper has expertly attached dinghy wheels to our tender at rear whilst I spliced up our floating painter on bow, with thanks to our new friends who helped lift "BB" onto marina for the job. We are contemplating heading 6 hours up to Mooloolaba tomorrow, & perhaps the 7.5hrs up to Double Is Point Sunday with the bar crossing on Monday, all dependent on wind, swell & tide!!
Beautiful splicing! And
Hey Chief the new Tender

We have up anchored from Deception Bay, Scarborough (above Brisbane) & motored on up the channel into Newport marina to hide out for a few days & wait for a weather opportunity to progress further north.

We have left Tangalooma, Moreton Island (thank heavens) & gone over to anchor overnight at Deception Bay, Scarborough. Tangalooma is nothing like the pictures you see or on the wall at Boatworks anymore, most ships now almost total ruins offering no protection & awful sloppy/tidal waters especially when combined with all of the ...less than intelligent boat owners (as opposed to saying dickwads)! Tramp II have safely crossed the bar into Hervey Bay.

Avg: 4.9knts
24hr: 117.9nm
Well we have finally made it to the wrecks at Tangalooma, our 2nd time at Moreton Island (last time Feb 21)! Have cracked champagne & we will explore the rusted ships put in place as a buffer from a westerly (unsuccessfully)! Tramp II have decided to continue on up north.

Returned back to Raby Bay to do what we hoped was final stores & fuel up prior to departing either to Mooloolaba or straight through to Hervey Bay (inside of Fraser Island) but the weather has other ideas. Wide Bay bar goes for 4 miles one of which is called the "Mad Mile" with breaks on either side as you cross over, the idea is to wait for calm seas with little to no swell & light winds before you cross, which of course is not the case at the present other than a very small (& rushed) window for Sunday entry which we choose to ignore. Instead we have a fleeting easterly today & tomorrow to finally see the Tangalooma wrecks with departure shortly.

After having had Michelle stay a few days, skipper fitting hydrofoils to "Bigger Bit" (or BB for short) the adjustment of davit system to 2:1 pulley's, & version 18 of bow roller complete we now have the exceptional news that Qld has been opened earlier than June 12th & we are now finally able to proceed north (weather dependent, of course). Happy days, & now with today being the commencement of "Sol fest", (Sol's birthday on Tramp II) things are looking up as we have returned to Macleay Island for the next little blow & get to listen to the "Curlew's" nightsong once more!

After a fun night aboard Tramp II for dinner we left Macleay Island today to return to Raby Bay with "the Tramps" to collect new smaller fuel tank for our tender, a couple of AUS Charts we neglected to get previously along w/ various other bits & pieces, t'was quite a lovely little jaunt over with the sun shining brightly.

We left Raby Bay for Macleay Island yesterday to rendezvous finally w/ "the Tramps" after their jaunt on the slip. So with a catch up for morning tea the day spiralled into the wee small hours of this morning, with a great day had by all, & a little seedier today!! All sorts of cruddy weather abound at present & we are unable to progress north until the 12th June (without the possibility of being fined or turned back) so we will probably aim towards the Brisbane river some time next week where we are now allowed to go onshore to the gardens/shops etc.

Sorry folks, slight technical hitch with yit, but seems all good now. We have been get quite busy as we wait for the wind to change, pre our departure northward bound. We have purchased a nearly new Mercury 4 stroke 8hp outboard (thank you Bruce for delivering to VMR Raby Baby) & setting onboard. Next day back to collect brand new AB 9AL dinghy then attempt to winch outboard onto dinghy (had all the elements for a youtube disaster landing in the drink so we enlisted help from nearby Promise II & successfully achieved touchdown onto tender. Next day off to the beach with "little bit" our old tender, to send her off with her new owner Sarah in the back of her dads Corolla!

Been over at Raby Bay for the last week to collect various packages being sent, including window covers. Have just returned to Macleay Island for the expected northerly blow today/tonight & return to Raby tomorrow for appt on Monday. Skipper has been very busy perfecting bow roller system & installing new salt water deck wash pump we had sent in (no more fresh water wasted hosing off chain here at Macleay). He's changed over the pressure release valve on the hot water service & replaced the water Desalinator gauge, whilst finding time to catch a stingray (still no fish to eat)!

We have spent the last week or so going from Peel Island over to Raby Bay (for mail etc) back to Peel & now back at Macleay Island awaiting possible hail storm tonight. Today marks the end date for travelling north with Topsail Insurance & cyclone season so we are now effectively free to start cruising up towards The Whitsundays etc. Now all we need is for the Qld Medical Assoc to free up travel with all things Covid 19, possibly May 19th, here's hoping!

Perfectly lovely past couple of days, great anchorage, all to ourselves, unfortunately it takes near on 1/2 hr to pull up chain & hose down, metre by metre, as it's chokkers with thick mud! We only have a fresh water hose for cleaning down chain (& we we're coming here to make more clean water) so we used all of that, fired up the genny once we arrived back at Peel Island, started up watermaker, turned on ice machine, ran for 20mins then sucked up a pile of weed from s/fitting to 90% bend, so woo hoo. When you consider we've lost our entire paravane, (something big got that), then squid jag went flying, & lost & have caught lots of only just undersize squires (baby snapper) that we had to throw back, skipper not liking today terribly much.

Motored over to Macleay Island for protection from the upcoming 20+ overnight Sou Westerly, seems to be a turtle playground, very still at present, the calm before the storm.

Departed Newport marina at 8am arriving at 1pm Peel Island for upcoming NW winds, roughly 50 boats by end of day, at least we can still go to shore here and walk on the beach. We will depart Saturday noon for Macklay Island for the South westerly. It appears as though we are now forced to stay in the Moreton Bay area until travel restrictions are lifted so no moseying on up to Hervey Bay at present!

We departed Raby Bay 8.30am this morning & arrived at Newport Marina 13.15pm, with barely a 5kn breeze. We have come to collect our new invertor, end to end chain, tighten up our new trampoline, a few more odd jobs & gather up supplies over the next few days. All is well.

Motored from Horeshoe Bay, Peel Island over to Deanbilla, North Stradbroke Is, for 2 nights then back over yesterday to Raby Bay, Cleveland to collect a few more stores whilst we wait out this next little weather cycle as the seasons change & we ready ourselves to begin the course further north!

We have moved back over to Peel Island for the upcoming Northerly & now that all recreational boating has been ceased, there are but 4 boats here. We have just a few more weeks to go hiding out in Moreton Bay before proceeding north post cyclone season & have confirmed with Qld Safety Authority & the Health dept that we are currently able to do so. Just had a visit from Border Patrol who have confirmed we can exercise waliking on the beach & have a wee dip!

We have travelled across the bay (dodging ferries) and away from the crowd at Peel Island (30+ boats), and over to Deanbilla (2 boats)! We will hang here for a few days with our own private beach & await the next blow!

We've finally had a change in wind direction and have up anchored (with our new homemade bow roller working beautifully) & meandered over to Peel Island along with approximately 30 other boats with the same idea. We'll hang here for a couple of days, with walks on the beach, whilst maintaining our distance!

Still at anchor at Raby Bay, waiting for this little blow to pass & should be on our way somwhere new tomorrow as the weather dictates. This will give us the opportuniy to try out Version 4 of Rod's home made bow roller and see if it works. Pretty much all the boats that were here when we arrived are still here waiting for the weather to change. Skippers suceeded in catching snapper (squire), big fat catfish & a couple of 2 foot Hammerhead sharks all released. We have warily gone ashore for more stores & are quite disconcerted with all thats going on in the world. A very good analogy was put to me, that it's like Mother nature has sent us all to our rooms to have a good hard think about ourselves & the world! Very scary stuff!

It's exactly 1 year ago today, since we departed North Haven, SA at 00:01 17/01/2019 & despite all that is going on in the world, all is good here on Double Bubble. We finally ventured into town today in the dinghy as Cyclone Gretel had moved on & calm was being restored only to find the unrest going on "out there", (we left SA with 76 rolls of toilet paper back then & everyone laughed, now we actually need to re-stock, good luck with that)! Seems on our return Gretel decided to come back & we got a little wet in the dinghy as winds increased. Rod has completed his experimental bow roller set up & we will get to test it maybe later in the week...if this blow ever stops! Oh & Happy St Patrick's day!

Still no change in weather conditions with winds increasing to 35kn+ tomorrow, been pretty constant 20 knots for the past week, with showers on & off & will continue for the next week at least. Raby Bay is a good anchorage with strong holding so will just ride it out here for another week & work on rain covers for back deck.
Thanks Kath, my room is

With yet another change in wind direction & not too many protected anchorages in a South Easterly, with access to shops (& shore) we have moved back over to Raby Bay, Cleveland. We are going to be getting 20-30+knots of wind for at least the next 10 days so will ride it out here, keeping an eye on a possible cyclone brewing enroute towards Townsville. I will continue to spend my time chasing Daddy long legs that I have missed from the onslaught from The Boatworks that ultimately have continued to breed, whilst skipper flies his Flight Sim!

Chane in wind direction so up anchored from Dulwich after a quick jaunt into town, (given a lift by a lovely chap & his beautiful puppy), and a short trip over to Peel Island at midday to wait out the wind & make some water (400 litres in 3 hours).

Having collected our post, re-stocked with fuel & food, Alcatrac & the Tramps joined us for the same & we all toddled off together to Myora on Nth Straddie, dropped anchor & then changed our mind as there was nowhere to get off so went down to Dunwich to anchor. Have spent a few days with chores, making flyscreens (mosi's), made Sue a dress, skipper did some fishing & today 3rd March) we all took to shore for a big day out, bus trip to Point Lockout, Nth Stradbroke Island, hot chips, ice creams & great swim at the beach, fun day.

Have had a great, past few days, with get togethers & a long walk along the beach, through what appears to be a Stingray, Shovel nosed Skate & puffer fish nursery! It's not a particularly comfortable anchorage at Sandhills in a Southerly so we have left our friends & come over to Raby Bay (not a very nice trip, I should add) to collect a new thermostat for the fridge (which of course now appears to be working just fine)! It's exactly 1 year ago today that we first met Alcatraz on the slip in Adelaide.

After having all met up on Alcatraz on the 19th for a bbq & excellent lightning show, we had a day of chill waiting for the weather to mosey on down to Tangalooma Sth for my birthday & after a bit of a lumpy trip we had an excellent afternoon - evening onboard Double Bubble & a fab day had by all. We have now up anchored & moved further down to Sand Hills as a bit too tidal & swelly where we were.

Departed Newport @ 7.30 arrived at Bongaree, Bribie Island 10.30 w/ Tramp II, waiting on Alcatraz to join us. Tangalooma, Moreton Island is an easterly anchorage and with the current northerly no good for today, so will chill out here & enjoy the peace.

We have accomplished quite a bit in the last few days as planned, with Skipper completely re-doing the companion way (think hallway into Saloon) something we've wanted for a very long time & had hoped to achieve at The Boatworks! Been great having "the Tramps" within co-eee & catching up w/ Gypsy Lover John once again allowing us both the use of his car, very kind. We are now prepping/re-loading our vessels ready for departure on Wed to Tangalooma to meet up w/ "the Thieves" ergo Alcatraz ready to celebrate my birthday swimming & snorkelling w/ the turtles and having some very much needed rest & relaxation, yay!

Having all met up on Alcatraz on the 19th with bbq & incredible lightning show across the skies we all had a day of chill waiting for weather to move on down to Tangalooma Sth for my birthday & after a bumby trip there, we all enjoyed an excellent afternoon/evening & a great night had by all, cheers!

Had a great night onboard Alcatraz Sunday, with return dinner Monday night on Double Bubble & a great catch up. With the approaching Cyclone we decided Tuesday to mosey on up to Newport marina & finalise some jobs onboard & catch up with the "Tramps", we were greeted by Mandy & Paul, Ali & Sol & John who helped tie up as the skipper skillfully got pulled into last spot in the marina between to commercial whale watching vessels. We all went over to the BBQ area for drinks & a gasbag & a great evening.
Must feel like coming home to

After travelling on through Moreton bay we are now anchored at Dunwich and just seen the arrival of Alcatraz to join us for a long overdue catch up. It was the 18th Aug, (Ali's bday Tramp II) last we've seen them. Just need the rain to stop for dinghy ride over!

After saying our goodbyes to all at the yard we have finally departed from Coomera & travelled 20 nm upstream towards Moreton Bay having to anchor for the night due to non stop rain & poor visibility. There is so much rubbish, logs, branches etc floating along that we would prefer not to hit & take out a prop!! At last we're free!
She looks great guys... well

Well woo hoo & "whoopty doo" finally ready to leave in the morning, 102 days later! 1st little man did a fab job on welding our gooseneck unfortunately welds brought tangs in too tight so had to find 2nd little man to adjust "uni joint", took all week! Now painted, greased, in place & working, with mainsail rolled up on boom & boom bag & lazyjacks in place. Massive weather system with lots of rain passing overhead & NO leaky windows - hooray! So we will depart back down the Coomera river & start making our way up north through The Broadwater to join up 1st with Alcatraz & then the "Tramps" yay.

All went according to plan, 25 mins from lift in the shed to drop in the water, hang around for crane at midday with Col - Quinrig doing an awesome job stepping mast in 35 mins & all new rigging & furler attached by 3pm in stinking hot temperature, then we uncovered a problem! Luckily (& I use the term loosely) we discovered 2 cracks in the gooseneck in the boom furler which connects to the mast (think universal joint). Imagine sail up, under load, & it breaks, it could've have taken off your head or smashed in the cockpit roof so have spent all day trying to come up with a solution, find a replacement part which are long since discontinued or find a little man to fix it, weld cast iron!! so we think we may have had a win, stay tuned!
Well that’s uncanny timing

Well that's it folks, we're done, 7.30am in the drink, 12pm for mast, let there be no kibosh on it! Michelle has come down bringing her awesome curry, to feed us & to assist with the stepping of the mast. The boom & furler being lifted this morning with the help of Jess & his mates, thank you. We had a great catch up with Liberty II, Darren & Tracey over the weekend & met up with Bruce from Astrid who we met through mutual friends on Australia day in Adelaide exactly 1 year ago to the day, amazing things happen!! Here's hoping we're floating..ha!
WOW!! Congratulations Rod

Had a lovely visit with Pa albeit too hot for him in the end with temp 28% & 84% humidity @ 21.31pm. We also had a return visit from 2nd cousin Kelly & a nice reprieve from work. The new trampoline is finished (my fingers will never recover I'm sure) & the final bastion on a slip has been reached with primer, tie coat & antifoul finished, props & anodes in place, all she needs now is propspeed painted on & we're good to go. The new furler has arrived & Col & Rod spent the day putting that together & connecting up all the stays "for deployment" when the mast goes in. Due to the long weekend it currently looks like Wed next week we finally get back in the water & the mast to go in an hour later, here's hoping!

Hallelujah, our girl is finally painted with non skid on deck (13th) so off to Tweed Heads for the night to see Aunty Eva & her kin, lovely, lovely people & a great night was had in NSW! So back to the boat in the morning to unwrap our girl which took all day, celebrating with champagne & bubble bath under the boat. We are now having our windows coved & setting up for our new trampoline, with our rigger Col- Quinrig ( our friend coming to set up the 29yr old Profurl thankfully discovering furler ready to die in months (which it seems parts are no longer able to be replaced) ergo $3600 for new furler! On a good note however I drove back to NSW today & collected Pa from the Coolangatta airport & he will be staying with us for a few days!
Well done all who have
Wow, DB is looking very flash

After 68 days in the shed we've reached the summit, Double Bubble has been hand sanded, hand washed, the shed cleared & hosed out & DB wrapped AGAIN & for the final time (locked in, with no hatch access, getting good at this). We are prepped & ready for the non skid paint to be sprayed on, assuming there's no rain in the morning (too much moisture in the air makes the paint de-laminate).! So with a bit of luck Aunty here we come for an overnight visit. Oh and apparently, red, is oh so nineties!

Monday saw the return of the Boatworks tradies & opening of The Galley for food & ice from Christmas break, much has been achieved. The hull has been sanded & wet rubbed ready for a few fills, primer & prep coat for different (warm water temperature) antifoul. Masking up of the boat has nearly been completed, working out the rounds & lay of non skid is time consuming & complicated. Lifelines are tied on & ferrules covered with amalgamating tape. The dolphin striker timbers are now coated (4) in DWD as is the repairs to winch & block bases (when you remove masking tape sometimes the coatings are damaged). So we wait now for Choice Stainless to measure & whip up inner railings for new trampoline hopefully today.

Well Happy New Year all, after approximately $1200 worth of Fixtech's been used the windows are now finally in & absolute huge thank you to Ally & Sol aka "The Tramps" for arriving in time as our spirits were waning & helping us to get them completed, as well as the deck & window hatches, painted. As usual we have had a couple of great days/nights together, & lots of fun & fireworks were had last night. Next we move onto antifoul whilst windows set for 7-10 days, pre having final coving applied.
Happy New Year to you both ?

Had Kelly, Rod's 2nd cousin come for a visit yesterday, was nice to catch up. 2nd lot of windows went in on starboard side tops & aft, lowers & windscreens to go. So the process is paint area black between the windows that are being joined. Put the foam tape in place & put tape around the internal position of windows to mark area, remove the windows again & sand the area for the silicon to go on. Put windows back on with spacers, line up & hold in place & then secure with timber wedges glued onto tape on the surrounding area & put in timber supports at ends. Keep in shade for 7 days. On a brighter note we are expecting a visit from "The Tramps" who we've not seen now for months (was going to be the end of October) looking forward to catching up & having a bit of a break.
She’s going to look different

Well Christmas has come & gone and we're still plodding along. Now have everything back in place on deck, funny how nothing wants to go in easily though! Pulled off all the corflute around the cockpit, no more tiny little entrance & don't feel quite so trapped anymore. Today the corflute is being pulled off the windows cut outs & the new windows are going in, so great to be able to pull off yet more tape, start cleaning up inside & return to normality after nearly 8 weeks. Had slight delay with trip to the Dr's for some antibiotics, I managed to get Cellulitis in my big toe from the non drinkable water with all it's amoeba's & bacteria swimming around, so explains why my toe has been numb for 5 weeks, who knew!!
I can feel you breathing

Rods just finished replacing poly in 1 cabin hatch, 1 to go, just handrails to go on now & we get to mask up all over again, must be on our 100th roll of tape by now, fingers calloused just from tearing off tape! Tip for anyone doing this it's 4 times harder to remove tape after it's had a spray job, than removing & replacing it. Removed all tape from around track & rails for trampoline. Cracked a sad Saturday & pulled out our inflatable bath, bubbles galore, wonderful change. We're so close but we will be looking at water probably around the 11th (7 days for stupid windows, min 5 days deck), will it ever end)!!
I agree with Maureen - you
Wow! Today I got photos AND
Wow, DB is looking very sexy!

We are starting to get back that which looks like a boat. All hatches, lockers & lazarettes are in (although slight closing issue on fwd laz) which we figured, Rod will sort it. 1 pulpit & 2 sets of staunchions to go, then tie up & tape, tomorrow. Black paint for under the joined windows are painted & all windows are here (bit of a hiccup there, stay tuned)! Bedroom hatches yet to be done, more Sika (Rod's & Sika do not play nicely together). Mast steps are on, exit blocks in, radome on, lights partially wired/tested. Handrails sanded (more hand sanding), scrubbed clean & ready for painting. Christmas closure for most Companies here including the Chandlery & The Galley for food so have to make sure we have all we need. Made use of corflute & tape so we now have a Christmas tree & discovered a message Garry left for when we were pulling up yet more masking, well done, good chuckle in the conditions he knows we're working in, thank you, cheers.

Well today is the 17th of Dec, the 6th week, the date we were booked in for & hopefully completed. Thats not happening anytime soon, we are effectively waiting for paint to dry & doing jigsaw puzzles with all the bits & pieces that need to be put back on, matching up w/ their little bags of pk's, m/threads, nuts & bolts. Nearly finished cleaning/polishing staunchions, pushpits & pulpits to go on tomorrow & start masking up borders around everything, prepping for more sanding (yippee), ready for non-skid paint. The paint is too green for windows to go in now, won't be until the 27th! Rod's started putting in exit blocks & locating wires for lights. Windows are cut & we had poly carb for hatches delivered (not drilled) so add to the list (the drill holes are for the press studs the shade covers go on). I'm currently equating this job of ours with us being on the last 200mtrs of a 1000mtr marathon. Not broken us as yet, but a few melt downs have ensued!

Rod returned to boat at 5am (Zac's team (Spraytech were busy painting, starting at 4 am), then breaked 10 mins later after Rod arrived finishing 2nd coat, all finished by 8.15 this morning. Mast looks sensational (well done moi), deck has a few issues, Zac I'm sure will attend to on Monday. Wed/Thurs for non-skid, windows Thurs/ Friday. Next finish polishing up pushpits/pulpits & staunchions, get them prepped to bed down on deck, then mark out & mask up & woo hoo, more sanding for non-skid, ain't life grand! This is a big job we've undertaken & we're hanging in there, just have moments of argh!!! Neither of us have ever worked harder in our lives pulling 18hr days, tis ridiculous! She's however look pretty shiny!

At Coomera Motor Inn now, tired & greatly disappointed. Thursday was a no go with painting as not enough hours in the day to wet wipe, hose down, re-tape etc, etc, especially after Rod whilst blowing off boat went straight through the hatch, (dettol wash, ice in clean rag & taped up with "cheap" masking tape), rather colourful bruising to follow. Re- booked room for tonight as spraying was happening today, then just as they got to the boat the pitter patter happened, then all out torrential rain, humidity to high & paint job would de-laminate so now they're going to spray at 4AM tomorrow (we hope & whilst we're blissfully sleeping in motel). Puts everything back as non- skid paint won't go on until probably Tuesday now. Windows have to go in Friday so who knows if that will all happen as Jessie (& everyone else goes on holidays on the 20th) 😟

5th week in shed today, not painting now until Thursday, chasing pin hole "fairies" ergo more sanding! Ripping off all tape & plastic & re-masking. Rod cut off trampoline today much easier to mask up, new one on it's way and we now have a 20' container to put everything in (that was fun) so we can have an empty, dust free shed. Hatches are completely sanded & taken to spray booth in Jessies cart, basically boom, furler & esky left in shed. Will be another late night.

Just finished sanding, for the night!!! Getting very close to no more hand sanding at least. 50 litres of high build epoxy primer went on (4 coats), think we've sanded 25 litres off, fingers are kaput! Mast is finished, deck pretty much done, 4 little lockers &1 hatch to go, can't do anymore tonight. Rod just mentioned antifoul, geez we have to sand that too, heavens, might hire a little man for that. So mast steps are polished & painted, screws are nearly cleaned & sorted, buying replacements for all that are flat head screws. So the plan is (unless our sadistic painter tells us to do more sanding), we will finish tomorrow, hose down inside the shed, re-tape dodgy bits, cover everything downstairs, blast off, wipe down in fresh water, tack off & spray the topcoat (woo hoo) just the gloss surrounds on Tuesday, then wait for it, more sanding & masking up for non-skid paint possibly Friday ......will wait with baited breath. Huge thank you to Glen & Leonie for putting us up for the night at Surfers Paradise, wonderful respite, great sleep, no schwarf!

Day 35, bit of a daunting day with so much to do, on top of all the sanding yet to be done. When we booked into The Boatworks Alana asked how long are you planning to be up, I shrugged & told her the work we planned to do so she booked us in (lock up) for 6 weeks thus it became the 16th December, the date to "aspire to". Well that's just never goimg to happen now & we will most certainly be on the hard for Christmas (plan on making a Christmas tree out of all the Corflute & masking tape (we have 5 colours) because we're going to have to re-tape again so just add fairy lights, wo lah pretty! So we have achieved a fair amount & asked for some help tomorrow to move things along. Also working my way through polishing the 32 mast steps & masking those up as we're going to give them a spray job too (can't have dodgy looking steps with bright shiny new mast - not after all this hand sanding).

4th week in shed today, the nightmare continues, but we CAN see the light! After sanding all weekend, getting everything up & covered completely, vacuum deck, cabin top etc & blow off boat, repair tapes & hose down shed (finished at midnight). We finally got boat primed on Monday, (that is after we had to re-vacuum, wipe down everything including mast & 10 hatch covers/lazarette with a damp cloth & then with tack cloths), t'was exhausting! Also had to get bags packed for overnight stay in CLEAN hotel room with bath (had 3 of them), was a lovely evening. Came back to nightmare this morning where they promptly covered the boat with a guide coat (think black soot)! We get to sand that off now, no chance that will be finished by Friday for Topcoat so there goes our weekend, but still we are getting closer.

To quote Garry, "Groundhog day", more sanding, who doesn't love hand sanding a 15mtr boat & 16.5mtr mast!!! Still not perfect, so no priming now until Monday, gives us all weekend to sand, bye bye weekend in hotel w/ spa & massage. Today was the day to remove our cabin hatches, no more fresh air, upon removal, decided to add to the job by removing the acyrlic more scraping of Sika, woo hoo, poor little fingers. Window templates are now made up & get cut along with replacements for hatches.

Day 22, The guys are still hard at it, with lots of hand sanding, more bogging, priming & sanding, the daily merry go round for them! I have now acid washed, wire brushed & removed Sika from roughly 500 screws, ring pulls, hinges, nuts, bolts & washers! Full 4 coats of primer to go on maybe Thursday if sanding completed. Currently looking for accomodation with spa bath & massage! Garry & Rod helped me remove stickers & finish sanding on my paddle board, with awesome Jess spraying primer & topcoat with our paint...colour me happy!

Day 20 in shed & much has been done, the shed has been closed up for spraying, we are now fully cocooned, the mast has been fully sanded, etch primed, undercoated & bogged. All masking has been checked or renewed. The windows & deck have been sanded, faired & primed ready for high build spray possibly Wednesday. Very long days, very tiring, and spiders have taken up residence everywhere!

Day 16 in wonderland! One really should keep empty rolls of tape, heaven knows how many have been used. I've not mentioned as yet the carnage inside, every internal side of windows had to be taped, corflute cut & more tape, then more tape to stop leaking area's of fibreglass coming inside, thankfully only a couple of blow outs there. True to his word Jess & Horst have worked like slaves (hard work keeping up with them, trying to replace tape on inside as Horst is sanding on outside)! The spray bog has gone on today & get's to sit for 2 days for more sanding with Friday being priming day. Garry has been pulled in many directions on mast, then upstairs to mask (up & down we go between jobs, depending on priority). Pressure on now to get mast finished & garnet blasted by end of tomorrow for priming, with all stainless sparkling now on mast after Drifter with toothbrush & masked up! Horst actually met up with Double Bubble in Maryborough & spoke at length with previous owners Bob & Maureen!
Incredible! What a huge

Have retired once again under the boat, another day done as we approach our 3rd week in Coomera & 2nd week on the slip! Much has been done, SO MUCH, Col's onto the rigging, all good there, tick! Everything removed, bar part anchor winch (part section had to be for spraying access, & huge kudos to my husband, poor love, upside down, in full sun in overalls trying to remove final screw) track stays on, cars still to be taken off however! Windows have been glassed & bogged, tomorrow big day, torture board's for Jess & Horst, better them than us! I've nearly finished sanding 2 fwd lazerettes & 7 hatches, (gotta love hand sanding)!!! Teak fore deck sanded. Lots to do still with spray bog going on Wednesday apparently, 8 months today since we left, & yes we are still "Living the Dream"! Have awesome brother who is flying in from Perth tomorrow to lend a hand, so huge kudo's to Garry too!

Week 1 in shed, much accomplished. Rods mate Glen kindly came to offer a hand, bringing milk & lunch, removed 32 steps from mast (96 rivets) & cleaned up bases of push/pullpits & staunchions, they just need a polish up now, so tick, & much thanks. Deck & windows ready for bog. All halyards removed & washed, chain locker emptied & out of the way for spraying.

Well day 4 has ended with deck chairs & cold ale under the boat. Jess & Horst worked flat out from 7am (we started @ 6) until 2.30pm with all but windscreens removed. Windows sanded back to trim, fibreglass has been ground out, 529 wall plugs removed (there in lies the problem, little star spread capillaries starting to travel, but that was the way it was done 25 years ago. All holes glassed, peel ply on & ready for bog (the green one). Worst of the work has now been completed all hatches sealed off! Have 4 fans running & our A/C's are salt water cooled, plan on bringing the bath out shortly with lovely G& T!

Day 3 of hell, ha! Who's idea was this? Have removed all lower windows & nearly finished removing all the sika, 4 to go. Masked everything up including cockpit (boxed in) most winches etc, masked. Weird flying bugs everywhere. Just stopped work outside, time for shower, heat up pie for tea, then clean up disaster inside until midnight again, 12 hour days at work have got nothing on being on a slip!

Day 2, have all pushpits, pullpits, staunchions & bollards removed. No lifeline rails! 4 hatches removed, 2 to go, 2 solar panels removed and what feels like to my fingers a zillion tubes of sika scrapped off. Top row of windows bar 2 taped up for sanding on sides. All but top of coach house non skid sanded, thanks Jess & Horst. Have had my very first drive of a buggy Jess let us borrow & delivered cockpit cushions for recovering after drawing up & calculating metrage. Skipper coping under duress of painful dodgy foot since 10am.
Sounds like work is

9.30 kick off this morning, into the slip pen ready for the travel lift to take Double Bubble up out of the water & into the shed (1st time in one), not fighting the elements for the next 6-8 weeks, in the wet season! All went super well (gave the slip guys cake before they lifted us - got great pressure wash, with clean shoes, awesome, less sanding)! Have removed 542 screws & 26 bolts from our windows this afternoon, these being replaced with new glazed ones, 31 in all, stay tuned on that one! Replacing the polycarb in the hatches also, so uniform in colour & reaching 22 yrs ish! Now off to remove all lifelines, push & pullpits - woo hoo! Must say huge Thank you to Michelle for her help & loan of tarp, horses & super cute (girlie) cordless drill not to mention her fab curry & prawns xx

After lots of stress, humidity & winds this morning Col & Jess arrived from QuinRig & started the process of de-rigging Double Bubble with skipper. Naturally winds started to increase as the time got closer for the crane to arrive, it settled down just in time for us to nip over into the slip pen for de-masting with the help of Jessie from All Sea Management, whip out the mast, rig, & furler with the crane & get back to our pen just as the rain began to fall, ye ha! Step 1 complete.

Making progress dismantling the boat, sails removed, wiring disconnected, crane booked for 4pm Monday for mast/rig removal (please no wind)! Onto hard Tuesday 9.30 & into the shed. Had lovely catch up bbq with Andrew & Trish off Sengo last night prior to their departure today. Then Glen (the cook who worked w/ Rod on the Accolade) & his wife Leonie arrived for a visit & we had a very nice lunch in "The Galley" here at the boatworks before more dismantling this afternoon.

We have arrived at "The Boatworks" on the Coomera River which will now be our home, pretty much until Christmas! We have decided to go ahead with the replacement of our windows which are currently bolted in, altering the style & reducing the number by half to 14. Not content with that alone we may as well paint the deck and lets not forget the obligatory antifoul job too, oh & did I mention the rig being dropped & mast coming out, may as well paint that too argh! At least as members of "The Shaggers Club" we get 10% discount, bonus!

Up anchored early with the tide to take us down further south searching for northerly anchorages, which were either taken or non-existent! Went for a wander up the Coomera River, quite pretty, still looking for a spot, past Sanctuary Cove with their mega boats & wound up at The Boatworks. Its their..."Christmas Party" this afternoon so can't meet up with tradies so will return on Monday for quotes to replace all our windows! Now anchored off Tulleen Island.

We received a surprise guest this morning onboard, who then followed us as we went ashore for a look around & a stroll along the beach. We met up with a couple who, it turned out, 33 years ago lived in the 2 storey units opposite our berth in Adelaide! We have now moved further down the Broadwater to the Gold Coast and anchored above Roes Kemp on Sth Stradbroke Island for the night leaving the continual "Blow flies" I now call Jetski's at Tipplers.

We have just cruised down the main channel of Moreton Bay into the Gold Coast Broadway and anchored at Tipplers Resort, lovely day, lovely spot! With the upcoming Vodaphone 600 Car race on this weekend, it will be interesting to see how many arrive here!
Looks lovely Kath. Nice spot

With most jobs completed on the boat and a bush turkey proofed garden at Michelle's we have finally escaped the marina and returned to anchor at Raby Bay for the upcoming storm. The loudest thunder and threatening skies surround us, with drizzle just commencing, we will probably hang here for the next few days.
Very very windy here today,
YAY! Good old Raby Bay ????

Day 2 on slip. All hatches, staunchions, pushpits, pullpits, bollards removed. Hatches & half the windows taped up inside, with all pic frames, bottles, curio's etc on ledges, boxed up. 2 only solars panels removed, thankfully 3 can stay. Almost all non-skid sanded, just cabin top to go,thank you Jess & Horst. December 17 here we come (my ever so hopeful departure date from shed). Did I mention my 1st drive in a buggy to deliver cushions for recovering ( after drawing up & calculating qty needed w/ design flowing correctly. We have achieved a great deal today even w/ skippers blown blood vessel in foot @ 10am this morning!

Just an update, since we planned on getting a few jobs done on the boat once we arrived at Brisbane, a boom bag made for our rolling furler, & few other jobs done by Quinrig (Rods mate from Adelaide). We got a very good deal on a monthly rate in the marina here giving us an opportunity to potter, shop & garden at my friends, with 2 weeks to go before we get back out there!

With the threat of severe thunderstorms, lightning & hail storms coming over the next few days & visitors changing plans we decided at 9am to come in to Newport Marina today, so off we went into the northerlies which ended up being 30 knots, tides against us, hideous trip doing barely 3kn(so not happy, extremely stressful). Finally arrived in marina and safely tied up with the help of locals (thanks Mandy for that). So low and behold with drinks in our hands we look around and we have moored directly in front of another boat we know from Adelaide who left 7 years ago, Gypsy Lover!

We have just moved over to Horsehoe Bay, Peel Island, tucked in from expected Northerly for the next couple of days, away from the maddening weekenders and their jet ski's!
Hiya! Just logged in here for

Have left Macleay Island and gone back to Raby Bay this morning for another change in wind direction this afternoon. Bit to windy to venture off into town in the dinghy at present, and with Gale warning on for tomorrow, will just hang on anchor for the duration of the storm & catch up on work & continue with horrid flag.
Hello to Raby, and to you two

We woke up yesterday to a complete fog out, and then a jet ferry who lost his way & ended up doing a 360 right in front of us, travelling outside of his track, passing by an hour later inside of 5mtr (commuters freaking, taking happy snaps)! Then up half the night with boat spinning on anchor we decided to move around today to Perpulpa Bay, Macleay Island, tucked in from a South westerly for the next few days.

Well having left Blakesley Anchorage this morning we aimed for Silver Sands for overnight anchorage & upcoming NW. Having anchored there, tide would have made it uncomfortable in expected 30kn winds tomorrow, so we continued downstream & ended up effectively circumnavigating our very first island (hysterical) took all day and have ended up anchored between Lamb Island & Karragarra Island just on sunset!

Didn't much like Deanbilla, bad vibes so we haved moved downstream to Blakesleys Anchorage, near Canalpin, Nth Straddie, much nicer, off in the dinghy to explore.

We left RQ Yacht Suadron yesterday to Raby Bay for the night to collect a book of maps this morning and have now moved over to Deanbilla Bay on North Stradbroke Island for a bit of a look about, wander on beach etc.

We have parted ways with "the Tramps" & will meet up at the end of October. The time has finally come for new batteries (the others lasting 11 1/2 years - gotta be happy with that). So we have gone into the Royal Queensland Yacht with 597 berths, for 1 week (having successfully lassoing marina) to change over & get a few jobs done.

Have picked up our visitors at Raby bay, welcome Auntie Eva & Peter and cruised back to Peel Island for the evening with the "Tramps" and had a lovely afternoon/ evening together away from the wind and will return back to Raby for drop off this afternoon then back here away from next blow. Expected top of 27 degrees!
And a great time was had by

Still anchored in Raby Bay, as is close to Cleveland, shops & visitors. We had a dinghy come up to us the other day, calling out, "G'day Kath", turns out to be a friend from Nth Haven Marina who took of sailing 9 yrs ago, had a great catch up on local knowledge. Have been into town for supplies & ride out the blow, then had another visitor who braved the sea (quite blowy) to come bringing new charts & spend the night, with upcoming trip to "Bunnings" today yeah!

We have up anchored with Alcatraz and moved over to Raby Bay anchorage to go into town (Cleveland, 29km from Brisbane). Tramp II have gone over to Macleay Island, all protected from upcoming expected Southerly of 30 knots this afternoon.

Finally anchored at 26.5hr's later (approx 4.5hr trip up "The Broadwater" after arriving at Gold Coast) all a bit weary especially after birthday event the previous day. We have come up stream to meet up with Dave & Sue from Alcatraz & tuck up away from northerly until tomorrow. Quick drinks on Tramp II for Ali's birthday & early to bed.

Hi Auntie, well woo hoo, we've just hit the 27th parallel, offshore of the Gold Coast, Queensland, yeah! Been stooging at 3kn for last 2hrs waiting for daylight & an ingoing tide into The Broadwater to an as yet undetermined anchorage along with Tramp II (Birthday girl Ali) & "Enough". We are just a short distance (4hr) away from "Alcatraz, yeah!

We have had a smooth and sunny motor/sail up the coast from Iluka, with whales and dolphins about. Passed Balina as the sun set and have just now passed Cape Byron the eastern most point of Australia under a clear moonlit sky, all is good!

We have crossed the bar with the Tramps and are now on our way, Queensland here we come!

Came back to Maclean for the night & stores, then back to Iluka, up early for the markets over at Yamba & a day wandering the town. Met up with the American couple from "Enough" for drinks on Tramp II. Lots of prepping (75 handmade rum balls) for birthday boy yesterday and Bbq onboard w/ Tramps, Ke Sera & Enough and had a lovely afternoon/evening soiree. Readying ourselves now for departure to Gold Coast 20hr overnight sail!

Travelled upstream to Brushgrove, free mooring, with Tramp II rafted alongside us. Dinghy trip over to the Bushy hotel for tea, very nice. Attempted to go on up to Ulmara (still blowing easy 30-40kn), too hard to moor in that so back to Bushy then caught bus in the next day for a visit to the galleries & op shops, back in time to watch The Power win, woo hoo!

Didn't get under Harwood bridge had to wait for opening finally at 6.15, (really eerie screeching) then lassoed up to the wharf in the dark (no more jumping off for this girl) with Tramps rafting up for overnight stay. Carried on up to Maclean (the scottish town) with tartans on the lamp posts. Moored up behind Liberty 2 and joined them for drinks and a very pleasant evening. Met lots of lovely people on the marina before departure to Brushgrove for the night, it sure is pretty along here.

Travelled upstream to Harwood waiting for 5.00pm bridge opening under the Pacific Highway. Absolutely stunning day.

Departed Coffs Harbour with Tramp II 11.30pm for night sail for flood tide entry across the bar into Yamba/Iluka eta 11am. Spent most of my time resting foot for this "leg", managed a hobble down for lovely hamburger & ordered "fender step", supposedly will make life easier tying up vessel in the future! Turns out that another chap broke his actual foot at Coffs whilst we were there, so a lot longer recovery for him.

Arrived 1.30pm yesterday into Coffs Harbour Marina after losing wind along the way. Have great photos coming into entrance, thanks Renae! Went for a sixer jumping onto marina tying up, few injuries. A couple of 30kn days ahead of us now so will stay in here. Got a lift to the hospital by Craig from the marina & it's official 1 broken toe!! Need to learn how to lasso low slung cleats or ask marina office for assistance!!

With winds & seas as they were yesterday we decided to sail (along with the Tramps) straight through to Coffs Harbour, keeping close to the shore, and have just another 25nm to go. It was a clear starry night with minimal swell & 10kn of breeze making for a lovely sail averaging 6kn.
Saw you go into Coffs on the

We have departed Port Stephens for Forster/Tuncurry eta 1600hrs. Albatross, whales & sharks abound, sun is shining with pleasant seas!

Having left Fame Cove we returned to Nelson Bay for 2 nights and we have been reunited with Tramp II & now moved around to Shoal Bay for departure tomorrow.

Have finally left marina ($500 later $200 for fuel), just too windy to get out of marina! We have had a lovely spring clean whilst there with 6 loads of washing, sun shining, cleaning & servicing all, just stupid cold wind when off the boat, so now back at Fame Cove for 2 nights, for hopeful departure Wednesday (Thursday to Forster/Tuncurry)! Anchoring is verbotten in Port Stephens due to seagrass destruction so only 5 courtesy moorings all at Fame Cove. Back to making my flags!
eye guys weather not being
Feel your frustration :)

We have been stuck in Fame Cove for the last 8 days, weather is just gale force up & down the coast & looks like another week of it still. We have had white caps & 40kn winds in the cove for most of the time, using up our supplies so skipper has braved the seas & brought Bubble over to Corlette - Anchorage Marina for $100 overnight stay to get supplies. Very tight maneuvering in here with 20kn pushing us back as we tryed getting into pen, thankfully we had Dane from the marina help us tie up.
Still tucked in at Fame Cove, weather all over the place, completely fogged in yesterday morning & then beautiful 26 deg all day. Today, drizzle as we went back into Nelson Bay to drop Michelle off after a sail up the coast & lovely 11 day visit. Alcatraz have departed, with as yet unknown destination.
Yes well I really did think

Caught up with Alcatraz for a bit last night, then early night. Off to laundromat this morning, then moved boat around to Corlette to the Shell museum, which was very nice. Have just picked up 2 moorings at Fame Cove, have the place all to ourselves (with Alcatraz) over to theirs for joint dinner.

Just turned off Point Stephens heading into Port Stephens. Whales, whales & more whales. Skipper was showing signs of stress & then came 2 very loud, low flying & very fast jets giving us a buzz. Several hours later they came around again, excellent! Alcatraz is still here & have saved us a spot in Little Nelson Bay, bravo!
We are finally getting to depart Lake Macquarie for Port Stephens after 2 weeks of strong wind warnings, bar crossing/channel warnings & then stupid northerlies which of course put's it straight on the nose!!! So here we sit at the Swansea bridge awaiting 9am opening, expected eta Pt Stephens 1700hrs.
We moved from Valentines over to Bennetts Park this morning. We had a lovely lunch at the Bowling Club yesterday & a stooge on up the creek at the back. These guys all have their own varying ideas of boat ramps come "launch pad's" in their backyards. Lovely sunny day today with a green lawn area where the skipper finally got to play with the drone again (about 3rd time since purchased), not quite ready for lift off whilst at sea! Should also mention our dolphin was back playing at midnight & has turned again this afternoon as well, had a field day yesterday, full belly flops for ages, too cute.
Looking Good Guys, as you can

Looks STRESSED??? welll
Yesterday we had a special arrival with my friend Michelle flying in from Brissy to Newcastle and then she "Ubered on down" to Wangi Wangi RSL for dinghy collection on a very rickety (closed) jetty! It was all champagne & sunsets, then Rod got news that his good mate Horris had passed away, it appears a sudden heart attack, no warning. Take every opportunity to live life, don't waste a moment!
You can only stay on courtesy moorings for 24hr's at a time so having stayed 2 nights at Croudace we have moved back to Pulbah Island, being the weekend most other moorings taken! Weather is just awful, windy, cold, wet & miserable so stuck in the Lake for another few days before we can move on up to Port Stephens.
Spent the day, re-fuelling, 120ltr's, water & stores, 3 trips! Coles so much cheaper than horrid IGA's we've had to buy from in the past. Now moved over to Croudace Bay avoiding SW blow tonight.
We have moved from Pulbah Island over to Rathmines to collect our mail. We were escorted by the friendliest dolphin who upon dropping the anchor decided he had his very own scratching pole by way of the anchor chain. He was having a great time pulling on the chain, rolling over & under, even tryed his hand (or should I say his back) on the dinghy straight under us, very interactive!! We have now tied up at Toronto Marina, with shops, fuel & gas having got the latter already, & skipper taking me out for tea, woo hoo!
Moved over to Pulbah Island, lovely secluded bay in the lake. Catching bream & silver whiting, none keepers, still trying for another big flathead, skipper just lost the lot, hook & all! Been for a stooge in dinghy & walk on beach, looks like Chilli Con Carne for tea!
We have moved from Wangi Wangi, we we're going to Belmont for some shopping but blowing 30kn to hard to get alongside marina, so moved on over to Rathmines (were apparently dad did his RAAF Communications course) & have anchored just before it started raining, perfect timing.

Very sloppy getting to our next left turn in the direction of the sun, nasty black clouds heading into the river.
Departing Hawkesbury River for Lake Macquarie eta 1400hrs will meet up again with Alcatraz at sea. Tramps arrived late yesterday and will hang here for a bit more Sol fest! Amazing to have contact from people recognising Double Bubble (Dutch). Never heard back from Sherjk the other builder which was a shame.
Woke up to 7 deg this morning with no sunshine, good thing about a movable home, start the engines and get out to where the sun is shining (ha) so on the move early down to Smiths Creek. Good thing too as a runabout came alongside asking if she was once called Double Dutch, which she was, it was only the Grandson of Hugo & Ricki one of the couples who built her. He remembered following the boat on the truck with police escort down to where she was launched, amazing!
Gday

Just leaving Palm Beach having had Garry picked up in motor launch for his awesome sea flight. Sun is disappearing and dark clouds are looming overhead, so here's hoping he has a safe flight back to Sydney. Heading around to Palm Beach where Garry is departing via Seaplane to Sydney for a few days touring. We have been tucked in some very scenic little bays.
Met up with Alcatraz for fun night yesterday onboard the Bubble & bacon & eggs onboard there's this morning. Currently in Cowan Creek inside of Hawkesbury River, reception is very spasmodic. Our friend & previous owners daughter (Ricki) received an email from her friend, with a picture of Double Bubble taken in America Bay on Sunday seems they remembered her parents boat, - it's a small world after all (sing it)!

We have now picked up a mooring at "The Spit" were I have always wanted to live. So I have now baked a cake in my home here with "The Spit" as my address! Can tick that off the list ha! Had a refill of fuel, water, shopping, several loads of washing & general clean up whilst at Cronulla marina. Had a fun night with the "Tramps" for Sol's birthday yesterday and are now off to Port Jackson, Sydney harbour!! Eta 1300hrs WOO HO!
Arrived safely at Cronulla marina, end berth for 2 nights. Time for collecting of stores etc. Lovely to have sun & warmth!
Tucked in at Sth West Arm, in a lovely protected bay, like a mini Refuge Cove. Had a lovely day of sunshine getting here yesterday, with lots of boats on the water. Went off in the sun this morning in the tender to do a spot of fishing up the creek, half an hour later the clouds came over, temperature fell & the rain started, so the fish are safe today.
Is that part of Botany Bay?
On the move from Jibbon Beach to Bundeena with their little ferry that goes to Cronulla. Boys off in tender to outragously expensive IGA for supplies, then move over to wait out a nthly front to Sth West Arm, Port Hacking hoping we can fit under cables. Lovely day, warm & sunny finally in shorts. Some amazing properties along waters edge & plenty of speeding boats. Skipper found a house for us, very flash. Picked up 2 more lots of weed around props, both sides, getting to be a royal pain. Saw a few whales splashing about to far for any decent photo's & had a happy pod of dolphins escort us into the bay.
Departed Bermagui bound for Batemans Bay eta appro 1500hr. Spent yesterday with domestics. All being well we will spend tonight at Batemans Bay and move on tomorrow to Jervis Bay.
Arrived safely in Bermagui, tied up on wharf with much appreciated assistance from Water Police. Saw a number of small whales jumping about enroute and skipper spotted a shark right beside us. Have tied up right out the front of the...wait for it " Har Bar", how clever!

Have had another couple of lovely days, sunny & dare I say it "warm". Had great anniversary day yesterday where Alice worked, Garry went kite flying & exploring in "Ralph", their tender. Rod went fishing with Sol in "Little Bit" ours, and I had a great time yelling on my own at the footy! Go the Power....geez! All ended back on Double Bubble for another great night (poor liver)! Departing 7am for Bermagui tomorrow, warmer weather still to come (colour me happy)!

Off "in a cab" ( no more climbing hill's for these knees) to hairdresser & walk back, whilst Garry & the "the Tramps" go to Whale museum to see Old Tom & skipper sorts boat ( read plays with flight simulator)! Move boats off wharf and anchor at Boyd town, get settled & dinghy ride to Seahorse hotel on the beach for tea. Have the best oysters ever here & enjoy a lovely meal in the warmth until you get to go back in dinghy (read - wade in really cold water)
Congrats guys and hoping you

Entered into East Boyd Bay in the dark, a bit of concentrated night navigation trying to pick which lights are which, but once leads were sorted the skipper skilfully had Bubble safely anchored after 38hr sail. We arrived with last 4 beers & a bottle of champagne, so 2 congratulatory drinks each, then sleep. Woke up to a lovely morning, in a tranquil bay before moving boat around to the northern wharf where Tramp II rafted up to Double Bubble. Proceed into town up "yet another hill" with rubbish & washing, have lovely brunch whilst machines on, suss out shops & re-stock vessel, catch cab direct to our front gate on wharf, hooray! It's been 8 weeks today since we left North Haven SA & I swear we have had like 5 days of full sun in all that time (don't mention the equinox please), check out the sky as we left The Prom yesterday! Our voyage across Bass Strait commenced with relatively calm sea's albeit a bit foggy as Mother nature did her thing culminating in a beautiful sunset. We sailed between some 18 lit oil & gas rigs throughout the night, speed 6kn and approximately 25nm out from Lakes Entrance, we watch the glow as they burn off their spoils. As we approached Point Hicks this morning we saw an equally beautiful sunrise.
We loved night passages
Just passed Seal Islands, Bass Strait and thought I would share a few more pics of our time in the Cove. Amused myself whilst there by making a pair of "Happy pants" for Alice who did a lovely painting of Double Bubble in return. Had a great night aboard DB, and impromptu guitar playing sing along, great fun night, topped off with whiskey and a "wee dram or two! The skipper made a wooden plaque he burnt Double Bubbles name into and added it to the "Vessel Board" (a place set up where the cruising boats place a name plate of some description) Tramp II going for a wooden spoon with her name etched in. Garry carved a name plate for Keiths urn to remain in the Prom with the other name plates. As we continue our voyage through the Tasman Sea we will get to pass all the oil rigs that will be lighting up the sky tonight, Bream will be the 1st at approx 9pm.
And where off, along with Tramp II, out of the "no reception zone" but very beautiful Refuge Cove bound for Eden, NSW, our last "left turn" 220nm and a 48hr sail away, eta 8am Friday. It is a beautiful anchorage, away from the world, the rocks full of colour, the sand thick and squishy! You have to climb up to Telecom rock and maybe get a signal (not Optus) were upon we made new friends with Rod & Judy from Tringriz and met up later on their boat for sundowners along with Tramp II alternating boats & nights, where lots of fun was had by all. They were exceptionally generous upon their departure bestowing us with treats, coffee for Trampi, crackers, eggs, lime, lollies etc as they headed home Sunday to Lakes Entrance.

Prior to our departure our friend Alf asked if we could forefil his mates dying wish to have his ashes scattered between Wilson's Prom & Rodondo Island. With our initial onset of drama's upon leaving Adelaide we couldn't help but think that maybe he had a hand in them, but as we approach the southern most tip of Australia, we feel his peace. So it is that we now, in the early hours of the morning, raise our whiskey glasses & bid adieu to Keith Alexander Morrison, aged 52, Alf's friend and fulfil this wish. 39:11.000E 146:25.000S

Departed Cleeland, enroute to "The Prom"

Finally the day has arrived with the weather looking somewhat hopeful for us to make ready our departure at 2000hrs from Cleeland Bight and head 74nm to Refuge Cove, Wilsons Prom, eta 1000hrs Monday. We've been here 13 days but it has been fun, despite the weather (Cranium who knew)! Tramp II will be travelling with us and hopefully we will meet up again with Alcatraz who left 3 days ago.

All three boat crews came together onboard Double Bubble for sundowners, which kind of grew legs from there. First started with 1 pedicure for Sharne and another 5 to follow. When thoughts of food sprung to mind so did the word pizza with Sharne co-ercing her son & girlfriend to drive 40 minutes with pizza's for all, well done! Someone had contacted the "yit" website when he saw our boat was on the site and forwarded through a couple of shots he had taken from the beach in the morning, so a big "thank you" to Dennis, awesome shots, cheers. Had great yoga session on the beach this morning with the lovely Sue who is an excellent teacher.

Have had our friends from Alcatraz join us here at Cleeland Bight and now waiting for appropriate seas to be able to get around Wilsons Prom to enter into Refuge Cove (14hrs away) currently looking like Sunday for departure. Have awesome Chocolate factory here (40min walk), Dame Edna made out of tiny little choc's!

Rocking & rolling on mooring, 40knot bullets and pretty swelly. Biding our time waiting for this front to go through, wind generator getting a full on workout. Garry's been amusing himself with the rope we retrieved from the cray pot we had wrapped around our prop & turning it into a hammock, not quite happy with it yet so undone again now & Version 5 commences!
You're almost round the
Hanging on a Vic Parks mooring in the bay on Anzac day, waiting for the next front to pass apparently 100mtr from Anzacs beach (missed that), will go over & inspect later. Guys got rather wet in the dinghy on their 2 mile jaunt across the bay yesterday to fill some jerry cans for a top up of our tanks, I couldn't take up valuable space in dinghy so had to stay behind, safe & warm!!!
Well managed, Kath!

Arrived safely after 28hr overnighter at Cleeland Bight, Phillip Island. Caught more seaweed enroute, efficiently displaced by skipper & crew & again, coming into Cape Woolamai. Pretty night sail through Bass Strait with diamonds on the water & sparkles in the sky until moon broke through. A rather daunting sunrise seriously looked like threatening rain, but all good.

Just passing Apollo Bay (& big ship), all good so far.

Caught 2 lots of seaweed, 1 on each prop after 20 deg detour for survey ship!

Preparing for departure to Cleeland Bight, with Tramp II waiting for sunrise & tide to change. Here's hoping we have calm winds & smooth sea's around Cape Otway & no craypots or kelp wrapped around props! Eta 1500hrs tomorrow.

Waiting for todays front to go through and head off on it's tail in the morning. We have decided to go straight through to Cleeland Bight, Phillip Island and not go into Apollo Bay as there is a another nasty front coming behind us & we could end up stuck in there for weeks. We have spent our time in town at the shops, the markets & a wander down to the beach. 30 degrees here yesterday & the place sure fills up. Garry went on a day trip with our friends off Tramp II to the Tower Hill Volcano & saw an abundance of wild life. We are tied up to the wharf here right beside the boat ramp & fish cleaning tables (& a gazillion fly's) with the majority of our time being taken up with the antics of 1 very cranky bull seal who hangs out here for fish scraps, he has already taken a chunk out of a womens leg last week & we had to call the rangers in to stop the crowds of people harassing the poor thing.

Sounds like it was a good run

Departed Portland for Port Fairy, eta was 1400, someone just turned off the wind!!!Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Tab A on the Telstra Mobile Network

Portland is quite a lovely town, no Bunnings but awesome store that sells all sorts of "stuff" excellent. No matter were we go Rod always meets someone he knows & bumped into his cousin, 3 times, 3 different places over a couple of days, amazing. Our friend Maureen (previous owner) had one of her Women welcome women worldWide group come down to meet us & was kind enough to take us out for a drive to Cape Bridgewater to see the Petrified Forest, blowholes etc & a had a humongous hamburger for lunch & a drive around town, very nice. Have 4 boats from North Haven here, 2 of which were on the slip in Adelaide with us at the same time, Golden Cowrie & Tramp II (with whom we had a most enjoyable evening, albeit late) and Pappion II who is berthed here for next 12 months. Off into town today for a few supplies had lunch & then Garry & I went off for a walk to the Botanic Gardens where they have 181 Dahlia varieties in bloom, very pretty (had to go there as we have a friend called Dalia, cheers).

Arrived safely in Portland Marina 5pm after 30hr haul, tired and super ready for drinks, feed & showers, flopped in front of telly where the guys promptly fell asleep. Big sleep in this morning. Had alternator collected for testing then gave the girl a big bubble bath and general tidy up. Off to the Richmond Henty for tea tonight and pool tournament continuation. Just got excited about possible trip to Bunnings but alas there's not one here, colour me sad!

Heading smack on 090E to Cape Nelson, as we motor past the Wind turbines (there's an irony) as there's been barely a breath of wind since Robe & what there has been, is.....you guessed it, on the nose! Lucky if we get into Portland Marina by 5pm at this rate, distance travelled this run approx 145nm.
Great reading all about your

A 15kn nthly was predicted, however despite several course changes throughout the night the wind has stayed on the nose all the way! We are now well past Port Macdonnell & Mt Gambier and have crossed the border into Victoria. Cups of tea & hot cross buns for breakfast, yeah! Our crew has complimented us on his accomodation & has stated he would much prefer a coffee machine rather than the bread machine in his cabin ( had to wait for bread to finish before we unplugged from marina prior to departure, too hot to put away, hence his cabin floor!

Just coming up to WPT5 waypoint between Cape Banks & Cape Northumberland SA to change course to heading 115 as several large (read 285mtr)ships are approaching. Counting flashes on lighthouses and confirming whereabouts on chart with Lat & Long checks hourly.

Just departed Robe enroute to Portland, eta approx 12pm tomorrow. Quite swelly leaving entrance and getting around reefs, all whilst trying to spot craypots. Robe is a lovely tidy town with neat marina, adjustable cleats & hose runs. Our new friends on "Time Out" have departed behind us enroute back to Adelaide & we wish them well.

Waiting for fronts to pass prior to our departure for Portland. Gave up on alternator repair for now & put back old one. Had a fun evening on Friday with Peter and Caroline from "Time Out" who are waiting on the same fronts to pass..Garry managed to buy a kite after his homemade one crashed an died so spent Sat arvo flying kite with some locals, who promptly went and bought their own kite. Had a few walks into town, dodging rain squalls, ended up at the Caledonian for lunch yesterday and "Pool tournament" at Robe hotel, back to DB for card comps, really not sure who wins these things as no scoring involved! All good fun.😊

Enjoying Robe Marina, had our friends on Alcatraz join us for 2 days before they departed today for Portland. We have had a diode going dodgy in the port Alternator, and had to freight a new one in, better to be safe than sorry! Lucky I have a Marine Engineer husband & Electrician brother to render any repairs! Still having an issue with our track appearing correctly on this site but I'm sure it will be sorted soon. Have Mike here from Robe council who is incredibly helpful and given us a few lifts into town.
Great seeing and hearing

Quite a nice marina, with adjustable cleats & channels for hoses, very tidy town too. Our new friends on "Time Out" are commencing their run back to Adelaide just behind us, we wish them well!

Arrived safely into Robe marina after 27 hrs non stop sail, shame that you can't say, "stop the bus, I want to get off" (so to speak) when the sea's are dodgy, read as blah!!! All over the shop, sail up, sail down, 5-6mtr sea's at time's luckily not to high a winds between 15kn to 3okn then down to 3kn's on the nose w/ super sloppy sea's. On a brighter note the dawn brought in a lovely sunrise with albatross greeting us into the new day. Relatively reasonable for the rest of the trip with much plotting and verification. Pizza & beer's, showers and sleep to follow. Still not quite worked out getting tracking right, should show Robe!

Departed American River, thanks to Katie for trip into Kingscote and great photo xx
your welcome. Safe journey.

Preparing for departure shortly (hooray), destination Robe eta approx 10am tomorrow.

Had a couple of dinghy rides into "town" & a bit of a walk around. Just biding our time with maintenance & card tournament.
Good luck guys, looks like we

Waiting for this next front to go through!. Beautiful clear 22 deg yesterday, watched crabs & stingrays swimming about, polished stainless, whilst guys get new mobiles up to date & Iridium to work. Cooked up pizza's & soup to freeze for "meals underway' today whilst getting thrown about.

Collection of replacement wind gear has finally fixed this issue, we now have wind info, hurrah! Awesome shot taken from mast head. Also new mobile phone collected from the big smoke as Rod's S7 died, so an expensive day out. We have now missed our weather window to proceed onto Robe and are now waiting again for next window. Used the time to make fresh water (500 litres) and replenish stocks (read more beer)!
Awesome mast shot indeed!!
Glad to hear all ' ship shape

As high northerly winds were predicted we have entered into American River on the 20/3/19 and have remained here awaiting an Airbag with a new battery which of course, once received, was not the problem (naturally not long out of warranty). So sending off brother for whole new unit via ferry and bus to Adelaide and hopefully get this cruising show on the road so to speak!

We departed Second Valley on the 18/3/19 at 8.15am for Eastern Cove, Kangaroo Island, (a typically horrid trip across) arriving at 12.30pm Rocky Point, KI. We anchored there for 2 nights whilst trying to work out issues with wind indicator eventually sending brother dear up the mast for removal and inspection. At Anchor, American River
We cant believe that gorgeous

We departed from Adelaide at midnight 16/3/19 winds ranged from 3kn - 30kn throughout the entire evening depending on when we put the sails up or not, as is the way. Somewhere in the middle of the high seas the 2 yr 5mth old TickTack Wind indicator MN100-2 decided to die so we could only estimate wind speed/direction. We arrived at 8.45am into Second Valley, and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with our friends Dave & Sue on their Catamaran - Alcatraz.

Initially named "Double Dutch" when she was built in Sydney by Hugo & Sjirk in 1998. Then re-named "Double Bubble" by the previous loving owners Bob & Maureen until her sale to us in 2008. She has been lovingly upgraded and maintained and is finally ready for her cruising life.
Test drive with new GoPro at North Haven prior to midnight departure.

Had a lovely lunch with "The Tramps" at the Eco Resort, topped off with a Pina Colada. We readied the boat, plotted our course to Cape Upstart & 2 hours into the trip this morning with wind blowing upwards of 20kn & a big bull whale breaching just in front of us, we decided to head into Bowen Marina instead. We were hoping to get up to Magnetic Island in the next 2 days ahead of the coming weeks 30kn blow, so we will tuck in here & have a bit of time out.

Yesterday saw the return of the Boatworks tradies & opening of the Galley for food & ice from Christmas break, much has been achieved. The hull has been sanded & wet rubbed ready for a few fills, primer & prep coat for different (warm water climate) antifoul. Masking up of the boat has nearly been completed, working out the rounds & lay of non skid paint is time consuming & complicated. Lifelines are tied on & ferrules covered with amalgamating tape. The dolphin striker timbers are now coated in DWD as is the repairs to winch & block bases( remove masking tape, sometimes the coatings come off too!
