Asked Maritime what time Customs shuts down for the day so he must be keen to get in!. Thanks Maritime radio for the position, at 11.12am today
Contact with Maritime Radio was a bit broken. This report received by them at 12 19pm today. Propagation is not easy in the middle of the day. Better to call morning or evening.
Amazing speeds on and off last night. Even a peak of 11! GHRadio is away from the radio until Tuesday so no reports . I will check with Maritime Radio to get any position he has during this time.
all well. Good signal
Sounds like HiC's wants some wind but hopefully this time tomorrow.
departing Isle of Pines for NZ today - single handing
heading to Noumea to check out and will leave from Isle of Pines Monday with the flotilla
in Muscat Cove and will be there about a week before heading to savisavu
Great weather for landfall. jack will anchor at Momi Bay tonight as will get in late. Onwards tomorrow. GHRadio have had confirmation from Fiji Customs so no problems there with late arrival. Happy landfall Jack.
eta late sat
jack sounded alert after a good snooze in the light conditions . Woke up to the pleasant wind so is sailing.
great sailing yesterday until about 5pm. Off to Fiji with just a small front to contend with.
laid ahull last night. Might need to go into Aneityum to wait out the front.
In the front and the wind will be east quad on the nose for a few days so Jack will think of going into isle of Pines in the southern lagoon of new Caledonia. he is just south of there. This would be a good idea as he would not make much progress towards Fiji with the look of the wx.
Jack sounds really happy as he has been sailing for 36hrs in lovely conditions. All well. Tomorrow he will be due south of New Cal so good progress.
All well. He sounds particularly happy to be sailing again, or at least have the noisy engine off! great radio signal today so good to be able to chat.
He will get ssw10 tomorow so that will help sail. We did a survey of boats going to Fiji and very few got an acknowledgement! One said they got one eventually. One said they got a reply and were wished a good passage! Most got nothing. Jack has got the copy of the email that said they have the form so no problems. It seems you just arrive!
Radio a bit of a problem. GHRadio will contact Fiji concerning his pre arrival. He thinks maybe the wrong email address was used.
will get some breeze soon so will get the sails up then! Currently sitting doing nothing
about 200nm out from Gold Coast. Hoping to go direct to Fiji. Awaiting the arrival of his pre arrival notification from the slow response Fiji folk! GHRadio will hopefully hear from Jack's daughter but otherwise patricia will contact Fiji again.
At Anchor, swing mooring at Waitui Marina Savusavu. Arrived Thursday afternoon after two great sailing days from Nananu i Ra Island in Viti Levu to Nadi Bay in Vanua Levu and then on through the Nasonisoni passage to Savusavu. It was lovely firing along at good speeds between between 6 and 7 knots with 2 reefs in the main and the genoa out full. Nasonisoni was a good experience. Using google maps on my ipad switched to the "satellite" setting is very helpful getting through these narrow passages between the reefs.
Booked a swing mooring at the Savusavu Marina, which is a little further up the creek from Waitui Marina, and will move up there on the 1st of December, 11 days to my departure from from Nadi Airport to Auckland for the Christmas, New Year period.
Anchored at Nanamu i Cake Island in the north of VIti Levu. Changed my mind about continuing up through the Yasawas due to problems I was having with Navionics and the lack of Yasawas charts. Sailed back to Vuda Point, stocked up quickly again and sailed and motored when necessary to my current location via Tavua Bay. Wednesday morning looks ideal in terms of weather to cross to Vanua Levu.
Weather. NE winds 6 knots. 80 % cloud cover Status. Second night back in the Yasawas at Waya after returning yesterday from Vuda Point Marina. Ran out of gas last Thursday so had to head back to the main land to refill and stock up with a few more essentials on the boat. Destination tomorrow is Somosomo Bay. Hoping to see a few other yachts at some point. And looking forward to setting my sails again for Savusavu..
at anchor Mana island and moving to Waya tomorrow morning
Muscat Cove Fiji and will be leaving Wednesday
Makongai, clam and turtle farm, former lepper colony for south pacific.
In makogi and heading for Levuka today and then Suva on Monday and then onto brisbane

Yee Haa great Balls in cow town. break out the pinot noir. IAnchored in Vavauu awaiting Customs
A very frustrated Jack this morning with little progress. he is not running his engine due not much fuel left and it does not give much advantage in the seas. Only 55miles to go so surely we will report arrival tomorrow!
not cheerful now as last night the wind was up to around 35kts so little progress and forecast is still for a beat into vavauu so may not be there today as seas are up
not very pleasant for a dark arrival in Vavaau
220m to Vavauu entrance
eta Vavuu Sat but we reckon earlier!
Jack is really enjoying the challenging experience. he has had some super sailing days and sounds as if he is really enjoying the single handing experience
hdg towards Minerva on way to Vavauu. Wont stop at Minerva
all good but about to get the front then winds to SW
all well after tumultuous start which was an experience! Has had radio problems but a good signal this morning
several calls and no response.
too hard to hear as too close
passing Rangitoto and on his way to Tonga. GHR does not often get a phone update!
