Weather: N20-25, 100% high cloud

Home in Opua on our mooring. Both started work at the middle of last week, a bit of a shock as always but sure we will get used to it. Our mooring is 100 meters off the Quarantine dock so great to check out the new overnight arrivals each morning.

Interesting morning... Coffee in bed reading a book interrupted by bangs on the hull. Ducked out for a look to see a big kingfish milling around. Easy shot with the speargun saw a 13kg kingy on the back deck without even getting wet. Just been down and smoked it at the smokehouse bay yachty facilities. Gave some to 3 boats anchored there and still got 5 meals for ourselves in the freezer, if only fishing were always that easy!

Enjoying the settled weather finally! Busy out here last couple of nights with the long weekend.

Brisk sail around the north end of Barrier yesterday. Back at one of our favourite NZ anchorages. Off for a walk this morning.

Moved to East Bay Kaikoura island yesterday for strong North Westers. Interesting squall came through last night just after dark, all but knocked us down on anchor! Two boats in the cove next to us dragged. Had Steinlager 2 ancored right beside us for our last night at Smokehouse bay, Spirit of New Zealand at the anchorage as well.

Arrived Great Barrier on Saturday. Had a good sail across from Tutukaka. Stayed at Nagle Cove for two nights and moved to Smokehouse Bay today.

Spent last night here after upwind sail from Whangamumu yesterday. Just been for a walk out on the peninsular and about to head off to Tutukaka. more going to windward unfortunately.

Still anchored at Oke Bay. Were going to leave today but a group of 6 dolphins seem to have adopted us so we could not tear ourselves away. Did go down to Whapukapirau Bay spearfishing on Calypso this morning, our new friends came too....Pics taken from bow of yacht, some folks from the beach swam out to play with our buddies.

Had a nice sail yesterday from Whangarei to Oke Bay in the Bay of Islands. Drinks and dinner aboard Bolero with Darren and Wendy from Great Escape Charters last night. Great to see their boat finished.
